[Cooker] [Bug 1022] [Installation] Boot disk isn't created (dupe of 343/344?)

The step to create the boot floppy was completely skipped, so I couldn't boot Mandrake 9.1 at all. Tried this twice - same thing both times. This may be a dupe of an earlier bug (343/344, I think) but that indicated the bug was resolved. If it is resolved, it's not in the released code. Keep up the good work, guys. [Cooker] [Bug 1022] [Installation] Boot disk isn't created (dupe of 343/344?)
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1022 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-01 16:40 --- I was able to make a boot floppy at installation of RC1. There is an Advanced Boot Options (or something similar), and if you click on that, you'll see a check box for making the boot floppy. I think it should be more prominent, but it is in there. Not sure about your error 256. Maybe a bad floppy or you have it write protected? Just guessing here. Is it dangerous not to have a boot floppy? I only needed one to do the initial boot, because I dual boot with Windows. Once I boot with the floppy, I do a dd if=/dev/[boot_partition] count=1 bs=512 of=mdk91.bin And then I put that mdk91.bin file in my Windows C:\ directory, so I can use the Windows boot loader to get to Mandrake. Works great. (This isn't working for me with Red Hat 8.0, but that's another story.) If I didn't use the Windows boot loader to dual-boot, I might not worry about the boot floppy at all. - Original Message - To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 8:29 AM Subject: [Bug 1022] [Installation] Boot disk isn't created (dupe of 343/344?) 14:29 --- look: some it MDK9.1 partition, use was twice - the there. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: Installed 9.1 beta 2. https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1022 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-21 17:10 --- No - with the last beta and RC1, I found the advanced setting to make a boot floppy. Works perfectly. I *love* the summary at the end of installation that lets me go back and edit the settings. What a great distro. I know this is a new bug - I can enter it in Bugzilla if you want me to. 9.1 RC1 runs great on an Intel 845GBV board with a Radeon 7500 video card. The Xserver keeps recycling at startup on an IBM A21m laptop with an ATI Rage Mobility video adapter, when I did an upgrade from 9.0. (I did not try a fresh install.) 9.0 runs *great* on the A21m (except for internal modem support, as we all know).
