Bug#284090: gnome-session: Also happens here with 2.12

 Package: gnome-session
 Version: 2.12.0-4
 Followup-For: Bug #284090

I also have this problem after a fresh Debian etch beta 2 installation
 and then doing the following:

 1) login
 2) open 3 (this is what I did, didn't try for another amount)
 gnome-terminals
 3) log out, with Save Session on
 4) log in

What then happens is that the login happens normally, but the splash
screen 'hangs' at the GNOME terminal 'phase'. After clicking it, it's
gone again indeed, but that's a annoying. Waiting about 1 minute also
makes the splash screen disappear. And indeed, as reported eariler, one
cannot directly log out after logging in, while the splash screen is
there (or was just clicked away). A certain time out needs to be
 awaited.

Does it still happen with gnome-session 2.14 ? I think there are issues
with registering multiple terminals to the session, but this bug
shouldn't occur anymore.

Bug#402179: tar: FTBFS: race condition in test-suite

2006-12-13 Thread Anthony Towns
This bug seems to only occur for the posix format tar archives. It's
repeatable outside the tar test suite by doing:

#!/bin/sh

export TAR_OPTIONS=-H posix --pax-option=exthdr.name=%d/PaxHeaders/%f

echo hello file1
echo goodbye file2

while :; do
  tar cf archive.1 file1 file2

  tar cfT archive.2 /dev/null
  tar rf archive.2 file1
  tar rf archive.2 file2

  if cmp archive.1 archive.2 /dev/null; then
echo -n .
  else
echo -n +
  fi
done

The output should be all dots if the assumptions of the test are correct, but
I get:

+...+..+
..++.++.
.+..
...+
.+..
...+
.+.+

Which is to say it fails about 3% of the time on my system (stable
over about 2000 iterations). I'd say that warrants downgrading this bug
from serious.

The fundamental problem seems to be that the POSIX format tarballs
include the atime of the files in the archive (which may change between
adding the file to the first archive and the second), and the mtime of
the archive itself (which likewise may change).

I don't see any way to work around that, though -- --atime-preserve
helps (by eliminating the atimes), but that still leaves it failing
around 1.7% of the time (when the mtimes don't match, presumably).

If the test is run on a filesystem that preserves timestamps to the
nanosecond (or possibly even the microsecond?), this test will always
fail.

Cheers,
aj

Unfortunately the problem is still occuring. Attaching a new

Sorry for the late reply.

First of all, gnome-smproxy may be responsible for this behaviour and it
is safe to remove it. It is even recommended. The other possible culprit
is firefox but I think it has been fixed.

Ah, I didn't realize this was a current package from eclipse, I figured
based on the version numbers that it was a package rename. If both of these
packages are live, that makes this a serious bug after all -- though only
applicable to unstable in this case.

I don't see any conflicts between the -java packages, only the -jni
packages. I guess the -jni packages do need to conflict with each other
then, if they have file conflicts.

Is it not sufficient for libswt3.2-gtk-jni to conflict with
libswt-gtk-3.2-jni? apt-get seems to behave correctly in the current
situation (see below). Since libswt-gtk-3.2-jni is already in the
stable archive, I would think the onus would be on the new package to
conflict with existing packages.

Shaun

Bug#402946: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686: wrong harddisk size detected

2006-12-13 Thread Klaus Schneider
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686
Version: 2.6.18-7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

The kernel 2.6.18-3-686 detects a wrong harddisk size, which leads
to access beyond end of device errors and thereby makes the system
unusable. The corresponding partition cannot be mounted. Even cfdisk
does not run, because it detects a corrupted partition table.

