Bug#485135: libc6-dev: XSI-compliant version of strerror_r() not useable from C++

 Hi,

I want to use the XSI-compliant version of strerror_r(). The code below
 compiles
without any error using the gcc.

Trying to compile this code as C++ code using the g++ always fails because the
compiler always tries to use the GNU version of strerror_r() that returns an
char* instead of an int. Trying to define _XOPEN_SOURCE=600 does not change
 anything.

The GNU version is used because _GNU_SOURCE is defined. It is defined
unconditionally by g++.

Bug#436267: stuck at 2.6.21

2008-07-17 Thread Adam M. Costello
I'm just a regular Debian user who long ago built my own kernels (for
a forgotten reason) and ran into headaches getting out of sync with
the official config, so for the past several years I've been using the
pre-built Debian kernel images, and generally been happier.

But now I have a DV video camera and the only way I know to get the data
off the tapes is with dvgrab, which works on 2.6.21 and not on any later
Debian kernel image (so far).

I normally track the testing release, but now I'm stuck at 2.6.21 until
a later release works with dvgrab.

Bug#430449: Still seeing this one

2008-07-17 Thread Chris Searle

Followup to debian bug 430449:

Denyhosts on etch (2.6-1etch1)

Just added a deny plugin last week.

Denyhosts added one new IP but the deny plugin received 58 IPs.

Note that 57 of these IPs ARE present in /etc/hosts.deny from before -
but it was not the entire list - have been running denyhosts for a
long time without the plugin - I have 13645 blocked hosts in total.

Oddly - the single IP that is missing from the deny list is 127.0.0.1
- which is also in the allowed-hosts file - but was once blocked (the
very first day I installed denyhosts). This made me wonder if perhaps
the 58 IPs were ones that my system had blocked over time - the 13645
are probably mostly from the denyhosts sync. However - I seem to have
blocked 248 hosts directly (going from looking at the number of IPs in
the various /var/lib/hosts-* files).

file reports PNG (image) files as data, even though there's an entry
in /usr/share/file/magic for PNG files, and the entry appears to be
correct.

For instance:

   $ /usr/bin/file /usr/lib/python2.5/doc/html/icons/contents.png
   /usr/lib/python2.5/doc/html/icons/contents.png: data

It does the same thing for every PNG file I've tried.

Bug#490860: webdeveloper: build from source

2008-07-17 Thread Luca Falavigna

XPI contains all sources, isnt it?

It isn't the preferred form. It lacks the ant build script upstream
uses. Locales're missing.

Locales are needed and I'd like to provide them again, probably by
including source files too.

Authors does not distribute releases in formats different from xpi:
http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/

Files are human readable, source can be reconstructed, that's true.
There's a source link in the homepage however. Author doesn't provide a
source tarball, but that doesn't release distributors from the GPL
obligations.

Previous versions used get-orig-source target in debian/rules to fetch
code from upstream CVS using tags feature. I will probably use it too.

Just had a quick look at the code. In deny_hosts.py we see the
following:

if new_denied_hosts:
if not status:
msg = WARNING: Could not add the following hosts to
%s % self.__prefs.get('HOSTS_DENY')

else:
msg = Added the following hosts to %s %
self.__prefs.get('HOSTS_DENY')

self.__report.add_section(msg, new_denied_hosts)
if self.__sync_server:
self.sync_add_hosts(new_denied_hosts)

plugin_deny = self.__prefs.get('PLUGIN_DENY')
if plugin_deny: plugin.execute(plugin_deny, deny_hosts)

Now - I'm no python coder - so I can't easily follow what led to this
point - BUT it does appear strange that the call to plugin.execute
passes deny_hosts as a variable instead of new_denied_hosts which the
rest of the section is using.

You seem to have 3 hard disks:

kernel: ata1.00: 15625 sectors, multi 0: LBA48 NCQ (depth 31/32)

kernel: sdb: sdb1 sdb2 sdb3 sdb4

kernel: hdb: ST3120026A, ATA DISK drive
kernel: hdb: hdb1 hdb2 hdb3 hdb4

The kernel indeed sees the 4 partitions on the second drive, but the
partman log (thanks for including that as well) shows:

snip
/lib/partman/init.d/35dump: IN: DUMP =dev=sdb
parted_server: Read command: DUMP

Path: /dev/sdb
Sector size: 512
Sectors: 15625
Sectors/track: 63
Heads: 255
Cylinders: 9726
Partition table: no
/snip

So, the installer is told that the disk does not yet have a partition
table, which explains what you see during partitioning.
This makes this an issue in libparted, not in the installer itself.
Therefore reassigning your report to the appropriate team.

