Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed everything from desktop
Thank you Michael, When I try to bring in gnome-tweak-tool with apt-get, it brings in a lot of gnome 3 packages as well, like gnome-shell (even though I've pinned gnome to 2.30). My sources.list points to wheezy but I tried adding in some snapshot.debian terms for August 2011, to no avail. I would think this configuration item would exist in a text file under /etc. Is there a way to access it directly, without gnome-tweak-tool? Changing to gnome 3 is a big decision and I wouldn't want to do that just in order to solve this issue. thanks, --jack --- On Mon, 11/28/11, Michael Biebl wrote: > From: Michael Biebl > Subject: Re: Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed > everything from desktop > To: "JS" , 648...@bugs.debian.org > Date: Monday, November 28, 2011, 6:11 PM > On 28.11.2011 23:49, JS wrote: > > Thank you Josselin, > > > > Can you point me to somewhere that explains > how/whether I can restore > > the earlier behavior in this version of nautilus? Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed everything from desktop
Thank you Josselin, Can you point me to somewhere that explains how/whether I can restore the earlier behavior in this version of nautilus? The right click menu on the desktop is really useful for me. I've googled a number of terms and the yelp page doesn't seem to mention this. I didn't want to install gnome-tweak-tool unless absolutely necessary as it pulls in many other packages that would make it more difficult to roll back to the earlier nautilus, if necessary. I will try adding a nautilus --no-default-window --sm-client-id when I get a chance, if you think this is the cause. thanks, --jack --- On Mon, 11/28/11, Josselin Mouette wrote: > From: Josselin Mouette > Subject: Re: Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed > everything from desktop > To: "JS" , 648...@bugs.debian.org > Date: Monday, November 28, 2011, 5:10 PM > Le dimanche 27 novembre 2011 à 19:25 > -0800, JS a écrit : > > Are these changes in nautilus 3.0 or was some default > configuration removed > > that allowed them to work as in 2.30? > > The default configuration has changed. > > -- > .''`. Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed everything from desktop
I'm running Wheezy and just upgraded from nautilus 2.30.1-3 to nautilus 3.0.2-4. After this upgrade I saw that: 1. items in ~/Desktop no longer appear as icons on my root window 2. the nautilus Scripts menu, including the items in: ~/.gconf2/nautilus-scripts no longer appears with a right click on the root window of my gnome 2.30+11 desktop, although it does appear in nautilus windows. 3. mounting removable media no longer displays a desktop icon from which one can launch a nautilus window to browse the contents although the file system is properly mounted (via udev). Although this data and info is still available, it is not gotten as conveniently as before, particularly #2. Are these changes in nautilus 3.0 or was some default configuration removed that allowed them to work as in 2.30? thanks, --jack -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". If my data is not where I put it, and I am unable to find it in order to complete tasks, then it is GONE. And since I am unable to find the personal data that you so blithely assume the upgrade did not wipe out, stop abusing my intelligence. Package: nautilus Version: 3.0.2-4 Severity: critical Tags: sid Justification: causes serious data loss All desktop links are gone, including many menu choices in "System." Some have been found by explicitly invoking nautilus, but am unable to determine if all desktop items are preserved in another location. Unable to determine if hal is mounting/unmounting removable media correctly. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages nautilus depends on: ii desktop-file-utils 0.15-2 Utilities for .desktop files ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 3.0.1-1 GSettings deskop-wide schemas ii gvfs1.6.4-3 userspace virtual filesystem - ser ii libatk1.0-0 2.2.0-2 ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.13-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo-gobject2 1.10.2-6.1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcairo2 1.10.2-6.1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libexempi3 2.1.1-1 library to parse XMP metadata (Lib ii libexif12 0.6.20-1 library to parse EXIF files ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.4.7-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgail-3-0 3.0.12-2 GNOME Accessibility Implementation ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.24.0-1 GDK Pixbuf library ii libglib2.0-02.28.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglib2.0-data 2.28.8-1 Common files for GLib library ii libgnome-desktop-3-03.0.2-2 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgtk-3-0 3.0.12-2 GTK+ graphical user interface libr ii libnautilus-extension1a 3.0.2-4 libraries for nautilus components ii libnotify4 0.7.4-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libpango1.0-0 1.29.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libselinux1 2.1.0-4 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii libx11-62:1.4.4-4X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-5 GNOME XML library ii nautilus-data 3.0.2-4 data files for nautilus ii shared-mime-info0.90-1 FreeDesktop.org shared MIME databa Versions of packages nautilus recommends: ii app-install-dat 2010.11.17 Application Installer Data Files ii brasero 3.0.0-4 CD/DVD burning application for GNO ii consolekit 0.4.5-1 framework for defining and trackin ii desktop-base6.0.7common files for the Debian Deskto ii eject 2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-8 ejects CDs and operates CD-Changer ii gvfs-backends 1.6.4-3 userspace virtual filesystem - bac ii librsvg2-common 2.34.1-3 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii synaptic0.75.3 Graphical package manager Versions of packages nautilus suggests: ii eog 3.0.2-2Eye of GNOME graphics viewer progr ii evince [pdf-viewer] 3.2.1-1Document (PostScript, PDF) viewer ii gv [pdf-viewer] 1:3.7.2-2 PostScript and PDF viewer for X ii totem 3.0.1-3Simple media player for the GNOME pn tracker(no description available) pn xdg-user-dirs (no description available) -- no debconf information -- sc...@ingram.bz http://Scott.Ingram.bz Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