System log:
Dec 13 13:35:04 werckmeister kernel: SCSI device sda: 139968963 512-byte hdwr
sectors (71664 MB)
Dec 13 13:35:04 werckmeister kernel: sda: p7 exceeds device capacity
Dec 13 13:35:04 werckmeister kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Dec 13 13:35:04 werckmeister kernel: sda: rw=0, want=146833964, limit=139968963
and many more of the attempt to access beyond end of device errors

The old kernel 2.6.17-2-686 detects the correct size:
Dec 13 17:00:31 werckmeister kernel: SCSI device sda: 156368016 512-byte hdwr
sectors (80060 MB)

Thus, reinstalling and using the old kernel 2.6.17.2-686 was
mandatory for me (the old kernel package was difficult to obtain
though).

your mplayer version is quite old; current one is 1.0~rc1-7

read the damn report, I did the report from another machine. sorry I
did not fixed that.

  Severity: serious

 why? I checked into debian-policy 10.1 :
 http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html
For this reason, it is recommended to support the
  standardized environment variable DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.

DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS is a recommendation of policy, not a requirement.

I also found out that debug is not in the list of options.
 See http://bugs.debian.org/157131

I will update that to 'noopt'

admitedly, but that's not wrt the name of the option, It's just that
thtis is the sole way to have a debug build of mplayer, that is more
than useful to generate useful backtraces and debug informations.

you can feel free to consider this bug is not worth investigating, but
I may also consider that generating useful backtraces for you is not
worh the effort, and for the next bugs I'll just send stupid mails
mplayer segfaults on foo and let you deal with that alone.

I do not care about the debug version a lot, I just wanted one with
debug symbols unstripped. But you're correct, you do not support
nostrip/noopt at all, and that's RC ! good catch.

attach is the relevant build log part.
the build was done on an x86 box (not the one I report the bug from).

I cannot rerpoduce this (and I tried on AMD64)

maybe because, If you had read the bug report, you would have seen
that the machine I did the report from was not the machine I built the
package on. I did a build of the last package, with an x86 box. not an
amd64.

givent that it's a register allocation failure it seems, that's no
wonder it works on amd64 that has plenty of'em available.

Bug#402949: missing dependency against lsb-base

Package: wifi-radar
Severity: serious

Hi dude

How is your trainee program going, hope you are doing well :)

I am sorry, but I am filling a serious bug against your package, because
it misses a dependency against lsb-base. Though lsb-base is
priority: required you need to depend on all packages which are
non-essential and lsb-base is not essential (which should be changed I
guess, but probably won't for etch).
I think the bug will never be really annoying as lsb-base is installed,
but according to policy it is still a bug, sorry ... you know
bureaucracy.

Hi,

The past week I've had four sarge boxes apache processes lockup.
apachectl restart works without error, but the webservice is still not
responding. Other methods (killall -9 + invoke-rc.d restart, etc.) are
tried but still, no webservice and nothing in error.log to indicate a
problem.

Attaching a strace to the apache process, I see that it is in a loop
complaining that /var/cache/apache/__db.ssl_cache.db already exists.
Removing this file and restarting fixes the problem.

Also I notice in these situations that there are hundreds of ssl.mutex*
files in /var/log/apache.

Possible DoS attack in the wild? I wouldn't think so but it's been the same
thing on four different servers in a week... I'm going to post to some lug
mailing lists later today to see if anyone else is seeing this.

Best

Mark

Bug#325551: How to handle filename conflict aleph (Packages aleph, tetex-bin, texlive-bin)?

2006-12-13 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
From Paul's comments, it seems to me that there is no need for the
current Aleph it's been replaced, and it's three years old. I have no
opinion about whether it ought to be dropped from Debian.

Paul also explains that AFNIX replaced Aleph, and should not be thought
of as just a new version with a name change. I had misunderstood.
Given his explanation, we should think of AFNIX and Alpha as two
different entities I think.

That means that Paul should continue with AFNIX, I think, and continue
learning; there isn't any hue and cry I know of asking for AFNIX to be
in Debian right away, so I see no reason he shouldn't just continue as
he has been.

This however does not solve the name clash with Aleph. So I think there
are three possibilities (repeating here what Frank already said
somewhat):

1) Leave things alone, and ignore the problem. This, it seems to me,
requires some kind of go-ahead from the release team.

2) Drop aleph. This would be warranted if it were of no use any longer,
or if it were buggy. But the *only* bug against Aleph is the name clash
with TeX, so there is no independent reason to prefer this solution.
The question remains, however, whether the current version has any use,
and I simply don't know the answer to that. If it does, then, as I
said, I'm happy to maintain it.

