Bug#898202: Current state

2019-07-03 Thread Sandro Kalbermatter
Hi Scott

Thanks for your fast answer and update. Great to hear that the package
is on the way.

I've never maintained a Debian package before but I'll be happy to learn it.

Cheers,
Kalsan

Hi Kalsan,

Just to give you a status update, I have the Debian package building
successfully. Now, it's just a matter of ensuring the documentation is
up-to-date and correcting logistical information related to the package.
After that, I think this package will be in good shape. Admittedly, I've
been neglecting the last part a little. 

Have you maintained a package before? Having someone I could bounce random
questions off of would be a pretty nice thing.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott!

5 months have passed, so I'd like to bump on this topic. I've used
mp3gain for so long and I miss it badly in more recent Debian versions.
Now that Buster is about to come up, I was really hoping for it to be
re-introduced. Can I be of any help?

Cheers!

2019-02-12 Thread Scott Hardin

Hello!

Just wanted to drop a line and say that I'm still working on this. 
Sorry, I'm a little bit of a sloth sometimes.

All of the patches that were previously being applied by the last
maintainer have since been merged into upstream. Also, mp3gain has since
seemingly abandoned its own fork of mpg123, making things wy easier.
I was able to get mp3gain to compile against Debian's own mpg123 package.

Next will be making any updates necessary to manpages/documentation and
other package-related stuff.

Scott

Cool. I registered an account (snhardin-guest). I haven't done much that
I want to save with the old code. It was mostly me playing around with
the packaging tools and seeing if I could get various things working.
I'm fine with hitting the ground running with what is here.

We could move the project to debian-multimedia then if you're willing to
have it co-maintained there.

Absolutely! The more the merrier, right? Whatever gets me more access to
resources who can better guide me on packaging is a positive.

There is salsa [0].
Use a "-guest" suffix to register [1].
Please avoid github.

I have not yet. Is there a spot where Debian folks usually throw up
their code or should I just put it up on GitHub somewhere?

Have you published you work somewhere?

I believe this package should be maintained in "Debian Multimedia Team".
