Homebuilt Pix Firewall [7:42022]
Has anyone had any luck building a home built Pix Firewall? I saw mention of this back in September, but never saw the instructions. I have searched on Deja and found posts referring to the Franken-pix but they don't contain very much information. I have the Intel Nics that were mentioned in many posts (model 82557), the Intel Motherboard suggested (on order) and the 2mb Pix flash card that I had left over when I switched to a 16 meg flash. Any help would be appreciated. Re: Homebuilt Pix Firewall [7:42022]
Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard (check the revision, the news revs of the board seem to work better) 2 or 3 Intel 82577 Pro100/B NIC Cisco 16MB PIX Flash card (or the Cisco 2 meg Pix flash card) Floppy drive Case/power supply 128MB DRAM 350MHZ Processor w/ 512K cache I took this info from a post on securityie.com Anyway I am running on a P3-450 and 128 meg of ram. I tried other motherboard (ASUS) and the thing would not work. As soon as I used this motherboard, it came right up. I had a spare 2meg flash from a Pix upgrade I did and that is what I am using. Of course you can't run the latest Pix OS on it which kinda sucks. I don't have the $700 to fork over for that card. I did nothing to the bios on the motherboard. It came right up and worked. I hear you can change it to boot up from NET, but I think I will leave it alone (since it is working). One thing, do not try to buy this board from www.edgemicro.com. I have been waiting 3 weeks so far for the board I ordered from them. I finally ordered from another place in Texas and got it in 3 days. I ordered from www.directron.com Here is a link to the Motherboard. http://www.directron.com/mb-intel-bx2-na.html Hope that helps some, Don Hickey > On Friday 26 April 2002 08:03 pm, you wrote: > > Well I received the motherboard and everything came right up. Believe if I could find the info it would be here. All I found on the newsgroup search was to search for Franken-Pix. If I find out any info it will be posted here so we can stop with the me-too's. I am sure he is overwhelmed now and hopefully he posts the info soon. Re: Upgrade Flash in PIX520 [7:18760]
Here is a hint also - take out the old board when you install the new one. It doesn't tell you that in the docs :-) Don - Original Message - From: "Sar Feng" To: Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2001 1:42 AM Subject: Upgrade Flash in PIX520 [7:18760] > I have a PIX 520 with 2M Flash with ver 5.1, I want to upgrade it to ver 6.0 > need 8M flash, How do I do it? Re: how to build a pix firewall out of a PC box. [7:18335]
I acutally have an old Pix ISA flash card that I removed to install the 16 Meg flash. I have tried it on another motherboard, but it comes up with errors and just keeps rebooting. I am not sure if it has to do with the network cards or not. I can watch it from the serial port (console), and it gives me an error, then displays the config, a bunch of other stuff, and reboots. Re: Cisco Aironet vs Lucent ORiNOCO [7:20954]
I don't know about the Lucent stuff, but I installed some Cisco Aironet 340 series equipment last summer (99), and I have not had one trouble call at all. These are used constantly for classes and haven't had one probem. In fact I almost forgot we had them installed. You can't beat that :-) Donman - Original Message - From: "Steiven Poh-(Jaring MailBox)" To: Sent: Monday, September 24, 2001 9:25 PM Subject: Cisco Aironet vs Lucent ORiNOCO [7:20954] > Hello Folks, > > Any one got idea about above comparison? > > > Rgds, > Steiven Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=20982&t=20954 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Cisco Netacad for 640-603 [7:52358]
Well, I went though the version 1 of Semester 5 and there was so much info dumped on you, you have to be dedicated to studying the material and put forth the effort to keep up. This one is definately not a blow off class. I did pass the 640-503 so I am not sure what the 603 test is like. I do know I studied harder for that test than any others and got the lowest score on it than any other cert test I took to get my CCNP (865).