3) Retain aleph, and change the name of the binary in one package or the
other. If we don't do (2), and the release team is not happy with (1),
then this is obviously the right course. I don't care at all which
program's name is changed or what it's changed to. What are the pros
and cons?

Thomas

reason the build system defines NDEBUG ?!

like I said in my report, other software in the debian archive that
use the libmpeg2 do not segfault here, hence I suspect a bug in the
embeded libmpeg2 mplayer ships.

Statically linked or not, you should link against the debian one,
rather than the embededed one to avoid such problems, and benefit from
the audits debian already do on its own libmpeg2.

but please, give me a break, an assert is everything but a fix.

Hi,

Ignore my previous bugreport if you got it, I got the
strace:

Hi,

The past week I have seen apache lockup on four
different servers. Upon apachectl restart it comes back up
without any errors... but the webserver is still not
responding.

I look in /var/log/apache and there are about a
bazillion ssl.mutex* files in there. Restart a few more
times... still nothing. Attach a strace to it and we
see:

open(/var/cache/apache/__db.ssl_cache.db,O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE,
0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
stat64(/var/cache/apache/ssl_cache.db, 0xb130) = -1 ENOENT (No such file

open(/var/cache/apache/__db.ssl_cache.db,O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE,0600)
 = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
Process 32538 detached

...rm that ssl_cache.db file up there, restart, and it
is back.

These are debian sarge machines, although I'm wondering
if there isn't a new DoS exploit in the wild right now?
The machines are fully patched. Anyone else seen this?

Does it still happen with gnome-session 2.14 ? I think there are issues
with registering multiple terminals to the session, but this bug
shouldn't occur anymore.

I'm still running the same setup, with today's testing and it still
hangs. Or should I setup those terminals again?

Bug#402935: sqwebmail: SqWebMail should be compiled with --disable-autorenamesent

2006-12-13 Thread Stefan Hornburg (Racke)

Ralf G. R. Bergs wrote:

Package: sqwebmail
Version: 0.47-4sarge5
Severity: wishlist

I feel that choosing to build with auto-renaming the sent messages folder is
undesirable, because hardly anyone deliberately would organize their sent
messages this way. People who use IMAP *and* webmail have a strange mixture
of sent messages in the flat sent folder, plus the messages in the
expanded folder structure SqWebMail creates, like:

   Sent 2006 11-Nov

So, could you please build with --disable-autorenamesent enabled in
the future? Alternatively, you could patch the source so that you can
configure the behavior at runtime. :-)

That is certainly a good idea, but it'll have to wait until etch has been
released.

Bug#401570: Processed: Re: Bug#401570: libswt3.2-gtk-jni: apt-get upgrade fails

2006-12-13 Thread Shaun Jackman

On 12/12/06, Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I don't see any conflicts between the -java packages, only the -jni
packages. I guess the -jni packages do need to conflict with each other
then, if they have file conflicts.

Thank you for bringing to my attention that only the -jni packages
conflict. The fundamental reason the two packages conflict is that
they provide exactly the same libraries. So, to close bug #376672
(libswt-gtk-3.1-java conflicts libswt3.1-gtk-java) it occurred to me
that libswt-gtk-3.1-java could depend on libswt-gtk-3.2-jni |
libswt3.2-gtk-jni.

The catch is that both JNI libraries are somewhat misnamed, because
version 3.2-1 of both packages provided the soname libswt-gtk-3232.so,
whereas version 3.2.1-1 of the packages provide the soname
libswt-gtk-3235.so. If 3.2.2-1 is also released under the package name
libswt3.2-gtk-jni (likely), it will not be suitable to provide the
needed dependency (namely, libswt-gtk-3235.so). So, I need to depend
as an alternative on libswt3.2-gtk-jni ( 3.2.1 3.2.2). How do
I accomplish this? So far I have...

