In RC3, if you logout of a GNOME session and select SHUTDOWN or REBOOT, the
system actually does begin shutdown (you can see one or two lines flash in text
mode about entering runlevel 6), but X restarts and puts up the GDM login panel
again.

If you hit CTRL-ALT-BKSP, the shutdown takes over (it is in progress) and opens
the bootsplash screen as it should have done to start with.

This works correctly if MdkKDM is used as the display manager.  It also works on
systems which aren't using the bootsplash.  It appears to be a race condition
between GDM and the bootsplash code.

This is more aesthetic than anything, since gdm will be stopped when dm service
is stopped..
