Bug#505405: [dsc] debianization of the dsc-collector

2010-09-21 Thread Marc Haber
retitle 505405 ITP: dsc - libcap based DNS statistics collector

I have packaged dsc for a project of a customer of mine, and a
colleague and me are prepared to maintain dsc for Debian in the
future. We will be ready to upload by mid October 2010.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#597566: clamav-getfiles: Fails to create package with multiple perl undefined reference errors

I'll check that, earliest next week. Release team, please pull
clamav-getfiles form squeeze in the mean time.

clamav-data in volatile died when volatile went under new "official"
owners. Sorry about that, and also sorry to see my own work going down
the drain.

Yes. Please complain to ftpmaster who believe that noone uses
clamav-data anyway.

Bug#571807: upstream: enhancements about folding long lines

2010-02-27 Thread Marc Haber
Package: less
Version: 436-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hi,

this is an upstream issue, but I didn't find any way on
greenwoodsoftware.com/less/index.html to add new items to the
enhancement list which is posted there. I hope that you know how to
file upstream bugs and would be so kind to forward this suggestion
upstream.

I would like less's fold long lines code to adopt the following new
options:

(1)
An option to cause folding to happen at the last whitespace that would
still fit in the previous line, avoiding folding to happen in the
middle of a word. This would be a new option (--fold-at-whitespace?) with
the default off

(2)
An option to make the non-first lines of a folded input lines not
start at screen column n instead of the first screen column, causing
an indent of the following lines. That way, one could for example less
through a syslog with folded lines with a display like this:
Feb 28 08:32:44 swivel named[19227]: success resolving 'www.l.google.com/'
(in 'google.com'?) after reducing the advertised EDNS UDP
   packet size to 512 octets
Feb 28 08:35:01 swivel /USR/SBIN/CRON[10907]: (root) CMD (if [ -x
   /etc/munin/plugins/apt_all ]; then
   /etc/munin/plugins/apt_all update 7200 12 >/dev/null;
elif
   [ -x /etc/munin/plugins/apt ]; then
/etc/munin/plugins/apt
   update 7200 12 >/dev/null; fi)
Feb 28 08:35:01 swivel /USR/SBIN/CRON[10908]: (munin) CMD (if
   [ -x /usr/local/bin/munin-cron ]; then
   /usr/local/bin/munin-cron; fi)
Feb 28 08:35:46 swivel named[19227]: success resolving 'www.l.google.com/'
   (in 'google.com'?) after disabling EDNS
Feb 28 08:36:12 swivel named[19227]: success resolving 'www.l.google.com/'
(in 'google.com'?) after reducing the advertised EDNS UDP
   packet size to 512 octets

This would greatly enhance the readability.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#572785: debian-installer: bnx firmware image

2010-03-06 Thread Marc Haber
Package: debian-installer
Version: daily 2010-03-06
Severity: normal

Hi,

when trying to install Debian from today's squeeze daily image on a hp
ProLiant DL385G6, there are multiple images with the network interfaces,
which are bnx2. It needs bnx2-mips-09-5.0.0.j3.fw and
bnx2-rv2p-09.5.0.0.j3.fw, and I had to bring them to the system in
question on an USB stick.

- bnx2-mips-09-5.0.0.j3.fw files is is only found if in a bnx2/ subdirectory.
- If found, it is placed into /lib/firmware
- the driver expects it in /lib/firmware/bnx2 though
- /lib/firmware/bnx2 is deleted during the "search for firmware" process
- I therefore had to resort to while sleep 1; do mv
  /lib/firmware/bnx2-mips-09-5.0.0.j3.fw /lib/firmware/bnx; done
  to get any further
- bnx2-rv2p-09.5.0.0.j3.fw is not found at all (not in / and not bnx2/)
- Copying the file to /lib/firmware/bnx2 manually worked

Afterwards, the installer thought that DHCP configuration failed
although there was an IP on the first interface afterwards. Repeat of
the DHCP configuration made the installer notice that it was
successful. I suspect that the DHCP process times out just in time to
be successful without the installer noticing because the box in
questions has 4 interfaces.