Some questions that may help them.

How exactly was this drive formatted? Has it been used as part of a
pseudo-hardware RAID set up from the BIOS maybe?

Does the command line tool 'parted' show the partitions and what exactly
does 'fdisk' show. To get this info, use the following procedure:
- boot the installer in expert mode
- when installer components are displayed for selection, select
  parted-udeb for installation
- switch to debug shell on VT2 and enter the following commands:
  # fdisk -l /dev/sdb fdisk.out 21
  # parted /dev/sdb print parted.out 21
- include the resulting files in your reply

Please also try a daily built version of the installer. This has a newer
version of parted (1.8 instead of 1.7). Does that make a difference?

Cheers,
FJP

I'm in favor of an upload soon too. I'm working on merging in the pgp

deciding what to do in case the contents of the Deb822 object change),
but if that has to wait until after this release, I think that's ok.

In case you haven't noticed (I indeed forgot to note that in the bug, doing that
now) I added a branch containing more or less that patch:

That is incorrect. The default values for SLAPD_CONF and SLAPD_PIDFILE that

Bug#491149: initramfs-tools: panic() won't print error message

2008-07-17 Thread Loic Grenie
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.92e
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

If the panic() function is invoked it should print a message
but it does not because stdout is not connected to the
console.

The fix is easy: just add a /dev/console to the echo command.

I attach a patch, but it's probably easier to fix by hand.
Consider changing echo $@ /dev/console to echo $@ /dev/console
(I don't know if it's a good idea, but it looks better; if you don't
want to protect $@ for whatever reason, $* would be philosophically
better).

Thanks,

Bug#491151: Handle webmin address using SSL by default

2008-07-17 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: squid
Version: 2.7.STABLE2-2
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertag: debian-edu

In Debian Edu, we do some modification to the default squid.conf file
to get it working in our environment. It would be great if the
generic part of our changes would be included by default in squid for
Lenny. This BTS report is about one of these changes.

A long time ago, we discovered that the default squid configuration
did not work well as an APT proxy. The cached object size was too
small, thus not caching some of the big packages, and the Release and
Package file did not stay too long in the cache. These are the
options we configure to do this:

  maximum_object_size 20480 KB
  refresh_pattern (Release|Package(.gz)*)$ 0 20% 2880

I am not absolutely sure the setting still make sense, but if it does,
please change the default squid configuration to a change to make
squid work better as an APT cache.

Happy hacking,

Bug#491153: aircrack-ng: very slow injection

2008-07-17 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: aircrack-ng
Version: 1:1.0~rc1-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I'm trying to inject using aireplay-ng -3, using an rt73 device.

Injection is very slow:
Read 2459 packets (got 673 ARP requests and 0 ACKs), sent 124 packets...(499 pps
Read 3279 packets (got 1041 ARP requests and 0 ACKs), sent 174 packets...(499 pp
Read 4099 packets (got 1432 ARP requests and 0 ACKs), sent 225 packets...(501 pp
Read 4919 packets (got 1840 ARP requests and 0 ACKs), sent 274 packets...(499 pp
Read 5739 packets (got 2210 ARP requests and 0 ACKs), sent 324 packets...(499 pp

As you can see, the progression of the sent values clearly doesn't
match the pps values, and this is confirmed by the number of data
packet I can capture using airodump-ng.

This used to work in the past, and I encountered that problem with 2
different wireless networks, so it's unlikely to be a network problem.

I'm using the rt73 driver from CVS. It fails to work properly both with
the current version, and with a version from 2007-11-10 (a patch to
support 2.6.24+ was added at this date, so I can't check earlier
versions).

Bug#491153: aircrack-ng: very slow injection

Hello Lucas,

You should first try to limit your injection rate with -x. It really
looks like you're to far from the AP.

Try -x 50 first, if sent and pps match, increase value.

Regards, Adam.

void because #461995 took me 1 Minute to fix (well, you can blame me
for not having this done before the removal - the package was just not
on my focus). The other reason few users is probably right considering
popcon, but this as the only reason to remove a package is not enough.
I think upgradebility from Etch to Lenny is a much higher value.
So I ask for reintroducing this package quickly.

I prepared lintian clean packages of the latest version.

Kind regards

Andreas.

Bug#452835: IPv6 in distccd

2008-07-17 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Version: 2.18.3-7.1

Hello,

It seems that there is some IPv6 support in distcc, but it is broken and
renders the program unusable if it is used.

