Bug#559513: plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend cpufrequtils

2009-12-04 Thread Georg Wittenburg
Package: plasma-widgets-workspace
Version: 4:4.3.2-2
Severity: normal

The power management plasmoid contained in plasma-widgets-workspace has the
ability to switch between supported CPU policies (More... - Capabilities).
However, this requires that the relevant kernel modules that implement these
policies are loaded; otherwise no CPU policies are available. Loading the
relevant kernel modules is the job of the cpufrequtils package. Hence,
plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend the cpufrequtils package to the user
when being installed.

Bug#488398: konqueror: Please package recent version of konq-plugins

2008-06-28 Thread Georg Wittenburg
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.0.82+svn819867-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I recently filed a bug over at KDE, saying that the search engine
toolbar is missing from Konqueror in KDE4
(http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165206). The feedback was the this
feature is still available and that it's up to the distro to package it.
Checking for available versions of konq-plugins, I found only 3.5.9, but
nothing from the 4.x series. So please package a recent version of
konq-plugins.

Thanks!

I've had this problem as well since upgrading to 3.5.1 with KNemo and the

Bug#348418: kdebase: kde*-3.5.0-4 Packages Break Device Icons on Desktop

2006-01-16 Thread Georg Wittenburg
Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.5.0-4
Severity: important

Hi!

I just upgraded to the kde*-3.5.0-4 packages from unstable. Previously I
was using the kde*-3.5.0-1 packages from Alioth. With the 3.5.0-1
packages, the device icons on the desktop work as expected: No icons are
displayed when nothing is connected to the system, and when I either
insert a CD or attach a USB drive I get the corresponding icon and a
dialog which prompts me whether I want to open a file browser for the
newly attached device, etc. This is the expected behaviour.

With the 3.5.0-4 packages, I'm seeing the following behaviour: I have a
CD icon on my desktop, even when no CD is in the drive. What is worse, I
get no new icons when attaching a USB drive, and thus am unable to
access the data (becoming root and mounting the drive manually does
work). In neither case do I get the dialog asking what to do with the
newly detected medium.

As the changelog mentions several changes related to dbus, hal and USB,
I assume that one of the changes breaks the device icons.

Thanks for looking into this,

   Georg

Did you restart your xserver after turning the translucency options on?

Add these lines to your xorg.conf and then restart your xserver:

Running KDE 3.4.2 with Transparent Windows

2005-09-13 Thread Georg Wittenburg
Hi all!

I've switched on the (experimental) transluncency option in Control Center -
Desktop - Window Behavior - Translucency. Works quite OK after minor
adjustments to xorg.conf and looks really nifty. Thanks for the packaging
effort, btw!

There are two issues and I'm wondering whether anybody else can share some
insight:

- It appears that with translucency turned on, i.e. kompmgr running, and all
other things unchanged to the best of my knowledge, some icons (laptop
battery power and knemo) in the systray go missing. Control Center - KDE
Components - Service Manager tells me they're running, but the systray icons
are just not there. Anybody else seeing this?

- The X server crashed earlier on, but I was multitasking and can't reproduce
it. Which is the best way to gather some debugging info, given that kdm
restarts the crashed X server thus overwriting /var/log/Xorg.0.log and
~/.xsession-errors? It seems as if /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old is helpful, but is
there anything else? Further, should bugs be filed against the X server or

The fix is in kdesktop, this doesn't rely on another package. But maybe the

Bug#279993: kwin: Desktop Icons Change Position on Login

2004-11-06 Thread Georg Wittenburg
Package: kwin
Version: 4:3.3.1-2
Severity: important

Hello!

Whenever I start KDE, the icons on the desktop move one snap on the grid
updwards until eventually reaching the top of the screen. This is
independant of the position of the Kicker panel as happens both when the
panel is on top of the screen and on the bottom. Using Configure
panel... to change the position of the Kicker panel also triggers this
bug. This is highly annoying as I have to manually reposition the
desktop icons _everytime_ I start KDE.

This bug has been reported to upstream
(http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47627), but I'm submitting a
separate bug report to Debian because I hope to see this fixed before
the next KDE release which will take quite some time.

I'm marking this bugs as important (4) because I consider this to be a
huge usability problem.

Thanks for looking into this.