Greetings
Marc

The 2.6.32 flavour used by today's daily image boots and installs
fine, modulo the firmware issues I reported in a different report.

Bug#572787: debian-installer: 64bit install hangs after "Booting the kernel"

2010-03-06 Thread Marc Haber
Package: debian-installer
Version: daily image 2010-03-06
Severity: normal

Hi,

a hp ProLiant DL385 G6 does not boot the daily installer image in
64bit mode. The box is a Dual Six-Core Opteron with 80 Gig of RAM.

Trying a 64 bit expert install, vga=normal is needed to get output at
all. The following results have been obtained with vga=normal
console=ttyS0 and all permutations of "edd=off" and "nosmp" on the
command line. All results have been the same.

Vmlinuz and initrd are loaded just fine, the line of dots after initrd
load ends with "ready." This can be seen both on the system console
and on the serial console.

Afterwards, the serial console screen is blanked (and stays blank);
the system console moves its cursor up left without clearing the
screen. I then see "Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... Done" with
the dotline written by the initrd load being back after the "Done."
Then the next line is overwritten with "Booting the kernel.y." with
the "y." being the remainder of the "ready."

With this display, the system stops dead in its tracks with a blinking
red error LED:

Installing 32bit Debian works just fine.

Greetings
Marc

I had them as two loose .fw files, as the installation instructions
suggest that this was going to work. I didn't dare using the deb
although ...

That's sad since that's where the drivers seem to expect them.

The subdir doesn't disappear, it is emptied. Sorry for the misleading
wording.

Attached.

I did this while installing a 32bit install in parallel to the
existing 64bit install, which behaved identically.

Sadly, the system is only a test installation; the boxes are going to
be used as ESX hosts.

I fear that file-rc's incompatibility with Debian's current default
init scheme is starting to become release critical, regardless of
policy or not. See "die normative Kraft des Faktischen".

It is clear that pere is not going to change his package to accomodate
file-rc in its current form, and his way of doing things is the
default. So, I guess that file-rc is either dead, or it will adapt.
Please take that decision, so that your users know what to do in time
for squeeze.

Bug#525150: No input possible at startup with encrypted filesystems

Unfortunately, too many people don't use encrypted filesystems, one
reason for this being that a lot of system tools don't properly
support this.

Encryption is good, we should support and encourage it. Our installer
offers to install encryption, so it is available to even clueless
users. Please consider poking upstream to finally implement some way

It has been there since april 2009, and no visible development
happened in splashy since then.

Where is splashy going for Debian squeeze?

Hi,

I tried the patch from
https://savannah.gnu.org/support/download.php?file_id=19772

The fil can simply be dumped into debian/patches, the patch is then
applied automatically (and does apply cleanly). The resulting grub can
get a GRUB_TERMINAL='serial console' in /etc/default/grub and shows
the menu on both real and serial console. It is useable on both
consoles.

Please apply this patch in time for squeeze, it would really be a
shame not to have this functionality in Debian squeeze. It is
important for datacenter use.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#572916: nagios-plugins: please package check_multi

2010-03-07 Thread Marc Haber
Package: nagios-plugins
Version: 1.4.14-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I would love to see the check_multi plugin
(http://www.my-plugin.de/wiki/projects/check_multi/start) in Debian.
As you would prefer to have it included with nagios-plugins, it is
probably necessary to first convert nagios-plugins to source format
3.0 with multiple upstream tarballs, and then to add check_multi.

check_multi itself doesn't have that many dependencies, so it would
probably be able to go in the nagios-plugins-basic package.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#505405: First version of dsc pushed to alioth git

Hi,

I have just pushed the first releasable version of dsc-statistics to
Alioth's git repository, avaliable on

https://alioth.debian.org/scm/browser.php?group_id=100554
git clone https://alioth.debian.org/anonscm/git/dsc/dsc.git

If you want to try it out, go ahead. We're still missing some perl
modules which is the cause for not having uploaded to unstable yet.
I'll work on it in the next few days.