If no bind address is specified using --listen then distccd binds to all
interfaces (IPv4 and IPv6) quite happily. However any connections
coming in over IPv6 are rejected, and the following appears in the
logfile:

distccd[7173] (dcc_check_client) connection from
2404:130:b1ff:1:2d0:59ff:fec0:fba9:42076
distccd[7173] (dcc_check_client) Notice: ipv6 ACLs not implemented

What makes this more confusing is that I don't have any ACLs set, I'm
happy for any and all connections to be accepted.

To make matters worse the distcc client only tries the first IP address
that is returned for a hostname. I have IPv6 and IPv4 address against
all my boxes. So now I need to have the IPv4 addresses for my compile
hosts in DISTCC_HOSTS, not the hostnames.

Cheers!

Bug#490860: webdeveloper: build from source

2008-07-17 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov

Locales are needed and I'd like to provide them again, probably by
 including source files too.

You can replace xpi to this xpi:
http://downloads.chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/web-developer-localized.xpi

I overlooked this xpi, sorry.

I don't like to use CVS-downloads for package building. It increases the
number of build-depends and creates excess necessities of re-building.
However if You think it is necessary You may do it.

Bug#489340: iproute2: no error message when link up command fails.

So the netlink library just treats as a successful return.

Why? This seems like a really bad idea to me, and none of the callers in
iproute benefits from this as far as I can see.

Just ripping out the errno == 0 special casing looks like and option to
me, unless anyone can find a reason for it.

NLMSG_ERROR with errno == 0 is a netlink ACK message.

(It'll give an error message and an error exit code! The message will be
strange, but lets blame the kernel for that cosmetic issue. Atleast the
user got some kind of notification.)

Moving the return 0; inside the if (answer) would be another
(atleast for iproutes callers of the library functions)...

To me it looks like the problem is in the kernel sending back
a NLMSG_ERROR with errno of zero. Some code path isn't setting
it up properly.

None the less, it would be be good if the application wouldn't poop it's
pants when it can be avoided - broken kernel or not.

The fix in this case is to propagate the return value from
dev_change_flags().

rtnetlink: propagate error from dev_change_flags in do_setlink()

Andreas Henriksson [EMAIL PROTECTED] reported that unlike ifconfig,
iproute doesn't report an error when setting an interface up fails.

Propagate the return value from dev_change_flags() to fix this.

Bug#491158: grep: grep -i fails on glibc 2.8

2008-07-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: grep
Version: 2.5.3~dfsg-5
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: ubuntu-patch origin-ubuntu intrepid

Hi,

When building the current grep package on glibc 2.8, the configure
check for glibc's regex will get confused since it does not define
_GNU_SOURCE. As a result, it builds the package with the internal copy
of the regex library, which seems to be seriously broken (e. g. grep
-i does not work any more, see https://launchpad.net/bugs/241990).

I worked around this by explicitly configuring with
--without-included-regex. Upstream should fix their configure test to
define _GNU_SOURCE (and maybe also their internal regex lib), but as a
distribution the configure argument suffices for now.

Please note that this does not directly affect sid/lenny ATM, since we
are frozen with glibc 2.7. However, it is a future trap which we
should avoid altogether in Debian, so please feel free to apply it
right now.

Thanks,

Martin

I call sa-learn in a script, and give it a list of messages that I
know are ham or spam, using -f. Sometimes the list is empty, and to
my surprise sa-learn always reports that it has learned from 1
message.

The problem is that on line 379, sa-learn decides that if its list of
targets is empty, it must be reading a message from stdin. But that's
not true if it's been given an empty list of messages. The attached
patch corrects the error.

Thanks,
Andrew.

Hmm, there might be other changes in the new udev that are needed by
bits of d-i, such as the fix for #488394.

I fixed this one as well (OTOH, the fix may have introduced new bugs).

FYI.

I have tested the new udev in installs for i386, amd64 and armel and not
seen any really strange problems.
There was one bug due to udevd not being cleanly stopped before shutting
down the installer (#490924), but that should be fixed now.

On IRC Marco and I discussed that some files included in the current
version are not needed for D-I [1] and I expect those will be dropped

End result is a nice size reduction compared with the Etch version of
udev-udeb of just under 30kB.

Thanks Marco.

possible bashism in ./usr/share/doc/cyrus-doc-2.2/examples/mboxtocyrus line

Note two things here:

1) This is a _possible_ bashisms. I'm not sure wether it really is one
or not. All instances of [ (aka. test) I tried (bash, tcsh, dash)
supported the syntax used.

