Bug#1038972: gnome-shell: Gnome Extensions turn off after logout (with errors in gjs)
Package: gnome-shell Version: 43.4-1 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, >From time to time after I login I find that all Gnome extensions are turned off. This probably happens because of errors hapenning in gjs. I have reported the issue to Dash to Dock: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/2050 They believe that it is caused by the issue that was fixed in Gnome 44: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/5560 If it's true, could you please back-port the fix to the version of Gnome used in Debian bookworm? This bug severely affects user experience. -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.0 APT prefers stable-security APT policy: (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-9-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gnome-shell depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.40.0-4 ii gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0 22.08.8-6 ii gir1.2-adw-1 1.2.2-1 ii gir1.2-atk-1.0 2.46.0-5 ii gir1.2-atspi-2.0 2.46.0-5 ii gir1.2-freedesktop 1.74.0-3 ii gir1.2-gcr-3 3.41.1-1+b1 ii gir1.2-gdesktopenums-3.0 43.0-1 ii gir1.2-gdkpixbuf-2.0 2.42.10+dfsg-1+b1 ii gir1.2-gdm-1.0 43.0-3 ii gir1.2-geoclue-2.0 2.6.0-2 ii gir1.2-glib-2.0 1.74.0-3 ii gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-3.042.5-3 ii gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0 43.2-2 ii gir1.2-graphene-1.0 1.10.8-1 ii gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0 1.22.0-2 ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.24.37-2 ii gir1.2-gtk-4.0 4.8.3+ds-2 ii gir1.2-gweather-4.0 4.2.0-2 ii gir1.2-ibus-1.0 1.5.27-5 ii gir1.2-mutter-11 43.4-2 ii gir1.2-nm-1.01.42.4-1 ii gir1.2-nma-1.0 1.10.6-1 ii gir1.2-pango-1.0 1.50.12+ds-1 ii gir1.2-polkit-1.0122-3 ii gir1.2-rsvg-2.0 2.54.5+dfsg-1 ii gir1.2-soup-3.0 3.2.2-2 ii gir1.2-upowerglib-1.00.99.20-2 ii gir1.2-webkit2-4.1 2.40.2-1~deb12u1 ii gnome-backgrounds43.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon43.0-4 ii gnome-shell-common 43.4-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas43.0-1 ii gstreamer1.0-pipewire0.3.65-3 ii libatk-bridge2.0-0 2.46.0-5 ii libatk1.0-0 2.46.0-5 ii libc62.36-9 ii libcairo21.16.0-7 ii libecal-2.0-23.46.4-2 ii libedataserver-1.2-273.46.4-2 ii libgcr-base-3-1 3.41.1-1+b1 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.10+dfsg-1+b1 ii libgirepository-1.0-11.74.0-3 ii libgjs0g 1.74.2-1 ii libgles2 1.6.0-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.74.6-2 ii libglib2.0-bin 2.74.6-2 ii libgnome-autoar-0-0 0.4.3-1 ii libgnome-desktop-3-2043.2-2 ii libgraphene-1.0-01.10.8-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.24.37-2 ii libgtk-4-1 4.8.3+ds-2 ii libical3 3.0.16-1+b1 ii libjson-glib-1.0-0 1.6.6-1 ii libmutter-11-0 43.4-2 ii libnm0 1.42.4-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.50.12+ds-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.50.12+ds-1 ii libpolkit-agent-1-0 122-3 ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0122-3 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 16.1+dfsg1-2+b1 ii libpulse016.1+dfsg1-2+b1 ii libsecret-1-00.20.5-3 ii libsystemd0 252.6-1 ii libwayland-server0 1.21.0-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.4-2+deb12u1 ii libxfixes3

Bug#1038670: firefox-esr: Can't set Firefox as a default mailing application
Package: firefox-esr Version: 102.12.0esr-1~deb12u1 Severity: minor Tags: patch upstream X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, I have selected "Use Gmail" in Firefox Settings -> General -> Applications -> mailto. Then I wanted to assign Firefox as a default mailing app in Default Applications of Gnome settings in order to launch Firefox with Gmail automatically from external apps. However, Firefox wasn't listed among available options for Mail. The reason is probably in the fact that x-scheme-handler/mailto isn't listed in MimeType field of /usr/share/applications/firefox-esr.desktop: MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme- handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https; The man page of xdg-mime says: "The application's desktop file must list support for