As stated MULTIPLE TIMES on IRC, the host running the nagios plugin is
whitelisted with the MTA and is not subject to the delays that you
encounter when testing from a non-whitelisted host.

I offered you on IRC multiple times to whitelist your IP as well but
you didn't react to that offer.

Bug#608714: nagios-plugins: smtp plugin gives incomplete debugging output

2011-01-02 Thread Marc Haber
Package: nagios-plugins
Severity: normal

$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_smtp --verbose -H ivanova.notwork.de
HELOCMD: HELO scyh00167
220 ivanova.notwork.de ESMTP Exim 4.72 Sun, 02 Jan 2011 23:37:22 +0100
sent QUIT
received 221 ivanova.notwork.de closing connection

SMTP OK - 0.074 sec. response time, 221 ivanova.notwork.de closing
connection
|time=0.074478s;;;0.00

This debugging output either suggests that no HELO is sent at all, or
HELO is sent without waiting for the initial 220 prompt.

Using strace or wireshark reveals that the plugin is actually talking
proper SMTP on the wire while giving incomplete debug output while
printing extra information that is not part of the actual SMTP dialog.

Hi,

I would love to have an option that would make adduser assign the same

Please consider implementing this.

I haven't had that type of crash for a long time, but I have switched
back to desktop cube for the time being. I have switched hardware in
the mean time though, my new notebook has
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400

The RV350 I had reported this issue a year ago is gone and won't return.

If you don't hear from me in two weeks of time, go ahead and close the
bug.

Nearly. It's another dm-crypt encrypted device which contains part of
the key, which needs to be unlocked before the keyscript that is used
to unlock the root fs can build the key for the root fs.

> If this is just about additional dm-crypt devices, which should be

This additional dm-crypt device needs to be successfully unlocked
before the unlock process for the root and suspend devices can start.
Order is important because before the additional device isn't open,
there ain't a complete key to unlock root.

This works for me. That's what I did on a squeeze system with i686
architecture:

create test file with dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=65536 count=4
run aide
change test file by appending a few characters
run aide

Everything worked as expected.

Also, please explain the d-i tag.

Because the cryptsetup initramfs tools do a very good job interacting

Thomas is talking about unattended installation of an obscene number
of servers, so "getting a choice" is not the intended behavior.

I guess that he would prefer to have USB block devices treated with
lower (lowest?) precedence over "real" storage devices, which
can/should avoid a prompt which may be undesireable during an unaended
install.

So you would basically want the installer to rename the interfaces so
that the interface that the system booted from (as given as BOOTIF
kernel command line parameter) is eth0 in the freshly installed
system?

Maybe it would be a good idea not to have this enabled by default, but
for example by a new command line parameter eth0= with the
special case of eth0=bootif which would make sure that eth0 is the PXE
device?

Are there any docs for netcfg? After a cursory glance at the source
package, it looks like the docs are contained in those nice .c and .h
files with a little too little documentation about the interfaces.

I guess the following changes do kind of a job:
etc/udev/rules.d/69-bootif.rules (inside the installer's initrd)
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="net", IMPORT{program}="bootif $attr{address}"

lib/udev/bootif (inside the installer's initrd)
#!/bin/sh

bootif="$(< /proc/cmdline sed 's/.*[[:space:]]BOOTIF=\([-0-9A-Fa-f]\+\).*/\1/'
| tr '[A-F-]' '[a-f:]')"

if [ "01:$1" = "$bootif" ]; then
  echo INTERFACE_NAME=eth0
fi

Unfortunately, this seems to go a little too far. My test system comes
up with the second interface being the bootif, so it's eth1 without
these additions. With my additions, the following numbering happens:

MAC Addresswithout additionswith additions
 Aeth0 eth4
 Beth1 eth0
 Ceth2 eth3
 Deth3 eth5

The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules that is being generated
has the first interface found twice:

ATTR{address} NAME with additions
 Ceth2
 Ceth3
 Beth0
 Aeth4
 Deth5

I guess there may be a race going on. Is there any possibility to have
bootif honored without generating a broken 70-persistent-net.rules and
with still having the interfaces numbered consecutively?