Package: libswt-gtk-3.2-java
Depends: libswt-gtk-3.2-jni (= ${binary:Version})
 | libswt3.2-gtk-jni ( 3.2.1)

One solution would be for both libswt-gtk-3.2-jni and
libswt3.2-gtk-jni to provide a pseudo-package libswt-gtk-3235-jni and
depend on that. The only downside is that both SWT packages have to be
modified to support this mechanism.

Cheers,
Shaun

 did not fixed that.

read your own damn reports yourself

in all your reports, Version: 1.0~rc1-2

how am I supposed to know which versions you are using?

 Severity: serious
 why? I checked into debian-policy 10.1 :
 http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html
For this reason, it is recommended to support the
 standardized environment variable DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS is a recommendation of policy, not a requirement.

I also found out that debug is not in the list of options.
 See http://bugs.debian.org/157131

I will update that to 'noopt'

admitedly, but that's not wrt the name of the option, It's just that
thtis is the sole way to have a debug build of mplayer, that is more
than useful to generate useful backtraces and debug informations.

sole way?

did you try compiling it with '-g' instead of '-g3' ?

if you have a amd64 machine handy , did you try debugging on it?

you can feel free to consider this bug is not worth investigating, but

I never said that

I actually immediatly started compilation of a debug

compilation takes 20minutes

after 20minutes, I sent you a some gdm info , and proposed a quick hack
to avoid any security risk

then you come pissing me off saying that I do not want to address your bug

I may also consider that generating useful backtraces for you is not
worh the effort, and for the next bugs I'll just send stupid mails
mplayer segfaults on foo and let you deal with that alone.

I just downgraded this bug because it is not a requirement of the policy

I do not care about the debug version a lot, I just wanted one with
debug symbols unstripped. But you're correct, you do not support
nostrip/noopt at all, and that's RC ! good catch.

I do care about debugging issues.

no it is not RC. RC is what the policy mandates, not what the policy
recommends.

attach is the relevant build log part.
the build was done on an x86 box (not the one I report the bug from).
I cannot rerpoduce this (and I tried on AMD64)

maybe because, If you had read the bug report, you would have seen
that the machine I did the report from was not the machine I built the
package on. I did a build of the last package, with an x86 box. not an
 amd64.

givent that it's a register allocation failure it seems, that's no
wonder it works on amd64 that has plenty of'em available.

this said, I still cannot reproduce it . So , please give me some time
to find a way to reproduce it. And that means tomorrow evening. I cannot
 access an etch/i386 today

Bug#393079: savedefault still a problem on RAID systems

2006-12-13 Thread Wolfgang Karall
Hello,

just to add to the mail from Otavio on Dec 5th: this is still a problem
with the current etch version of grub, haven't tested sid's version.

My setup: 2 HDDs, 3 partitions each sd[ab][123], 3 RAID1-Arrays md[012],
root-Filesystem and also /boot on /dev/md1.

Using

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-3-k7
root(hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-3-k7 root=/dev/md1 ro
md=1,/dev/sda2,/dev/sdb2
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-3-k7

the system boots fine, if I add a savedefault entry below the initrd
line (as update-grub does by default), I get Error 15: file not found.
Which is especially fun if this is a remote system where I have means to
interactively edit grub's menu at boot time. ;)

While trying to figure out the problem, I did the whole setup once more
in a VMware-Installation, same result: savedefault breaks the boot
process, without it I can boot just fine. So I guess it's not really
hardware dependend.

Kind regards
Wolfgang Karall

options skeleton file is not found/copied, which would be very helpful
especially for new users of gnupg.

  cp /usr/share/gnupg/options.skel ~/.gnupg/options

obviously does the same, but I still think this is a bug, especially
since this worked in the past.

Kind regards

Bug#401745: sympa: Does not set up correct owner and group

2006-12-13 Thread Stefan Hornburg (Racke)

Marco Solieri wrote:

Package: sympa
Version: 5.2.1-0.1
Severity: grave
Tags: experimental
Justification: renders package unusable

After a fresh installation lot of important Sympa files are owned by
root:root and are unaccessable. This is because sympa processes run as
sympa user.

