Re: [Cooker] Laptop recommendations?
Well, that depends on how well you can get Linux to run on them. If they are all flaky installs, or something is broke, then you won't be able to make any profit. People don't want to pay you to install something that's broke, when they can do it themselves. Pricing would be another issue, if you have to buy machines with Windows on them, and then install them, then it won't be worth anything. If you can find a way to buy them without having to pay for the MS liscense, then you might be able to cut people a good deal on a laptop. All in all, I think that if you can get a good laptop, which works well under linux, and for a decent price, you should be able to make some money. I know I'd at least tell my clients about it, if not buy one myself. Greg Drake wrote: I have been pondering the idea of starting a small business installing and selling Linux on laptops. It was insanely slow with XFree 3 and it doesn't work at all with XFree 4. Austin -- Forest C Adcock [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [Cooker] Laptop recommendations?
I have a Compaq Presario 1200, it's name is HELL, and for good reason. That's what installing was on this thing. Once I got the thing to actually install though, it works great. I can reinstall on here quite easily now as a matter of fact just by turning off auto dectection (for some reason, it still detects everything, it just dosen't hang up doing so anymore.) But all of that aside, I'd reccomend NOT purchasing one for linux use. From what I've seen of Dell's machines, they seem to work pretty good for Linux use. I know my boss uses one as his main computer, and it works like a champ. On Wednesday 16 October 2002 10:14 pm, James Sparenberg wrote: > I've got a Compaq Armada 700 that was a breeze to install. Re: [Cooker] Missing pine
I feel your pain. I was a pico user, and when I upgraded via fresh install, there was no pine avaliable. I was not aware that it wasn't GPLed, but I'm sure that that was the reason it was removed from the distro. Re: [Cooker] First Time Wizard won't use BB as default
it did, but it still defaults to kde On Sunday 06 October 2002 04:54 pm, David Walser wrote: > Did it create a file called .desktop in your home > directory? Does it contain: > DESKTOP=blackbox > > ? [Cooker] First Time Wizard won't use BB as default
The First time Wizard will not set BlackBox as the default Window Manager on my machine. Is this a problem more than I myself have seen, or is it just a problem with my install? Any ideas as to how to fix that problem and set BlackBox as my default?
[Cooker] can't change default Window Managers
For some reason I can't change my default window manager under 9.0. In 8.2 all I had to do was edit my .xinitrc file to point to blackbox, but in 9.0 it won't work. Any ideas? a bug maybe? or am I just overlooking something?
Re: [Cooker] 9.0 install - no hdlist2.cz- Do these disks work or not?
Now I'm new to cooker and all, but I've noticed this trend of you bitching about everyone on here. Kinda makes me wonder how anything ever gets done at mandrake when they all have to put up with you bitching all the time. Come on, Linux is not supposed to be some angry, upset community. We are known as the happy, helpful, and giving community, not angry, upset, assholes that only succed in holding other people back.