all the MIME types that it wishes to be the default handler for". So the fix might look as follows: MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme- handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;x-scheme-handler/mailto; As a workaround I had to assign Firefox manually via the configuration file ~/.config/mimeapps.list: [Default Applications] x-scheme-handler/mailto=firefox-esr.desktop Only after this manual intervention Gnome accepted Firefox as a mail app. Reported to Firefox Bugzilla too: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1839244 -- Package-specific info: -- Addons package information -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.0 APT prefers stable-security APT policy: (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-9-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages firefox-esr depends on: ii debianutils 5.7-0.4 ii fontconfig 2.14.1-4 ii libasound2 1.2.8-1+b1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.46.0-5 ii libc62.36-9 ii libcairo-gobject21.16.0-7 ii libcairo21.16.0-7 ii libdbus-1-3 1.14.6-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.112-3 ii libevent-2.1-7 2.1.12-stable-8 ii libffi8 3.4.4-1 ii libfontconfig1 2.14.1-4 ii libfreetype6 2.12.1+dfsg-5 ii libgcc-s112.2.0-14 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.10+dfsg-1+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.74.6-2 ii libgtk-3-0 3.24.37-2 ii libnspr4 2:4.35-1 ii libnss3 2:3.87.1-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.50.12+ds-1 ii libstdc++6 12.2.0-14 ii libvpx7 1.12.0-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.4-2 ii libx11-xcb1 2:1.8.4-2 ii libxcb-shm0 1.15-1 ii libxcb1 1.15-1 ii libxcomposite1 1:0.4.5-1 ii libxdamage1 1:1.1.6-1 ii libxext6 2:1.3.4-1+b1 ii libxfixes3 1:6.0.0-2 ii libxrandr2 2:1.5.2-2+b1 ii libxtst6 2:1.2.3-1.1 ii procps 2:4.0.2-3 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.13.dfsg-1 Versions of packages firefox-esr recommends: ii libavcodec59 7:5.1.3-1 Versions of packages firefox-esr suggests: pn fonts-lmodern pn fonts-stix | otf-stix ii libcanberra0 0.30-10 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.20.1-2 pn pulseaudio -- no debconf information
Bug#1038439: gnome-control-center: Admin password in Date & Time settings is requested prematurely
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:43.4.1-1 Severity: minor X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, When I open Gnome settings in a session of a user that isn't an administrator, it requests the admin password immediately when I go to the Date & Time tab, even before I click the Unlock button. Moreover, if I click Cancel in the password dialog, it appears again one or two times. It becomes even more problematic when I open the Control Center after closing it in a state when the Date & Time tab was active. In this case it asks for the password on its start-up. By the way, after Debian was just installed, the first active tab in the Control Center was Date & Time and I was very surprised when the app prompted for admin password straight ahead on the first run. -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.0 APT prefers stable-security APT policy: (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-9-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gnome-control-center depends on: ii accountsservice 22.08.8-6 ii apg 2.2.3.dfsg.1-5+b2 ii colord1.4.6-2.2 ii desktop-base 12.0.6 ii desktop-file-utils0.26-1 ii gnome-control-center-data 1:43.4.1-1 ii gnome-desktop3-data 43.2-2 ii gnome-settings-daemon 43.0-4 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 43.0-1 ii libaccountsservice0 22.08.8-6 ii libadwaita-1-01.2.2-1 ii libc6 2.36-9 ii libcairo2 1.16.0-7 ii libcolord-gtk4-1 0.3.0-3.1 ii libcolord21.4.6-2.2 ii libcups2 2.4.2-3 ii libepoxy0 1.5.10-1 ii libfontconfig12.14.1-4 ii libgcr-base-3-1 3.41.1-1+b1 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.10+dfsg-1+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.74.6-2 ii libgnome-bg-4-2 43.2-2 ii libgnome-bluetooth-ui-3.0-13 42.5-3 ii libgnome-desktop-4-2 43.2-2 ii libgnome-rr-4-2 43.2-2 ii libgnutls30 3.7.9-2 ii libgoa-1.0-0b 3.46.0-1 ii libgoa-backend-1.0-1 3.46.0-1 ii libgsound01.0.3-2 