The configuration process itself suffers this problem reporting
errors probably due to this. In fact '/etc/sympa/data_structure.version'
is owned by root and this make the configuration process fail.

Moreover the entire '/usr/lib/sympa/' directory is owned (according with
postinst script) by root. I fixed setting up user and group to sympa:sympa
on that subtree.

/usr/lib/sympa is owned by root on purpose, the data directories for sympa
are within /var.

Package: stellarium
Version: 0.8.1-2
Severity: normal

I'm not experienced with stars, only downloaded stellarium now, and
tried to locate the Orion constellation. And for some reason, Alnitak is
missing here. That is, I can type it in the search box, and it center to
the correct location - but there is nothing at all to see there, no
matter how far I zoom. And yet, on real sky, I can clearly see it.. and
also the constellation lines show that it should be there.

Note that translations update are allowed during the freeze, so I expect
to see this translation in Etch :-)

Ah! Yet another information:

The winscard_clnt.c:3232:SCardCheckDaemonAvailability() PCSC Not

such processes.

Once beid is restarted, ps -eaf | grep pcsc shows me belpcscd running
and the winscard_clnt.c... message disappears.

And, I have to restart beidpcscd
(/etc/init.d/beid start) once logged in. It seems that it doesn't
start correctly during the boot process.

Strange, I haven't seen /that/ before.

When booting, do you see any message related to belpic and/or beid, or
just when the beid init script is running?

I cannot see anything special.

Bug#402966: harden-doc: typo in bind conf change script (many any) and suspicious example

2006-12-13 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: harden-doc
Version: 3.10
Severity: minor

Hi!

Appendix E _Sample script to change the default Bind installation_[1]
includes a script where there seems to be a typo:

|
| This script will not many any changes to your setup.
|

maybe s/many/apply/ ?

Moreover the end of the appendix shows the initd file as
changed by the script (on a woody box).
Firstoff, maybe this example result should be updated to etch
(I don't know whether anything is different...).
Then, maybe I'm mistaken, but I cannot see where the changes
applied by the script are...
For instance, where are the -g and -u options?
They should appear in the start() function, shouldn't they?

This issue is probably related to the update of libneon from the

This bug is still unfixed in etch, but it's not showing up on the RC

(cfitsio3) and my 'reopen' confused the index or something. I'm trying
to fix the effects with 'reassign', we'll see how that goes.

In any case, 2.510-1.3 (which is the current unstable version and the
only non-RC-buggy one) is not yet built on mips and sparc because of
transient-looking buildd errors, so I suppose somebody should requeue
it on those buildds.

Bug#379564: How to handle filename conflict aleph (Packages aleph, tetex-bin, texlive-bin)?

2006-12-13 Thread Frank Küster
Thomas Bushnell BSG [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 1) Leave things alone, and ignore the problem. This, it seems to me,
requires some kind of go-ahead from the release team.

 2) Drop aleph. This would be warranted if it were of no use any longer,
or if it were buggy. But the *only* bug against Aleph is the name clash
with TeX, so there is no independent reason to prefer this solution.
The question remains, however, whether the current version has any use,
and I simply don't know the answer to that. If it does, then, as I
said, I'm happy to maintain it.

I don't know an answer, either - but popcon gives some hints:

18170 aleph-emacs 23 0 0 023 (Debian Qa
Group)
21858 aleph-doc 12 0 0 012 (Debian Qa

30097 aleph 3 1 2 0 0 (Debian Qa
Group)
37868 aleph-dev 1 0 1 0 0 (Debian Qa
Group)

the 3's are the area of the not in sid packages, in other words
leftovers that have never been upgraded or removed.

That's not a strong argument to keep it...

 3) Retain aleph, and change the name of the binary in one package or the
other. If we don't do (2), and the release team is not happy with (1),
then this is obviously the right course. I don't care at all which
program's name is changed or what it's changed to. What are the pros
 and cons?

I'm against changing TeX's aleph. It would be against the upstream
decision. And knowing the information Paul gave, I suggest not to
rename to afnix, but to something like aleph-runtime or similar.