This seems to be the fault of the additional rule which gives the
impression that the rule is actually doing something. Even when I
replace the bootif script with a call to true, I get multiple stanzas
per interface in 70-persistent-net.rules.

Do I need to say in the 69-bootif.rules that this should be treated as
a no-op rule?

Did you try with a multiprocessor VM? I guess that this is some
threading/multiprocessing issue that multiple interfaces get processed
at the same time, causing races.

I do this for my personal servers as well, but for the default
install, I'd rather follow the principle of least surprise for the
other admins that will use the servers deployed by me.

So it would really be nice to have ethx, starting at eth0 being the
right interfaces, with the other interfaces being consecutively
numbered as ethx.

My rule hasn't, but it shouldn't do anything if the script is silent,
should it?

So my script should print INTERFACE_NAME="foo0" to its standard output
if invoked for an interface that is eth0 and not the boot interface?
And who is responsible to rename it back into the ethx namespace?

Just to check whether I am understanding correctly: 1 MB +/- 0.5 MB is
something in between 0.5 MB and 1.5 MB, right?

If so, I'd like to claim that 63 sectors is well outside that interval.

And it is misaligned, which imposes a significant performance penalty
on many of today's disks.

Is this really the intention?

Bug#696862: does not build on squeeze

2012-12-28 Thread Marc Haber
Source: ruby-ffi
Version: 1.0.11debian-5
Severity: minor

Hi

This is a backporting issue, and hence not important, hence severity
minor. I would appreciate help anyway.

I am trying to backport ruby-ffi to squeeze. However, this does not
work too well, as ruby packages are entangled to each other. I first
backported ruby 1.9.1 from sid to squeeze, and then proceeded to
install the following packages from sid on squeeze, which worked
without having to force dependencies:

gem2deb_0.3.0_all.deb
ruby-diff-lcs_1.1.3-1_all.deb
ruby-rspec-core_2.10.1-2_all.deb
ruby-rspec-expectations_2.10.0-2_all.deb
ruby-rspec-mocks_2.10.1-2_all.deb
ruby-rspec_2.10.0-2_all.deb
rubygems_1.8.24-1_all.deb

When trying to build ruby-ffi after this, build fails due to some
weird issue in ruby 1.8 (which is neither a backported nor a
distribution mismatched package, but the original from squeeze):

Creating /home/foo will break in the case of an nfs mounted /home, and
other packages are going out of wheezy for using adduser's --system
default.

But being rc buggy just for using --system is not friendly either.

A first step could be to have adduser --system spew a warning in this
case. Maintainers should notice that when testing packages before
upload. Additionally, there could be a lintian check for that.

This course of action has numerous precedences.

Bug#696244: console freezes when switching back to tty7 after X started and plymouth was used

2012-12-18 Thread Marc Haber
Package: plymouth-drm
Version: 0.8.8-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

this is a bug that I suspect is in plymouth, but could as well be in
the kernel or in X. I describe the issue here, please reassign to
kernel or X if appropriate.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) boot Debian sid with Debian kernel and "quiet splash" on the
command line

(2) See Debian boot with plymouth solar theme

(3) Wait until display manager comes up

(4) Switch to tty1 using Ctrl-Alt-F1

(5) See a working KMS "text" console

(6) Switch to tty7 using Ctrl-F7

(7) See cursor vanishing and tty1 still displayed

>From this point, the console is unuseable. Even Magic SysRq does not
work any more. However, the machine remains on the network and can be
shutdown over ssh without problems.

Repeating the same without "splash" on the kernel command line,
therefore not using the plymouth splash screen, makes switching back
to X successful.