ii libgtk-3-03.24.37-2 ii libgtk-4-14.8.3+ds-2 ii libgtop-2.0-112.40.0-2 ii libgudev-1.0-0237-2 ii libibus-1.0-5 1.5.27-5 ii libkrb5-3 1.20.1-2 ii libmalcontent-0-0 0.11.0-4 ii libmm-glib0 1.20.4-1 ii libnm01.42.4-1 ii libnma-gtk4-0 1.10.6-1 ii libpango-1.0-01.50.12+ds-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.50.12+ds-1 ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 122-3 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 16.1+dfsg1-2+b1 ii libpulse0 16.1+dfsg1-2+b1 ii libpwquality1 1.4.5-1+b1 ii libsecret-1-0 0.20.5-3 ii libsmbclient 2:4.17.8+dfsg-2 ii libsnapd-glib-2-1 1.63-5 ii libudisks2-0 2.9.4-4 ii libupower-glib3 0.99.20-2 ii libwacom9 2.6.0-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.4-2 ii libxi62:1.8-1+b1 ii libxml2 2.9.14+dfsg-1.2 ii webp-pixbuf-loader0.2.1-1 Versions of packages gnome-control-center recommends: ii cracklib-runtime 2.9.6-5+b1 ii cups-pk-helper0.2.6-1+b1 ii gkbd-capplet 3.28.1-1 ii gnome-bluetooth-sendto42.5-3 ii gnome-online-accounts 3.46.0-1 ii gnome-remote-desktop 43.3-1 ii gnome-user-docs 43.0-2 ii gnome-user-share 43.0-1 ii iso-codes 4.15.0-1 ii libcanberra-pulse 0.30-10 ii libnss-myhostname 252.6-1 ii libspa-0.2-bluetooth 0.3.65-3 ii malcontent-gui0.11.0-4 ii network-manager-gnome 1.30.0-2 ii polkitd 122-3 ii power-profiles-daemon 0.12-1+b1 ii realmd0.17.1-1 ii rygel 0.42.1-1 ii rygel-tracker 0.42.1-1 ii system-config-printer-common 1.5.18-1 Versions of packages gnome-control-center suggests: ii gnome-software 43.4-1 pn gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio ii pkexec 122-3 ii x11-xserver-utils7.7+9+b1 -- no debconf information
Bug#1038411: calamares: Attempt to grow a EFI partition leads to an installation failure
Package: calamares Severity: important Tags: d-i X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, I installed Debian Bookworm from a Gnome live USB stick. The installer complained on an insufficient size of the ESP (200Mb instead of 500). To fix this I scheduled a resize of the ESP via manual partitioning in the installation wizard. No warnings were shown notifying me in advance that this operation cannot be performed. As a result, when I started the installation, the process was interrupted in the middle of file system rearrangements. Workaround: I had to backup, manually remove, recreate the EFI partition with a desired size and restore its content. Expected behavior: Either add support for growing FAT32 EFI partitions, or prevent the user to select unsupported operations before the installation started. Here is the output of the installer: Grow partition ‘/dev/sdb1’ from 260.00 MiB to 515.00 MiB Job: Check file system on partition ‘/dev/sdb1’ Command: fsck.fat -a -w -v /dev/sdb1 Job: Set geometry of partition ‘/dev/sdb1’: Start sector: 2,048, length: 1,054,720 Command: sfdisk --force /dev/sdb -N 1 Job: Resize file system on partition ‘/dev/sdb1’ to 1,054,720 sectors Resizing file system from 532,480 to 1,054,720 sectors. Bug#610155: xdg-utils: fails to disable gnome-screensaver
Pelle, I tried gnome-screensaver-command --poke during playback. It does not help. I am not 100% sure about xdg-screensaver and VLC. But I tried to discuss it at VLC forum http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=94579 . I have Mageia installed on same laptop. VLC works fine there in same configuration. The differences between Mageia and Debian installations are: -VLC is 1.1.11 in Mageia and 1.1.3 in Debian. Not a big difference I think. -Command xdg-screensaver status returns "enabled" in Debian vs "disabled" in Mageia in freshly booted system. You see, there is high probability that xdg-screensaver is actually used by VLC and it is xdg-screensaver to cause the issue. Now the question: why is it enabled in Debian and disabled in Mageia? I have not found a way to disable it in Debian for a more equal test. Bug#610155: xdg-utils: fails to disable gnome-screensaver
Debian Squeeze command gnome-screensaver --poke proposed by Joshem Kossem return that --poke is unknown parameter. I still experience same issue with VLC playing videos on full or part screen. Screensaver is automatically called up. Same video in Totem movie player works fine without screensaver being called. *Dmitry*