Bug#383872: gnome-power-manager: frequency scaling change when monitor is shut after idle

2006-12-13 Thread Marius Mikucionis
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.14.3-3+b1
Followup-For: Bug #383872

I wish to change the CPU frequency scaling governor when screensaver kicks in
and
the monitor is shut off, and change back the governor when awaken.
So I could use the command-line option for monitor-suspend/wakeup too.

The motivation is to save the power and keep out from the dust brought by fans
when temperature hits its limits. Today linux provides several governors,
in particular powersave, performance and ondemand. I would use the ondemand
governor, however it seems to be too slow for interactive use, so I wish that
power-manager put ondemand governor when I am away (and screensaver is engaged)
and put back performance when I am back.

BTW, hibernate package provides some low (driver) level hibernation tweaking
(see man hibernate.conf), so perhaps gnome-power-manager is using/could use
that
configuration?

I was trying to build the qmail-src package from the Debian qmail source
package, not the real qmail package from the qmail-src package. I
don't understand why an automated debianization requires existing users
to succeed. Or I may not have understood the purpose of the qmail-src
package.

Note also that if it is a known issue that you don't want to fix, you
should mark the bug as wontfix instead of closing the bugs. I never

Bug#402953: tetex-doc: Wrong section of doc-base registration

Hilmar Preusse [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Package: tetex-doc
 Version: 3.0.dfsg.3-3
 Severity: minor

 Hi,

the doc-base actually registers the teTeX docs in Section: Apps/Text .
As there is another section Tex it should probably go there.

Are you sure? On my system, the only package registering to TeX was
tetex-bin, and considered this a bug, because the doc-base documentation
says

,
| Section
|
| Section where the document belongs; this should follow the
| sections outlined in The Debian Menu sub-policy.
`

I think this is a bad decision, because documentation for non-menu
things won't fit in well there. But if we have to choose, Text is the
proper place for TeX things, I guess.

On the other hand, it's not uncommon in Debian to change things by just
doing it differently, so we could as well use TeX. What do others
think?

might present a security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or
received the file from a trusted source. To open the file,
rename the file to the correct extension for C source code,
then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With
menu to choose a specific application for the file.

This is not the most absurd one I've gotten. Once it decided that a WAV
file — that's right, a binary file — is plain text! And then refused to
 play it...

 1. This file doesn't look like C code, at least not any more than any
other JavaScript code. Currently, it is available on the web at
http://asurvey.net/ccsfagent/media/survey.js.

 2. It might present a security risk to the system about as much as, say,
a meteor. A meteor could hit the system. A C file named FOO.js is
probably no more likely to present a security risk when passed to
gvim.

 3. The suggestion to rename it is, of course, silly because it's been
misidentified.

 4. The suggestion to use Open With is silly because you have to do that
each and every time; there is no way to say no, you idiotic
nautilus, you're wrong, it's a damned javascript file, shut up.

 I've searched preferences, I've searched gtweakui-nautilus, I've
searched gconf: There appears to be no way to turn off this. Please,
 please fix it...

Thanks for your report, and sorry for the delay.

The information to identify different file types belongs in
shared-mime-info, therefore I'm reassigning this bug.

Bug#402665: gnutls13: gnutls and exim work here

2006-12-13 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: gnutls13
Version: 1.4.4-3
Followup-For: Bug #402665

For what it's worth, I tested for this problem on my setup and did not
encounter it. I'm running on an Athlon chip, no Xen (2.4 kernel--see
below).

exim4-daemon-heavy4.63-11

The test consisted of sending a message via /usr/sbin/exim4 -t. The
message went out via TLS and then a copy came back (also via TLS, for
another system of mine also running the same versions of
exim4-daemon-heavy and libgnutls13, but under a 2.6.17 kernel, dual
processor Athlon, stock Debian kernel, no Xen). The message made the
full round-trip, with the headers showing
esmtpsa (TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256) going out (it did not go directly to my other
system) and
esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) coming in.