2) This is an example script in a doc package, which is unlikely to work
unmodified on any package users system anyway.

Severity important is therefor highly exagerated.

I won't be marking this as wontfix for now, but I intend to do so.

Please check your bug reports before marking them with such a high severity.

Bug#491167: strace depends on libc6-amd64

2008-07-17 Thread Rasmus Bøg Hansen
Package: strace
Version: 4.5.16+cvs20080708-1
Severity: minor

strace pulls in libc6-amd64 on my systems which is useless on most of my
current desktops (Pentium 2 at university, Sempron at work and Athlon XP
at home).

Is this really necessary? I assume the purpose of libc6-amd64 - like
libc6-i686 - is to let owners of the appropriate hardware to be able to
install those packages?

Well, to be honest, it would if I'd use gmail. There are quite some servers
 out there
that use different ports (or IPs differring from the hosts A record) - so
 you'd need to configure
your xmpp client manually (and search for the correct settings) if you'd not
be able to use SRV records

Different IPs is currently already possible, but you are right,
different ports aren't, and it would also ease the configuration a bit.
I talked with upstream developers yesterday (in [EMAIL PROTECTED]
jabber conference room) and they said that they propably get that done
for the next release or such.

And in case you are wondering about other things too, at least franky
from the team said that he would prefer to receive feedback in there
directly than having it through the (manual) Debian BTS proxy. ;)

 So long,

I can confirm this bug on a 64 bit Lenny. However, it only happens with the
new 2.6.25 kernel, when I boot the older 2.6.24 or 2.6.22 kernels on the
exact same system maxima does work as expected. I do not know maxima how
closely interacts with the kernel, the problem might even be in one of its

Bug#489340: iproute2: no error message when link up command fails.

2008-07-17 Thread jamal
On Thu, 2008-17-07 at 02:31 +0200, Andreas Henriksson wrote:

 Why?

Thats just how it rolls.

This seems like a really bad idea to me, and none of the callers in
iproute benefits from this as far as I can see.

The receiver(kernel in this case, but it could be some other user space
user) returning a zero means success. Essentially zero is an (Positive)
ACK.
The receiver returning a non-zero implies a failure. Essentially a
N(egative) ACK.

In the case of a NACK, the kernel must return you the original message
header you sent (similar to the way some icmp messages behave).
The returned error code is a standard errno - if you sent a bad config
you may get an EINVAL back. The sender combines the errno + the header
to figure out what went wrong.

Does that make sense? So the kernel fix is required (as Stephen noted).

cheers,
jamal

Maritn, can you confirm that in full 64-bit mode *and* full 32-bit mode
CLISP correctly builds?

In that case, I guess that CLISP on the third MIPS ABI (a 64-bit kernel
with 32-bit userland) would be an upstream wishlist bug :-)

Hi,

OTOH, in a 2.4.1-6 sid chroot it does not work and Mechtilde tells me
she just installed 2.4.1-6 on a lenny system so it can't be some library

 - I think the closing with 2.4.1-6 was correct.

 Can you confirm?
In a fresh amd64 sid chroot, this xls is opened and shown correctly.
Will 2.4.1-6 propagate soon into testing?

Bug#489900: Cleanup in .orig.tar.gz or debian/rules?

2008-07-17 Thread Kalle Kivimaa
Philipp Matthias Hahn [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
 1. Only in the final debian/jspwiki/ tree (but build with the original
.jar files)
 2. Each time during the debian/rules run
 3. Once in the .orig.tar.gz (the download is only availabe as .zip)

You can either modify the .orig.tar.gz not to include the jars, or,
IMO a better choice, modify the building process to use the Debian
provided jars. I personally prefer keeping the orig.tar.gz as close to
the original as possible (for JSPWiki all the Debian package does is
repackage the zip as a tar.gz).

This process produces a nice and clean build process with the existing
debian/rules file.

the files in lib/ are. I'm not aware of any other Debian package
shipping them also, so is it okay to include them in jspwiki only or do
I need to split them into their own packages?

If you are planning on doing a NMU then you need to split those out
and package them separately. All Debian packages must contain
buildable source for all code, and considering the JSPWiki package
doesn't contain source for the extra libraries, it is far better to
package them separately. If those libraries really aren't included in
Debian, 2.6.3 won't be packaged very soon by me.

Also, if I strip those .jar-files from the .orig.tar.gz, do I still need
to keep their copyright and license-info in debian/copyright?

