Bug#1073979: Please consider enabling the dm-clone module (CONFIG_DM_CLONE)
Package: src:linux Version: 6.1.90-1 Severity: wishlist File: /boot/config-6.1.0-21-amd64 Dear Maintainer, The dm-clone module is not included in the default Debian kernel. This, like dm-cache, is a useful module and it is unfortunate that a custom kernel must be built to obtain it. Please consider enabling this module (CONFIG_DM_CLONE=m) in future Debian kernels. Thank you. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 6.1.0-21-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc-12 (Debian 12.2.0-14) 12.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.40) #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.90-1 (2024-05-03) ** Not tainted -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-21-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages linux-image-6.1.0-21-amd64 depends on: ii initramfs-tools [linux-initramfs-tool] 0.142 ii kmod30+20221128-1 ii linux-base 4.9 Versions of packages linux-image-6.1.0-21-amd64 recommends: ii apparmor 3.0.8-3 ii firmware-linux-free 20200122-1 Versions of packages linux-image-6.1.0-21-amd64 suggests: pn debian-kernel-handbook ii grub-efi-amd64 2.06-13+deb12u1 ii linux-doc-6.1 6.1.90-1 Versions of packages linux-image-6.1.0-21-amd64 is related to: pn firmware-amd-graphics pn firmware-atheros pn firmware-bnx2 pn firmware-bnx2x pn firmware-brcm80211 pn firmware-cavium pn firmware-intel-sound pn firmware-intelwimax pn firmware-ipw2x00 pn firmware-ivtv pn firmware-iwlwifi pn firmware-libertas pn firmware-linux-nonfree pn firmware-misc-nonfree pn firmware-myricom pn firmware-netxen pn firmware-qlogic pn firmware-realtek pn firmware-samsung pn firmware-siano pn firmware-ti-connectivity pn xen-hypervisor -- no debconf information
Bug#768913: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools: fragile PATH dependency
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.109.1 Severity: normal File: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools The script /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools checks for the existence of /usr/sbin/update-initramfs using an absolute path, but later invokes it without any path. Among other possible dangers, this causes problems when /usr/sbin is not in one's PATH. I discovered this when trying to build a kernel with kernel-package, fakeroot, and zsh (which by default does not include /usr/sbin in PATH for ordinary users). -- Package-specific info: -- initramfs sizes -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-686-pae root=/dev/mapper/host-root ro quiet -- resume RESUME=/dev/mapper/host-swap_1 -- /proc/filesystems ext4 ext2 -- lsmod Module Size Used by nfsd 173901 2 nfs 265953 0 nfs_acl12463 2 nfs,nfsd auth_rpcgss32143 2 nfs,nfsd fscache31978 1 nfs lockd 61373 2 nfs,nfsd sunrpc143904 6 lockd,auth_rpcgss,nfs_acl,nfs,nfsd ext2 49826 1 loop 17810 0 snd_hda_intel 21786 0 snd_hda_codec 63477 1 snd_hda_intel snd_hwdep 12943 1 snd_hda_codec i2c_piix4 12480 0 snd_pcm53461 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec snd_page_alloc 12867 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel virtio_balloon 12720 0 psmouse59609 0 virtio_console 17883 0 processor 27565 0 thermal_sys17752 1 processor pcspkr 12515 0 evdev 17225 2 snd_timer 22356 1 snd_pcm snd42761 5 snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_codec soundcore 12921 1 snd joydev 17010 0 i2c_core 19116 1 i2c_piix4 serio_raw 12803 0 button 12817 0 ext4 306996 5 crc16 12327 1 ext4 jbd2 56426 1 ext4 mbcache12938 2 ext4,ext2 usbhid 31554 0 hid64284 1 usbhid dm_mod 57386 18 sg 21476 0 sr_mod 17468 0 cdrom 34813 1 sr_mod ata_generic12439 0 virtio_blk 12754 3 floppy 48125 0 virtio_net 17527 0 ata_piix 25271 0 libata125014 2 ata_piix,ata_generic scsi_mod 135081 3 libata,sr_mod,sg uhci_hcd 22337 0 ehci_hcd 39631 0 virtio_pci 13015 0 virtio_ring12988 5 virtio_pci,virtio_net,virtio_blk,virtio_console,virtio_balloon virtio 12933 6 virtio_ring,virtio_pci,virtio_net,virtio_blk,virtio_console,virtio_balloon usbcore 104555 4 ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd,usbhid usb_common 12338 1 usbcore -- /etc/initramfs-tools/modules -- /etc/kernel-img.conf # Kernel image management overrides # See kernel-img.conf(5) for details do_symlinks = yes do_bootloader = no do_initrd = yes link_in_boot = no -- /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf MODULES=most BUSYBOX=y KEYMAP=n COMPRESS=gzip DEVICE= NFSROOT=auto -- /etc/initramfs-tools/update-initramfs.conf update_initramfs=yes backup_initramfs=no -- mkinitramfs hooks /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks/: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks: busybox dmsetup keymap klibc kmod lvm2 thermal udev -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.7 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages initramfs-tools depends on: ii cpio 2.11+dfsg-0.1 ii klibc-utils2.0.1-3.1 ii kmod 9-3 ii module-init-tools 9-3 ii udev 175-7.2 Versions of packages initramfs-tools recommends: ii busybox 1:1.20.0-7 Versions of packages initramfs-tools suggests: ii bash-completion 1:2.0-1 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". As I said, wait for the next version - it won't be long. I am trying 3.9 now. It does seem to have fixed the /spu filesystem issue, and I no longer get kernel BUGs when SPU-using processes stop, but there is a new instability that is even worse as it locks up the system randomly. I feel like I should file a separate bug for the new instability. Unfortunately all I have to document it is a photo of the console; is that generally acceptable to provide, or should I transcribe it first? -- Rob Leslie r...@mars.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#857912: rpc-svcgssd.service: references wrong environment variable
Package: nfs-common Version: 1:1.3.4-2 Severity: normal File: /lib/systemd/system/rpc-svcgssd.service Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, The /usr/lib/systemd/scripts/nfs-utils_env.sh script prepares an environment variable RPCSVCGSSDARGS from $RPCSVCGSSDOPTS (set in /etc/default/nfs-common), however the systemd unit file /lib/systemd/system/rpc-svcgssd.service makes reference to $SVCGSSDARGS rather than $RPCSVCGSSDARGS, preventing any setting in /etc/default/nfs-common from having an effect. The attached patch corrects this problem. -- Package-specific info: -- /etc/default/nfs-common -- NEED_STATD=no STATDOPTS= NEED_IDMAPD=yes NEED_GSSD=yes RPCSVCGSSDOPTS=-n -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.7 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages nfs-common depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii init-system-helpers 1.22 ii keyutils 1.5.9-5+b1 ii libc62.24-9 ii libcap2 1:2.24-8 ii libcomerr2 1.42.12-2+b1 ii libdevmapper1.02.1 2:1.02.137-1 ii libevent-2.0-5 2.0.21-stable-2+deb8u1 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.15-1 ii libk5crypto3 1.15-1 ii libkeyutils1 1.5.9-5+b1 ii libkrb5-31.15-1 ii libmount12.25.2-6 ii libnfsidmap2 0.25-5 ii libtirpc10.2.5-1 ii libwrap0 7.6.q-25 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 ii rpcbind 0.2.1-6+deb8u1 ii ucf 3.0030 Versions of packages nfs-common recommends: ii python 2.7.9-1 Versions of packages nfs-common suggests: pn open-iscsi pn watchdog -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/nfs-common changed: NEED_STATD=no STATDOPTS= NEED_IDMAPD=yes NEED_GSSD=yes RPCSVCGSSDOPTS=-n -- no debconf information rpc-svcgssd.service.patch Description: Binary data
Bug#345864: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686: bug results in filesystem corruption
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12etch1 Followup-For: Bug #345864 I've also experienced extensive filesystem corruption due to this bug. I discovered this thread which seems to identify the problem: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8169 As a workaround, commenting out the "dma = on" lines in /etc/hdparm.conf does avoid the problem (and the disks will still use DMA.) Bug#490753: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-6-686: kernel BUG at drivers/md/bitmap.c:1166!
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch6 Severity: critical File: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-6-686 Justification: breaks the whole system I thought enabling an internal bitmap with mdadm might be a good idea, until I started getting kernel panics. This happened twice during heavy write I/O to a raid1 md device, on top of which is a crypt dm layer and a reiserfs file system. I've since removed the bitmap, but if you need me to re-add it and convey any subsequent details from /proc/mdstat or whatever, let me know.
