Re: [CGUYS] Notebook for daughter

I have an IBM x31 ...older model which is very well built as opposed to
later x40+ which is tinny... It's small and does not have an optical drive.
Take a look at the T series IBMs after model 23 which have a drive slot
where you can get a DVDR and also other stuff fits in there. They are great
and not tinny. Try overstock.com and elsewhere. I purchased from NY city
vendor who is VERY conscientious and helpful. They have a webiste lots of
which is in an oriental language but don't be put off ...on the fone they
are all english speaking and nice. They are an authorized IBM repair
facility. The one I purchased was a refurb. It looked brand new and had all
the IBM software just like a new one. http://www.greatamco.com/ I have
nothing to do with them so this is not a plug.

[CGUYS] Notebook for daughter

2007-05-15 Thread Terry Taylor

An afterthought -- Apple refurbishes iBooks and sells new and used at a
discount to educators. You might want to ask about an educator discount
wherever you choose to buy.

I loved my first iBook (G3). Have had issues with my current one, and have
thought I would review the option of switching to a less expensive PC when
this one gets to the end of the trail.

Computer Guys did a "Tech Tuesday" discussion on this topic with Kojo.I
vaguely recall somebody singing the praises of the Toshiba lapbooks.
You might want to check the archives, to see if there's a summary of the
discussion.I think it was last September -- back to school time.

Right now, you can get a Dell or an Acer 1.6 MHz with 1 Meg ram, 14 inch for
425 bucks from tiger.
If you are up for more bucks, I would get the Averatec 10 in, which is
lighter and slightly faster.

I am looking for a notebook fir my daughter who is a school teacher.
She doesn't need a last model
with Vista and all. She could do with XP, an older model. Where do I
look for good notebooks at
a good price?

Many thanks

2007-05-14 Thread Rev. Stewart Marshall
If you want an older one you might try Dell refurbs they usually have
a good lot of refurbed Dells and most of these models will still have
XP on them.

Next is Compgeeks. (www.compgeeks.com)

Finally there is always Ebay but you want something that has some
guarantee on it.
