[Chevelle-List] Q: Carburator tuning?
My car is running better & better but there's a new "problem" with the carburator (or is it sth else)? It runs smoothly on idle & when I give it some gas but... When I give it just a little bit of gas it "chokes" & stutter until I pass that position & give it some more gas, then it suddenly revs up & acts like normal. This only happens when there's a "load" on the engine/transmission & never in neutral which makes it hard to fix! I know that my description is somewhat vague but I hope you'll get the picture? Thanks for your input! As I suspected, the carburator is a tad to large? The air/fuel mixture gets a bit too "wet"!? Maybe that's the cause of the gas smell in the cupé? (not too bad now) I've sealed all the joints so nothing is leaking from the exhaust system any more! [Chevelle-List] Engine setup!
At the moment my Chevelle's got a 402 (bored 0.30) an Edelbrock RPM Intake and a Holley 800 DP! What's the approx bhp for this combination & is there anything i should replace to get better performance without ruin myself? I'm planning a full restoration of the engine soon! It doesn't smell like exhaust! It smells gasoline, but I can't find any leakage anywhere so it might be that the car gets a bit too much gas? There's traces of dripping on top of the intake manifold, maybe the carburator gets "flooded"? But I want to get the Valve cover exhaust issue fixed anyway! The car's engine isn't stock at all! (A 1971 Chevelle) The engin's a 402 BB (1972) with a Holley 800 DP & M/T valve covers! It's the driversides valvecover that's got this hose connection. At the passenger side the hole's plugged whith a rubber plug. At the base of the carburator there's a 1/4'' hose, thats been cut off & plugged with a bolt. Is this the place where the valve cover vent shoult go to?
