For the ip exam, I have heard that you can use the Doyle's book on
TCP/IP and a reference/book for multicast.

RE: booksamillion - GREAT SOURCE

2000-09-26 Thread Westmoreland, Alexis

I have used half.com. The experience depends on the seller. I ordered six
book one time. They were all coming from different sellers. Some books came
within a week and some took a couple of weeks. For the savings it was worth
it if you don't need the book right away. Before you order read the review
of the person u r ordering from. I recently ordered a Cisco book that lists
as $70 for $29.

Booksamillion is one of the best online book resources for our study group
in Atlanta. They've been very responsive to our requests and gives
exceptional pricing that beats www.bookpool.com, www.amazon.com,
www.borders.com and www.bn.com. We've ordered as little as 10 to as much as
20+ books. They also let you setup a commercial acct. where none of the
other online sources will. If you go to www.addall.com they beat everyone
hands down, everytime! If you get the $5.00 discount card, you save even
more. Essentially, they're not too good to be true, they're
FAD...Functioning as Designed...to save US money!

The other person that recommended www.half.com appears to be a good resource
for used Cisco books and also allows you to resell those you're looking to
get rid of, for a 'free' listing. If sold, they require 15% of the sold
price, which is pennies, so if anyone has any 'actual' experience using them
as a source, we'd be interested in hearing about it. We're always
interested in passing on good info. to our members.

Happy ordering...BTW, we're not receiving one dime or cookie for this 'free'
advertisement...yet! :-))

RE: ´ð¸´: 2509 Terminal Server

2000-07-12 Thread Westmoreland, Alexis

Hi Hou, I am a Ms, not a Sir. When I use the config from Caslow's book I can
do a reverse telnet by simply entering r1 thru r8 the 1st time. Then you do
a "ctrl, shift, ^, then x" to return to the termserver. After that you only
have to enter the session # (i.e. 1 for r1, 2 for r2, etc..).

However, I did erase my config from the terminal server (2509) and loaded
the config that you indicated in your note. However when I tried the
following, I got the following error.

termserver#telnet 127.0.0.1 2001
% Invalid IP address

Maybe there is a step missing. I know there is usually more than one way to
do something and I am certainly always open to learn another way.

The 'loopback' interface and 'ip host' command is only to make config easy.

I have to agree that this test is old, and a bit ambiguous on many
questions. An example: I ran across a question that asks you to select the
best answer about a protocol but don't tell you what protocol they are
asking about. All I did, at that point, was try to remember what protocols
were focused upon in the reading material and guess at the answer.

I will say that I used Robert's book to study for this exam, and I enjoyed
his inserts about "real world networking". This exam displays how old it is
in the questions it asks about technologies, and Robert's book lets you know
that even though you must know this subject for the exam it isn't too
prominent in the real world.

As for taking the test again... I passed this morning, with a dramatic
increase in score: from 64% to 89%
And I am proud to change my signature. =)

Will Cisco be rewriting the CID exam soon? I notice that the CCDP 2.0 list
still includes CID 3.0 640-025.

The test is ancient, and many of the questions were written to certify
instructors. (I have inside information on this! ;-) Some of these
questions miss the mark for people who won't be teaching the class.

For those of you who are members of the lab mailing
listhow long did you have to wait before you
started recieving mail from the list? When I signed
up, it mentioned that the admin only adds folks in one
fell swoop each week. It's been over 2 weeks and I
haven't seen anything. Should I send another SUBCRIBE

RE: notebook PC as console

We use Dell laptops. They have serial ports. When & Where are you teaching
the class? I would like to take it.

Subject: notebook PC as console

Sorry if this topic is way out of line and too stupid for most people, but
I'm really a Mac user, so I have an excuse. Because I will be teaching
Sniffer Pro classes, I have to buy a new notebook PC for taking on the
road. (Can't buy a Mac ;-()

My question: I want the PC to also act as a console port to Cisco routers
and switches. It seems from my cursory investigation that a lot of the
notebook PCs don't have a serial port anymore?? Or am I just not looking
hard enough at the spec sheets?

Many of them have a USB port. But does Cisco use USB for its console ports
yet? I don't think so!?

What do you all use for your PC console for a Cisco router or switch?

Once the router or switch is configured, of course I'll use Telnet to an
Ethernet port, but I'm worried about that initial config.

Thanks

Priscilla

I have a CCO account (Smartnet), but not a reseller account. I don't know
if that's the problem, but I only get a blank page when I hit that URL. Any
suggestions? I'm trying to price a lab for my company and I need to see if
I'm in the ballpark of my budget.

Thanks, Rik

RE: List Price

2000-05-19 Thread Westmoreland, Alexis

I am not a sir. I am a ms. Also, it is best to respond to the group (select
reply all).

If you have Cisco equipment that has a maintenance (SmartNet) contract, you
use that SmartNet # to open a cco account (at www.cisco.com). Or you can
sign up as a consultant. The following is an exert from the Cisco consultant
newsletter.

Cisco News for Consultants is a monthly electronic newsletter for
registered members of Cisco's Consultant Program. We encourage you to
read this publication for up-to-date news from Cisco.

Other consultants in your organization are eligible to receive Cisco
News for Consultants. They can subscribe by completing a Consultant
Program membership application at http//www.cisco.com/go/consult.

You can usually log on as a guest to get the books. If you want a cco login
you need to have a Cisco smartnet contract # or sign up as a Cisco