No.

Bug#491170: brasero never starts data integrity test

2008-07-17 Thread Tamas K Papp
Package: brasero
Version: 0.7.1-3+b1
Severity: normal

When I burn a data DVD/CD with brasero, after the burn is complete,
brasero ejects the disc and gives me the message

A data integrity test is about to begin:
please, insert the disc to check in TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-L532U.

I reinsert the disc, but nothing happens, the dialog box is still
there, waiting.

Hi,

after today's update (2008-07-17) xchat crashes and the culprit seems to be

This is a backtrace (no debug symbols, sorry):

Please note that if I remove xchat-systray then xchat works again.

Should I file also a bug for xchat itself?

Bug#491172: overwrites files in . with the same name as the template being used

If template 'foo' is being used in a directory where ./foo exists,
the argument parsing decides that ./foo must be the message to
rewrite and clobbers it.

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs small tweak, see bellow.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include this change.

Thanks in advance

splashy works for a normal boot.
it also displays during a suspend to disk (hibernate).
But upon resume, the splash screen appears, and there is some disk
activity, but then the resume just stops. I can get no response from the
machine.

It is a Dell D420 notebook with intel graphics.

Bug#491175: distcc: Please allow configuration of number of slots per CPU in Zeroconf patch.

2008-07-17 Thread Rafal Krypa
Package: distcc
Version: 2.18.3-7.1
Severity: wishlist

At the moment, while using Zeroconf patch, distcc will calculate the
concurrency level for compilation (-j option) as sum(n_cpus * 4) for all
discovered hosts.
The number of slots per CPU is hardcoded into Zeroconf patch in the line
11881:

+ if ((ret = dcc_zeroconf_add_hosts(ret_list, ret_nhosts, 4, ret_prev) != 0))

I find this number a little bit to high, it would be nice to allow
configuration of this parameter.

Sorry, I don't really have access to a MIPS box at the moment.
However, you're welcome to close this bug. As I mentioned initially,
it doesn't really matter in Debian.

Bug#489955: ImportError: dynamic module does not define init function (initgtk)

2008-07-17 Thread Manuel Metz

I just stumbled over this bug report...

What this error message is telling you, is that python tries to
import a module called gtk, but can not find it's init method
(something like the main function of a C program), which is called
initgtk. This can happen, if there is somewhere a library called
gtk.so in the python path (even in your private python path), which is
not a python module, or if there is somewhere a copy of _gtk.so, but it
has been renamed to gtk.so.

So, you might want to check that there is no file called gtk.so
anywhere in your python path that erroneously gets imported.

Bug#491176: jspwiki: Contains jars without the source

2008-07-17 Thread Kalle Kivimaa
Package: jspwiki
Version: 2.6.3-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1

Seems that binary jars slipped through when the package was moved
to main from contrib. Will investigate on the best way of including
the source code of those jars which are not yet packaged in Debian
main.

Bug#491179: Provide mnemonics for the upgrade options in the upgrade dialog

2008-07-17 Thread Matt Kraai
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.62.1
Tags: patch

When packages can be upgraded, I usually try a smart upgrade. If that
would remove packages that aren't obsolete (e.g., if a new
architecture-independent package is available but the corresponding
architecture-specific package isn't and they must have the same
version), I try a default upgrade. While there are obviously bigger
improvements that could be made to this workflow, one small but
helpful improvement would be to provide mnemonics for the Default
Upgrade and Smart Upgrade buttons in the upgrade dialog. The attached
patch does so.

I can reproduce this bug. Looks like if a remote server drops the SSL
connection, ssl_esock leaks two sockets. So, if your LDAP server
becomes unavailable for a short time, ssl_esock consumes another few
sockets.

I've asked upstream about this bug and I'm now waiting for their
response. A workaround for now is to kill ssl_esock periodically
(using cron, for example).

I can not reproduce the segfault.

To reproduce it, start tudu without a config file, and then press in
this sequence these 4 keys:

Then it segfaults, perfectly reproducible here every time.

Bug#491180: release-notes: Document the switch of default system log daemon from sysklogd to rsyslog

2008-07-17 Thread Jonas Meurer
Package: release-notes
Severity: normal

Hello,

Recently the default system log daemon was switched from sysklogd+klogd
to rsyslog[1].

I think that this is worth mentioning in the release-notes, even though
it doesn't affect upgrades to lenny but only fresh new installs.