I hope I continue not to observe it! I don't have a lot of time to
help trouble-shoot, but the report got me sufficiently concerned to do
the test. I thought I'd pass it on.

Bug#402970: ITP: pyjamas -- compiler and library to build AJAX apps in Python

2006-12-13 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Thomas Viehmann [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: pyjamas
  Version : 0.1 (+ svn)
Upstream Author : James Tauber and contributers
* URL : http://pyjamas.pyworks.org/
* License : Apache 2.0 (mostly)
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : compiler and library to build AJAX apps in Python

pyjamas is a framework to build applications running as JavaScript
in the web browser using Python. This is achieved by providing a
compiler translating (a subset of) Python code to JavaScript.
The library shipping with pyjamas is a python implementation of the
one of the Google Web Toolkit. The latter achieves the same using
  Java as a source language.

Bug#337317: seeing this problem (or something very similar) with 0.6.11-1

2006-12-13 Thread Andreas Jellinghaus
If you have both /dev/bus/usb and /proc/bus/usb that is a bug in your
system config and can trigger this. udev will start two processes,

one tries the /dev/bus/usb device, one tries the /proc/bus/usb device,
and the one who can claim the interface wins.

remove either /dev/bus/usb or /proc/bus/usb or edit the openct udev
script in /lib/udev to ignore requests for one of those two.

but for most users it is not important at all which reader has their
smart card (e.g. if you use opensc-pkcs#11 and the application simply
looks at all slots), so this is a minor problem from my point of view.
still for low level tools like openct-tool, opensc-took, pkcs15-init
etc. you need to enter the reader number, so it might be annoying.

This is an annoyance because my ssh-agent gets confused across
unplug/replugs when the card changes identifiers, and i have to reload
the keys for it.

If i can help in debugging this at all, please let me know.

true. for some reason this never happends on my machines. maybe ubuntu
does something different? if you only have /dev/bus or /proc/bus
but not both, and the problem still happends, then there is a big
problem and we need to debug it. but for the time being I guess it
is the dual /dev/bus and /proc/bus that is causing the problems.

Regards, Andreas

Bug#400624: dsniff: urlsnarf should sanitize sniffed requests

2006-12-13 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 400624 important
thanks

Since urlsnarf is usually used on a terminal to have a look at
requested URLs in real-time, a malicious attacker could use requests
with escape sequences to execute arbitrary code.

By this reasoning, cat would have a grave bug for allowing users to send
untrusted files to the terminal without escaping.

If a terminal can be exploited to cause arbitrary code execution through
control sequences in a file being displayed, we should consider this a bug
in the terminal. I don't see any reason that dsniff should be picked on
here just because the untrusted data it's displaying comes directly from the
network.

Bug#402974: xen-utils-common: xen domain do not always shutdown

2006-12-13 Thread Kees van Vloten

Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When shutting down xen domains with '/etc/init.d/xendomains stop' most
of the time not all domains are stopped when the script finishes.

As it turns out the xendomains-script queries running domains by
executing 'xm list', this command replies its usage info sometimes
instead of giving proper output. I suspect this happens when xen is
busy (e.g. with shutting down domains).

I have patched xendomains with a wrapper around 'xm list', in order to
retry when it returns 'Usage ...' instead of the normal list of running
domains.
The other thing included in the patch is to allow longer domain names
(up to 40 chars) to be handled properly (solves bug #395305).

Bug#402975: debian-policy: Introduce a requirement for internationalisation of debconf templates

2006-12-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.7.2.2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

This should probably have been done for a long time but better late than
never.

The gettext-based system for debconf templates internationalisation is now
mature enough (it appeared immediately after the release of woody).

The i18n contributors have made big efforts last years to enforce i18n using
gettext for debconf templates and all packages which lack this feature have
been provided (and are still provided) with a patch to help their
maintainers doing the switch to po-debconf.

So, I think it's now time to enforce this and do this as soon as possible in
the etch-lenny release cycle.

Attached is a first draft of a patch that would turn the use of a
gettext-based system in packages which use debconf into a requirement.