The hardware is a ThinkPad T520 with a Core i7 processor, using the
Core Processor Family IGC:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd
Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller
[8086:0126] (rev 09)

The machine is equipped with nVidia Optimus as well, but this is not
being used, and neither the proprietary nVidia driver nor any open
source alternative such as bumblebee are installed.

I can also reproduce this with a vanilla 3.7.1 kernel and I suspect
that this applies to all other kernel versions between 3.2 and 3.7 as
well.

If additional information is necessary, I'll try to deliver it.

Greetings
Marc

What's the status for that? Is that minor update there now?

I am a DD and can sponsor your upload to unstable. If you want me to

Bug#688511: better support for multiple routing tables

2012-09-23 Thread Marc Haber
Package: aiccu
Version: 20070115-15.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

On my home router, I have an OpenVPN tunnel to one of my servers with
native IPv6, and would also like to have a SixXS tunnel as backup to
be able to reach home even when my own IPv6 setup is crippled.

To do so, I would like to use a setup like this, which I use
successfully on routers which have multiple IPv6 uplinks:

- have no IPv6 default route in the main routing table
- have one additional routing table per uplink (in my case, a "sixxs"
and a "openvpn" table), which only hold a single default route,
  pointing to the respective gateway
- ip -6 rule add sixxs-prefix table sixxs pref 32769
- ip -6 rule add openvpn-prefix table openvpn pref 32770

Currently, I can choose whether I want to have a default route set by
aiccu into my main routing table, where it would break the openvpn
tunnel, or no default route at all, setting it manually via a
setupscript.

Please consider (as alternatives)

(1)
adapting the syntax so that "defaultroute tablename" becomes a valid
configuration option, causing the default route to be written in the
named table. That way, "true" and "false" cannot be used as table
name, but I guess that would be OK.

(2)
making the IP address of the gateway available in setuptscript's
environment so that there is no need to hard-code the IP address there

(3)
running the setupscript parameter through a shell to make constructs
like "setupscript ifup sixxs" or "setupscript foo parameter" possible

(4)
Add a unsetupscript option to have a script executed when aiccu takes
a tunnel down to undo things introduced by the setupscript option

(5)
add a routingtable option to cause aiccu to make all its changes to a
special routingable

Thanks in advance!

Greetings
Marc

I would be willing to spend some time on the package. Since I am
maintaining PowerDNS, which has an OpenDBX backend, this would be
useful for me.

I would suggest using a git repository on collab-maint, with the
packages.qa.debian.org mail address used as maintainer address for the
second and following uploads to distribute maintainer mail via the
PTS.

I have created the opendbx repository on git.debian.org. You can clone
from the (empty) and push to the repository from
git+ssh://@git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/opendbx

Or did you also never push a new package to a git repository? If you
don't have experience doing this, I can do it for you as well.

Discarding packet received on eth0 interface that has no IPv4 address assigned.

It is perfectly OK to have the only IP address on an Interface
labeled. dhcrelay does seem to explicitly check for that and to bail
if no unlabeled IP address is found. I think that behavior is wrong,
dhcrelay should just use a labeled IP address as if it were unlabeled.

The eth0:foo interface is working perfectly fine IP-wise; I actually
sshed in to the VM through that interface to be able to cut&paste the
typescript to this mail.

Please note that this is eth0:foo, not eth0.foo. The period notation
is not a label, it is an alias. I think _this_ works, the misbehavior
happens when a label (colon notation) is used.

Greetings
Marc

I reckoned so. This is, however, a regression from older versions of
bash since this worked earlier. Is there any way to revert to the old
behavior?

The last diff --git is already the beginning of the next patch.

Alternatively, I am not yet awake. Please enlighten me in this case.

This is http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/2503

So you're suggesting to add
CONSTRAINT c_lowercase_name CHECK (((name)::text = lower((name)::text)))
to the CREATE TABLE statement in debian/sql/pgsql/pgsql inside the
source package, right?