I don't know current practice regarding the documentation of changes of
Debians defaults, but personally I'd prefer to have such changes
documented somewhere at a central place, so I can follow Debians best
practice if I want.
And I don't know any better place than release notes for changes
related to new releases.

greetings
 jonas

Bug#489687: dvb-apps: contains /usr/lib/libdvbapi.a which is also in me-tv

2008-07-17 Thread Ian MacKinnell

I want to support this bug report with additional information.

Besides the conflict message, this bug causes a further problem. Me_tv
should be using files provided by dvbapps to scan for available TV
stations in the user's area when me_tv is first used.

Background:

In order to scan for local TV stations upon first use, me_tv recommends
the obsolete dvb-utils package which contains out-of-date files for use
by (dvb-utils) scan when constructing a valid channels.conf for me_tv.
The correct (up-to-date) files are in dvb-apps, which replaces
dvb-utils, but dvb-apps conflicts with me_tv (as this bug reports).

Example: I tried to scan for Sydney TV stations using me_tv, but I
couldn't find any Seven Network stations (a digital TV in my house can
receive these stations perfectly well). I checked the file used by
(dvb-utils) scan
(/usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/au-Sydney_North_Shore) and
it had a wrong setting for the Seven Network (the value 2/3 should be
3/4). When I checked the equivalent file
(/usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/au-Sydney_North_Shore) in dvb-apps, the setting
for the Seven Network had been corrected. Using the corrected setting
found in dvb-apps, scan and me_tv found all the Seven Network stations
in the Sydney region.

So: me_tv currently relies on an out-of-date package (dvb-utils), and
conflicts with the up-to-date replacement package (dvb-apps). This
results in some stations being incorrectly scanned during first use of
me_tv.

The patch is included in 0.6.7-1 so the bug could be marked fixed for
the version in lenny and sid.

I need to stay on 0.6.4 for some more time because of the clients so I
built 0.6.4-17 with this patch and got partimage running on lenny again

Two more links with the problem description and the patch just for the

Bug#490847: [pkg-nvidia-devel] Bug#490847: nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx init script not removed on uninstall

I recently upgraded my system from an nvidia card needing legacy drivers
to an nvidia card that uses the current drivers. After doing apt-get
remove nvidia* to remove the legacy drivers, and installing the nvidia
drivers through module assistant, I faced a mystery problem where X
would start directly after install but would freeze with a black
 screen before loading after reboot.

I traced the problem to nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx leaving its init script
in /etc/init.d in spite of uninstall, such that after the new nvidia-glx
init script would create symlinks to the proper glx driver, the leftover
legacy script would recreate non-working symlinks that would cause X
loading to fail at GLX initialization.

Config files are left behind on remove. They are removed on purge.
That is normal behaviour. Now perhaps the init script doing anything if
the package is removed is a problem.

To fully remove something either use apt-get remove --purge or use dpkg
--purge

Bug#491182: byacc: CVE-2008-3196: out of bound access

2008-07-17 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: byacc
Severity: grave
Tags: security, patch
Justification: user security hole

Hi

Quoting an email[0] from Jan Lieskovsky about CVE-2008-3196.

Description of problem:
===

Otto Moerbeck has reported the following potential out of bounds of the
allocated stack access in the yacc binary:

Fix an venerable bug: if we're reducing a rule that has an empty
right hand side and the yacc stackpointer is pointing at the very
end of the allocated stack, we end up accessing the stack out of
bounds by the implicit $$ = $1 action. Detected by my new malloc,
experienced by sturm@ on sparc64; ok deraadt@

Public mention of this issue:
=

http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvsm=121553004431393w=2

Proposed OpenBSD patch:
===

http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/usr.bin/yacc/skeleton.c.diff?r1=1.28r2=1.29

When you fix this issue, please mention the CVE id in your changelog and upload
with high urgency, so
the packages reach testing quickly.

Cheers
Steffen

Bug#169948: zope-formulator with no user base in Debian?

2008-07-17 Thread Andreas Tille

It is ok to keep the list as maintainer and me as uploader; just upload the
package and commit it into our common svn repository.

Well, SVN would be fine - but I find only

   http://arch.debian.org/cgi-bin/archzoom.cgi/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would prefer not to learn just another Vcs if there is any chance
to avoid this. I hope not to tip onto the toes of all the arch
fans - I'm just to old to learn another Vcs every second month, but
with some help I might manage. In the Debian Med team we have a
policy document which explain the basic steps very simple. I think
I remember pkg-zope had something similar. Any links?

Kind regards

 Andreas.

BTW, I reopened #169948 as ITP ...
