Amd64 laptop with Turion+Sis?
Is anybody using such a laptop? How behaves this chipset compared to Nvidia's and Via's ones? Is it well supported under Debian Pure64? Thanks in advance, v0n0

Temperature problem with 2.6.14-2.6.15
Hi, I'd want to use newer kernels, but there's a trouble with the temperature of the cpu: with 2.6.8 all is ok, instead using 2.6.14 or 2.6.15 cause a "freeze" of the temperature monitor. So if I power on, initial temperature is about 34-35 °C or less and fan is off. But next it won't activate itself, because even if powernowd is working (scaling is ok), fan is linked to cpu temp, that is blocked. It is not so nice... Could I make anything against this? But I noticed that if I click "Setup Helper Application" in KLaptop (so klaptop_acpi_helper becomes suid), my laptop uses all the power with no scaling (might be a profile problem?). I'm using KDE 3.4 but it was the same in 3.3. To let powernowd work again I had to manually chmod -s /usr/bin/klaptop_acpi_helper. I suggest to never enable it, because it has only 2 profiles: userspace (min freq), performance (max freq). So frequencies in the middle will never be used. For those who want to try translucency without waiting for the ABI transition of KDE there is an unoffical repository: deb http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/ unstable main I'm running it without major problems (even if apt-listbugs listed 1 grave bug for kde-base and 1 for kdm), but sometimes glitches occur in some windows. I did an apt-upgrade a few minutes ago, but I don't know if my cdrecord was upgraded, how is k3b instead. So I don't know if this was related to cdrecord. I tried cdrecord-proDVD_2.01-pre_x86_64 but that gave the above message ("Der Wecker klingelt" when started with german locale. Which debian package can you find this cdrecord-proDVD in? When I installed x-cd-roast, it requested it to burn dvds! I didn't try dvd+r so far, as i only bought dvd-r. dvd-r works fine with cdrecord-prodvd. I'd want to use dvd+r, because are more compatible and have higher quality. ciao, Ciao! -- Alessandro Dal Grande Student In The University Of Padua - Computer Science Linux Registered User #359258 System: GNU/Linux Debian Sid Pure64 on [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kernel: 2.6.8-10-amd64-k8 Mail: Thunderbird Chat: Kopete (ICQ) 150487234 Put the fan back into computing signature.asc Description: PGP signature signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

K3b - various troubles
1. When I start K3b with a non-root login, it opens but after the system check suddenly closes. From the shell I can read only 'Alarm clock', which I don't know what it means. My user is included in group 'burn' that is autorized ti use cdrecord etc. Kinda strange! 2. The dvd support is lacking some features like dvd+r simulation. Apart this, when I burn on a dvd+r (didn't try dvd-r) some files from my hdd, after the process (that doesn't report any error) I try to read it but...it's like it is blank! aRts problem
Hi there, is there a solution for this problem? If I turn from a song to another quickly Juk stops playing and aRts' use of the system raises up to 60% when it normally is at 0,25%!!! After a while a get a message like "CPU overload, aborting". This problem is not Juk related because the same thing happens with Mplayer and XMMS if I use them with aRts. No troubles if I select ALSA. But unfortunately I can't choose any other server than aRts with Juk! Is there anybody that solved this problem? (I tried putting ALSA instead of Autodetect in my sound system options as I read in a post but it didn't work for me!) Thanks PS: I'm using aRts 1.3.2-2 with kernel version 2.6.8-10-amd64-k8 in Debian pure64 and my audio card uses intel8x0 module -- Alessandro Dal Grande Student In The University Of Padua - Computer Science Linux Registered User #359258 System: GNU/Linux Debian Sid Pure64 on [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kernel: 2.6.8-10-amd64-k8 Mail: Thunderbird Chat: Kopete (ICQ) 150487234 Put the fan back into computing -- Email.it, the professional e-mail, gratis per te: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Telefona con Email.it Phone Card, tanti minuti di conversazione con il massimo del risparmio, clicca qui Clicca qui: http://adv.email.it/cgi-bin/foclick.cgi?mid=2687&d=11-2 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