You're likely to have more PostgreSQL foo than me, are there other
changes that you sugges doing? Is Debian's PostgreSQL schema correct
for dnssec? Did we miss changes that Upstream did between 2.9 and 3.1?

Is this README still relevant in the first place? Doesn't the package
create the database automatically on installation?

The README.Debian in the backend-mysql package surely is outdated and
can be removed. I would like to do the same with README.Debian in
backend-pgsql.

I added the command to build the binaries to debian/rules, that is
probably easier for upstream.

Is it possible that you write man pages for those binaries to that I
don't end up with "binary without manpage" lintian warnings? Those
manpages could also go upstream.

Bug#687075: generated package depends on unavailable libav{codec,format}52

2012-09-09 Thread Marc Haber
Package: java-package

Severity: important

Hi,

the packages generated from jre-7u7-linux-x64.tar.gz depend on
libav{codec,format}52 which are not available in Debian wheezy/sid.
When building, the build process spews gazillions of "do this to avoid
unnecessary depends on libfoo", and indeed, /usr/bin/java does not
seem to dynamically link to libav{codec,format}52.

I guess there is something wrong. Please advise.

I really appreciate that. Did you already submit them upstream for
proofreading / inclusion into the package? I guess that upstream would
love additional Makefile.am patches that would also have the man pages
installed on make install .

Maybe it would be a good idea to fork pdns on github and to build
patches that upstream can pull from there? Peter works a lot with
github.

man -l dnswasher.8 > /dev/null

will give you any parsing errors that may arise.

Regarding layout, the pdns upstream sources contain man pages in the
pdns/docs subdirectory. I guess that new man pages that orient
themselves along these have a pretty good chance of being accepted
upstream.

I have the same issue, two and a half months later, and I find this

Is there any reason for letting this issue rot away in the BTS?

This wouldn't solve the issue at all. Please document that debuild
options cannot be set through gbp without also using a --git-builder

Bug#575080: sysv-rc: wrong shutdown links generated after conversion from file-rc

2010-03-23 Thread Marc Haber
Package: sysv-rc
Version: 2.87dsf-8.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have recently converted a rather old system which has been using
file-rc for years to the dependency-based sysv-rc. Since then, my
filesystems are not umounted any more on shutdown, replaying all
journals on startup.

The only related links I see in rc[06].d are S01umountfs
S01umountnfs.sh S01umountroot, but it looks like they are not
executed. On closer inspection, it looks like there is other breakage
there as well.

Does sysv-rc have a possibility to completely recalculate the run
level link farm directories? How do I fix this?

Greetings

Bug#575501: initramfs-tools: radeon.ko not included into initrd

2010-03-26 Thread Marc Haber
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: wishlist

This may not be a genuine bug, but maybe an understanding problem that
I have not been able to solve in other media.

I have two systems that are supposed to use KMS. One is working fine,
having an i915 graphics chip. On this system, i915.ko is copied into
the initramfs, and autoloaded if video=i915:modeset=1 is given on the
kernel command line.

The second one has an
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M56GL [Mobility FireGL
V5200]
and is not working properly. I understand that radeon.ko needs to be
in the initrd for early loading to work, and this doesn't happen, and
I am at a loss to explain why this doesn happen.

For what it's worth, I didn't find any configuration that explicitly
causes the i915.ko to be included in the initramfs on the Intel
system, so I couldn't reproduce this configuration for radeon on the
other box.

Who is responsible to include the intel module into the initramfs on
the Intel box, and who should change what to do the same for radeon?

Greetings
Marc

I see. So there is no KMS for radeon at this time?

Is there a bug report about that for reference?

< /boot/inird.img-2.6.33-zgws1 gunzip | cpio -i leads to a directory
tree which includes a file lib/modules/*/i915.ko. This I clearly
remember.

This doesn't seem to work here, as the modeset-parameter never gets
its way to the module, despite /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf saying
"options radeon modeset=1".