I'm perfectly aware that this introduces a must without doing it a
should before, which is probably not very common practice. However, given
the low impact of this change after two NMU campaigns on existing packages
to make them switch to po-debconf, this would indeed be possible, in my
opinion.

Bug#402738: Also experience this (also: gstreamer-0.8; not on ppc)

Additional data points: goobox (gstreamer-0.8) crashes now (this is how I
discovered the bug). I've not reproduced this on ppc but perfectly on amd64.
I don't know
when this started as I don't use goobox too often on amd64.

Whenever I attempt to run goobox / sound-juicer, I see the following
error message in the log:

kernel: hda: write_intr: wrong transfer direction!

Since other programs (e.g. grip) work, and I've not upgraded my kernel
recently, I don't think this is a kernel problem, but some low-level
library involved both in gstreamer-0.8 and gstreamer-0.10

Please tell me which other information you need; I can downgrade
specific parts to find out what changed, but I don't know where to
start :-(

hrm. /dev/bus/usb appears to be created/managed by udev entirely, but
/proc/bus/usb is exported (as an empty directory) by the kernel, and
then usbfs is mounted on top of that.

I can unmount /proc/bus/usb, but i get an error trying to remove the
directory:

[0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# rmdir /proc/bus/usb
rmdir: /proc/bus/usb: Operation not permitted
[1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]#

fwiw, /proc/bus/usb gets mounted in /etc/init.d/mountkernfs.sh, which
appears to be part of the initscripts package under etch.

udev will start two processes, one tries the /dev/bus/usb device,
one tries the /proc/bus/usb device, and the one who can claim the
 interface wins.

i can see why that would be a problem. i'm just not sure what to do
about it. Maybe this bug should be reassigned to udev or initscripts?

remove either /dev/bus/usb or /proc/bus/usb or edit the openct udev
script in /lib/udev to ignore requests for one of those two.

with /proc/bus/usb unmounted, i'm still getting two ifdhandlers, but
with slightly different messages than before:

initialization failed (driver egate)
Dec 13 16:37:56 squeak ifdhandler[14736]: unable to open reader egate usb
/proc/bus/usb/002/032

I haven't fiddled with /lib/udev/openct_usb yet.

However, despite the two ifdhandlers, while /proc/bus/usb is
unmounted, the reader seems to be persistently labeled reader 0.

If i can help in debugging this at all, please let me know.

hrm. i still don't know why udev should be spawning two ifdhandler
processes if /proc/bus/usb is unmounted. If that's not OK, maybe this
should be reassigned to udev. But if that is deemed acceptable, maybe
the bug should be with the initscripts package, for including an
/etc/init.d/mountkernfs.sh which mounts /proc/bus/usb even on systems
which have /dev/bus/usb already?

 Hi,

The 'Open with' dialog that offers the user the possibility of adding
or removing programs to open a specific file format. The problem is
that it's impossible to remove programs from this list, because the
 remove button is often disabled.

It might be a bit annoying because when you left-button click over a
file the 'Open with' menu shows a lot of apps to do this task, if you
have installed many packages that can handle this file format.

To reproduce this bug follow this steps:
 - Left click over a file, let's say an MP3 file
 - Select 'Properties'
 - Go to the 'Open with' tab
 - The 'Remove' button is disabled

This button should only be disabled if there's only one program to
 open the file.

This is because currently, there is no way to express that a .desktop
file on the system should be hidden from the user. This may even be
intentional: how would you bring back an application you have removed?

In all cases, as it is about standardization, I welcome you to discuss
it either on desktop-devel-list (the GNOME development list) or on
xdg-list (where freedesktop.org standards are discussed). I'm leaving
this bug open as long as the situation isn't clarified, but I don't
think the BTS is the right place to discuss such things.

The kernel 2.6.18-3-686 detects a wrong harddisk size, which leads
to access beyond end of device errors and thereby makes the system
unusable. The corresponding partition cannot be mounted. Even cfdisk
does not run, because it detects a corrupted partition table.

It also reports that the partition exceeds the disk, why? The error
message just reports that it tries to access sectors beyond the reported
