Bug#549351: jfbterm status update

2010-07-28 Thread Trent W. Buck
AFAICT upstream hasn't had a release since 2005, so Debian's version
is still current. It still Just Works for me, e.g.

jfbterm -e w3m {zh,ja,ko,el,ru}.wikipedia.org

Even w3m-img's inline image rendering works! I'm testing on an Asus
Eee PC 1005P (GMA 3150), running Sid, using the i915 framebuffer
driver with modesetting (KMS) enabled.

DaemonFS is a simple and good looking application that can monitor
your files and folders in real time. This tool lets you track
modifications to your files. Every time a file gets modified, a
notification launched from the tray icon appears. This software may
be used for reverse engineering, hard disk usage tracking, software
 analysis and more.

The URL is broken. Any other upstream url?

Does daemonfs use inotify?

Could it be named differently? DaemonFS makes it sound like a
filesystem, like ftpfs or sshfs. The description indicates it is an fs
daemon or better fs monitor.

Bug#590704: RFP: vue -- Visual Understanding Environment (VUE) concept and content mapping application

2010-07-28 Thread Thiemo Nagel
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: vue
  Version : 3.0.2
  Upstream Author :
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/tuftsvue/
* License : Education Community License v2, a derivative of the Apache
2.0 license
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Visual Understanding Environment (VUE) concept and content
mapping application

From their web site:

At its core, the Visual Understanding Environment (VUE) is a concept and
content mapping application, developed to support teaching, learning and
research and for anyone who needs to organize, contextualize, and access
digital information. Using a simple set of tools and a basic visual grammar
consisting of nodes and links, faculty and students can map relationships
between concepts, ideas and digital content.

Sharing and presenting information are important aspects of academic
work. VUE’s pathways feature allows presenters to create annotated trails
through their maps, which become expert guided walk-throughs of the
information. The pathways feature also provides a “slide view” of the
information on the map. The power of VUE’s slide mode is the ability for
presenters to focus on content (slide view) while preserving the information’s
context (map view), by way of a single toggle between the two views.

VUE also provides supports for in-depth analysis of maps, with the ability to
merge maps and export connectivity matrices to import in statistical
packages. VUE also provide tools to apply semantic meaning to the maps, by way
of ontologies and metadata schemas.

VUE can be used by anyone interested in visually structuring digital content,
whether in support of teaching difficult to understand concepts or more
generally, a tool for organizing personal digital resources.

As I alluded to in the expanded description, earlier in this thread,
there is a large difference between what dsh / mussh do and what mssh /
clusterssh do. The latter are primarily for concurrent access, whereas
the former simply run pre-decided commands or strings against a set of
hosts. If you want to fiddle around with the same thing on a few hosts
by hand, you might try to do it with mssh, but if you have a predefined
set of utility scripts and you want to execute one of them against all
256 of your data center hosts, mussh is the tool for the job.

My current employer uses mussh with a library of scripts for things like
updating the same package on any host where it is pending, removing root
keys of a retiring sysadmin from every host, quickly grabbing host
information such as OS release or installed packages from sets of hosts,
etc. We check out our host lists and utility scripts from subversion
and then execute a command somewhat like this:

ssh-add
mussh -l root -H svn/linux.hosts -C svn/frob.script -m10 -b

That's the extent of it, and whatever well-known thing frob.script does
gets done as root on every server in linux.hosts 10 at a time with
output returned grouped by host.

Thanks,
-Jacob

Sage, the package looks great.

Asheesh, if it meets your requirements for sponsorship, do you think you
can get this uploaded into Debian by next week? I'd like to get this
into Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick), and we won't really be able to add any new
packages after next Thursday.

It might not clear the NEW queue by then... especially as the ftpmasters
will be at Debconf.

But I will review it and email you guys tomorrow. Which means, 10 PM
US/Eastern, if you haven't heard from me, email me to bug me.

I request assistance with maintaining the mwavem package.

I own a ThinkPad 600 with an Mwave modem inside and I use this
to test the mwavem packages that I prepare. However, I do not use
the machine on a daily basis. If possible I would like help from
someone who does use mwavem regularly.

The package description is:
The Mwave modem support software implements a Hayes-compatible
V.90 modem in the 3780i Mwave/ACP DSP chip which is built in
to several discontinued IBM ThinkPad laptop computers,
including the ThinkPad 600, 600E and 770 models.
 .
In addition to the programs included in this package, a driver
is required for the Mwave device. Source code for the driver,
built as a module called 'mwave.o' or 'mwave.ko', is included
in the latest 2.4 and 2.6 Linux kernel sources. To build the
module, set ACP/Mwave Modem support to m at kernel
configuration time. This module must be loaded before the
Mwavem modem support program can be started.
 .
This package is in the non-free section of the archive
because it contains program binaries for the 3780i chip
that have been furnished by IBM without source code.

This kernel patch provides exec-shield, a security feature for the
Linux kernel on i386 (it is not relevant for x86_64). The patch is
present in Fedora kernels, which is also the upstream maintainer.

Since I hardly use i386 machines anymore, I need help with any of the

I've updated my branch with the latest 0.21 package plus the lintian issues
 fixed:

 https://code.launchpad.net/~clint-fewbar/+junk/ceph-packaging

Is it safe to remove the build-depends on g++ and gcc entirely?

Yes, build-essential is *always* assumed to be present when building packages.

Bug#590774: RFA: robocode -- Java programming game based on battle tanks

2010-07-28 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I have less time for packaging work these days, especially for packages
I have no personal or work connection to. Therefore, I am orphaning
robocode.

Even though I have some time available at Debconf, I'm orphaning this
now so that the adopter can use the Debconf time instead going forward.

I tried packaging a newer version fairly recently but upstream moved
their build system to Maven which isn't very Debian-ish. See [0] for
more details.

Bug#590775: RFA: reviewboard -- Web-based code review tool

2010-07-28 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I have less time for packaging work these days, especially for packages
I have no personal or work connection to. Therefore, I am orphaning
reviewboard.

Even though I have some time available at Debconf, I'm orphaning this
now so that the adopter can use the Debconf time instead going forward.

I believe the first task for an adopter would be to package a newer
upstream version. This is a little more difficult than it sounds as
upstream changed build system and filesystem layout, but I believe a
stab at this exists in my Git tree.

If you were to take over this package, you would probably want to take
over python-django-djblets too (RFA to follow).

Bug#590781: RFA: decoratortools -- version-agnostic decorators support for Python

2010-07-28 Thread Chris Lamb

I have less time for packaging work these days, especially for packages

decoratortools.

Even though I have some time available at Debconf, I'm orphaning this

An adopter of this package should probably check whether it would be
possible to RM this package instead by chasing reverse dependencies etc.

Bug#590776: RFA: python-django-djblets -- Re-usable components for Django projects

This package was uploaded as dependency for reviewboard; it would seem
sensible that an adopter interested in one should also take the other.

Bug#590772: RFA: libgc -- conservative garbage collector for C

I think the first task an adopter would need to do is update the package
in experimental (to fix #542285) and then upload it to sid. I believe
that most of the packages build fine against the 7.X series.