Also, in my understanding, if I want a splashscreen to be shown, the
graphics driver moduled needs to be loaded early, right?

Are the directfb-based splash screens such as splahy compatible with
KMS in the first place?

What are you trying to say? You need to be a little bit more verbose
to be actually helpful.

As far as I remember, I installed sysv-rc and sysv-rc-conf and removed
(purged?) file-rc in the same aptitude run. I might have inspected
(changed?) the runlevel stuff with sysv-rc-conf, I don't remember.

No, I don't have that file.

I did that before filing this bug.

This looks better now, see attachment. I still don't know what went wrong
here though.

Bug#559619: /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools should ignore errors from update-initramfs -d

2009-12-05 Thread Marc Haber
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4

Hi,

/etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools exists with an error if
update-initramfs -d returns with an error. This could happen if one
tries to purge a kernel image wihch has its initramfs already removed.

Please consider adding a || true to the update-initramfs call in the
script or to only invoke update-initramfs if the initrd.img is still
there.

Greetings

What exactly would that do? I would like to have global _and_ local
variables, and my include statements are usually including entire
directories. In my understanding, {} around the include statement
would put variables from all files included into the same namespace
("all global"), which helps, but is not fully what I intended.

Please add an option which will not delete the build chroot after

I would have imagined that it would be easier than having a separate

Bug#577279: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: no synaptics functionality after sid update

2010-04-11 Thread Marc Haber
Hi again,

I have removed things from my xorg.conf, diabled the udev and fdi
rule, and have established a new file in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics. Now, synclient -l gives a new error
message, "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver
loaded?" The xorg.log suggests, however, that the synaptics touchpad
is correctly detected.

I am attaching my "new" xorg.conf, the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics, and the xorg.log.

Greetings

Bug#568111: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: no KDE4 compositing/desktop effects after suspend-to-disk

2010-04-12 Thread Marc Haber

No. With radeon.modeset=1, my system crashes immediately on boot (see
kernel bugzilla #15736), therefore I cannot try with KMS enabled.

Additionally, current KDE doesn't allow desktop effects to be enabled
with current X, falls back to "Compositing disabled" immediately
without giving meaningful log entries. I'm filing a new bug to this
matter.

Feel free to close this bug.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#525687: ferm: please add a hook which gets executed while configuration is read

I have understood now. This hook should be different. The use of the
hook I outlined in the first bug report is addressed by @include now
being able to execute commands, but this hook (@now) could probably be
used to generate debug output during ferm run, or for other advanced
things.

Please consider implementing it nevertheless.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#577695: ferm: please allow variable expansion in backtick expression

2010-04-13 Thread Marc Haber
Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.7-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it is documented that variable expansion ins not used in backtick
expression. This precludes constructions like

@def $filename=`basename $FILENAME`;

Please consider allowing constructions like that.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#577696: ferm: @include "foo|" does not allow shell escapes

2010-04-13 Thread Marc Haber
Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.7-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

@include "echo @def \\$filename=$FILENAME|"

ina ferm file results in

Error in echo @def \\=scys00592/scys00592.conf.d/Z71-forward| line 1:
@def = <-- "$" (variable) or "&" (function) expected

I guess that this fault is caused by \ not acting as an escape
character in the include expression. Writing a single backslash
doesn't work either.

Final goal is having the path removed from $FILENAME.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#577697: ferm: please document that @include "foo|" uses a shell

2010-04-13 Thread Marc Haber
Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.7-1
Severity: minor

Please document in the man page that @include "foo|" uses a shell to
invoke foo. In other places, for example in the backtics docs, it is
explicitly mentioned that a shell is used.

Bug#577701: ferm: what does %TRUSTED_HOSTS mean?

2010-04-13 Thread Marc Haber
Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.7-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

the manpage, in the chapter "Parameters", there is mention of
%TRUSTED_HOSTS. This is either undocumented (% doesn't appear in any
other place in the manpage), or a typo, meaning $TRUSTED_HOSTS.

Greetings
Marc
