 Anyone explain this?

[Cooker] RC1 - Still no sound for ES Maestro 2E chipsets

2002-03-15 Thread Joseph Welt

The output from the following commands is in the attached text file.

lspcidrake -v
lspci -v
lsmod

The attached file also lists the my /etc/modules.conf

/dev/mixer appears to be non existant.

I have attempted to setup the sound via drakconf's HardDrake. The
result of this attempt was an error page being displayed.

[Cooker] RC1 - Installation and drakconf still not detecting TridentCyberblade e4 (Trident 9540) video card properly

2002-03-15 Thread Joseph Welt

When attempting to configure my video card using the drakconf suite of
tools, they are not identifying my video card properly.

The card in question is a Trident Cyberblade e4 (Trident 9540).
when using drakconf it's guess comes up with the card listed as
other/unknown.

When I manually choose trident/cyberblade (generic) it attempts to
install XFree86 3.3.6 rather than 4.2.0.

Attached is a working XF86Config-4 file that works with this video
card/chipset and runs without issue under XFree86 4.*.

Also attached is the output from the following commands:

lspci -v
lspcidrake -v
lsmod

Here is a quick and dirty work around to resolve this issue.
0. su to root
1. Install XFree86 Server 4.2 RPM (found on disk1 /Mandrake/RPMS/)
2. Delete the /usr/bin/X11/X symlink (points to Xwrapper)
3. Recreate /usr/bin/X11/X symlink and point it to /usr/bin/X11/XFree86
4. chmod +s XFree86
5. Copy the attached XF86Config-4 file to /etc/X11
6. Run startx and enjoy

I am happy to provide additional details upon request otherwise I hope
the attached info will be helpful in resolving this issue prior to 8.2
GOLD.

[Cooker] Beta4 bug report - XFdrake does not auto detect Trident Cyberblade9540 Video chipset

2002-03-05 Thread Joseph Welt

Beta 4 - Install XFdrake does not propose the correct version of X for
the video card

Plus the install is defaulting to Framebuffer (works fine btw)

Config with XFdrake attempts to install XFree86 336 instead of 42

Work around -
-
1 Install XFree86-server-42XXX manually from Disk1
2 chmod +s /usr/bin/X11/XFree86 (the package install fails to suid it?)
3 rm /usr/bin/X11/X
4 ln -s /usr/bin/X11/XFree86 /usr/bin/X11/X
5 copy XF86Config-4 file into /etc/X11 (overwrite existing file if
there is one)

Attached is a copy of my working XF86Config-4 file

[Cooker] Mini-Commander Applet is defaulting to white text on whitebackground

2002-03-05 Thread Joseph Welt

the mini_commander_applet once added to the toolbar displays as white
text on white background.

Steps to reproduce this error (I'm sure there are other ways, this is
just how my setup is) - this is being run as a standard user - no root
priv's.

1. Convert the panel to type floating
2. Change tasklist properties to task width height to dynamic
3. run 'mini_commander_applet' to add the applet.
4. view results

simple working fix.

According to the mini-commander config, the default should be black
background with white text.
If you change the background and text to both black in the config you
will end up with black text on white background. (NOTE: you can
reproduce this within VMWare sessions as well).
