Is this bug still relevant? I do not see any indications on tracker.debian.org nor any related lintian problem. Further the patch in [1] is only partially applied to gdm3 (no relevant change in postinst compared to nodm) and it contradicts at least 1. of the list above (it *removes* the systemd unit Alias=display-manager.service). I compared the postints of gdm3 and nodem and they are the same in this regard. Further the systemd unit file of nodm does not contain Alias=display-manager.service (so no patch needed here?). Bug#633343: Bug#633441: Lost keyboard - workaround found --> calling udevadm trigger
tag 633441 + unreproducible tag 633343 + unreproducible thanks Hello, I finally managed to boot into an early shell as described in the documentation for udev (see below for how to achive this with grub2) just to see - nothing. I then commented out the udevadm trigger command, and the keyboard still works after the reboot in X. Even after cold reboot. Even if I remove the execution bits from /etc/rc.local. Even after a few days. Thus I cannot reproduce this bug any longer. Maybe because of a self compiled kernel, maybe because some other changes in /etc (I'm in the middle of setting it up, alias). Thanks for all the help. In case this occurs again, I now know how to debug it and will open a new bug (if you want to close these ones). Here is how to achive the early shell with grub2: Add the following to /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="init=/bin/bash" and run "update-grub" afterwards. After next boot you obtain the desired shell. Maybe this could be added to the information provided for udev already. I did. I could not find anything specific. I tried booting into single user mode as described but given that I use lvm, this is non trivial (I ended up in a kernel panic because no further partition could be found). Bug#633343: Lost keyboard - workaround found --> calling udevadm trigger
Hello, I tried to understand X and udev interact and at which step something went wrong. Along the way I read /usr/share/doc/keyboard-configuration/README.Debian and issued udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input --action=change No further change was done/necessary. And now keyboard works under X. I put this in /etc/rc.local and voila, even after a reboot the keyboard works. Could that be because I have EFI (AFAIK) and not a traditional BIOS? I'm still willing to help finding the cause, if you want. E.g. checking if that still happens if I connect the keyboard to USB instead of the keyboard plug etc., trying patches ... It would be a pitty if other users would have to investigate again for this (well, they probably read the bug logs, so they can reduce their time investement). clone 633343 -1 reassign -1 udev notfound -1 2:1.10.2-2 found -1 171-1 thanks Hello Marco, a fresh install from the daily netinstimage from Friday, but as soon as X starts the keyboard is dead (i.e. even Num Lock does not lit up the led). On the console, in grub etc. everything is fine. I reported this to xserver-xorg-core, but Julien Cristau told me that it is not an X bug by judging > > /sbin/udevadm info --export-db | awk -F '\n' -v RS='\n\n' '/E: ID_INPUT/ { > > print; print "" } > > > > does not return anything. From his statement I gather that some output should be produced which would indicate a possible bug in udev (though I'm not sure by his statement). Therefor I clone this bug to udev for investigation, please reassing appropriately if the bug is elsewhere. For completeness I attached the entire output of "/sbin/udevadm info --export-db". I haven't modified anything udev or X config related so far. You can find more information about the system in the bug trail; but if there is anything missing do not hesitate to ask so I can provide it to you. Thanks! Greetings Helge P.S. All other infos for this machine are in #633343, if you need more do not hesitate to ask and I can provide them. Bug#633343: xserver-xorg-core: No keyboard after fresh install
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.10.2-2 Severity: important (Maybe related to #585642, but fresh install, no hal) A fresh install of Debian Wheezy (daily image from June 8th, 2011, see #633306 for details). As long as X runs, no keyboard is present. Tried with gdm3, kdm and startx. After re-enabling the consoles (options radeon modeset=0 in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf, will report this separately) the keyboard works fine on the console (as well as in emergency shell and on the grub prompt). I do not have hal installed. I did not configure anything related to X, hal, udev & friends atm (a fresh install!). Looking at the X logs (both in /var and in .xsession-errors and the output from startx) there is no (for me) visible mention of keyboard. Please note that a mouse is currently not attached (It is still needed on my old system), but I can of course attach it for testing reasons. /sbin/udevadm info --export-db | awk -F '\n' -v RS='\n\n' '/E: ID_INPUT/ { print; print "" } does not return anything. Bug#368332: x11-common: Update from Sarge aborts
Package: x11-common Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 Severity: important This problem is about an upgrade, which did not work very nicely. Please close, if you are aware of the problem, otherwise either a workaround should be implemented (if you can see what the underlying problem is) or the Update guide for Etch needs to contain a note how to properly deal with this (I probably did not choose the wisest path). I am currently upgrading from Sarge to Etch of 2006-05-19. First the most important once (apt, dpkg) and now I wanted to switch to xorg. Since I did not know where to start (blame me on this), I issued: apt-get install xfree86-common and x11-common died with: apt-listchanges: Wollen Sie fortsetzen? [J/n]? Preconfiguring packages ... This, however, does not help (same as above). "apt-get install x11-common" does not help either. Trying to remove xfree86-common by dpkg or installing x11-common yields the same error. Interestingly, the file/directory "/etc/X11/Xsession" does not exist: remaxp:~# ls -d /etc/X11/X* /etc/X11/X /etc/X11/Xsession.d /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/Xsession.options.x11-common-tmp /etc/X11/Xloadimage/etc/X11/Xsession.x11-common-tmp /etc/X11/Xresources/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config I try to rename the Xsession.d one: remaxp:/etc/X11# move Xsession.d Xsession.d.old »Xsession.d« -> »Xsession.d.old« Now I am rather stuck. I try "dpkg -i --force-overwrite overwrite x11-common_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb" but it tells me that it needs lsb-base first (it would ignore the overwrite-problem), so first I install lsb-base which ends in: Richte xfree86-common ein (6.9.0.dfsg.1-6) ... (Installing xfree86-common). Now x11-common installs like a charm: remaxp:/var/cache/apt/archives# dpkg -i x11-common_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb (Lese Datenbank ... 151236 Dateien und Verzeichnisse sind derzeit installiert.) Sorry, not install, but »upgrade«, so the error is only a missing versioning. (I tend not to upgrade all the libfiles*, unless they are dragged in by a regular programm). Bug#350113: Is this not RC / dependency needed?
Hello, I was just bit by this bug as my testing box just failed to compile software I could compile a few days ago. For me this bug should be RC, even if the fault is elswhere, but it needs to depend on a fixed libfreetyp6. I think this bug should thus be marked RC? (With the fix being a corrected dependency on libfreetyp6, but unfortunately testing users remain hosed, strictly speaking the current libxft2 shold be removed from testing?). Ok, then I'll see that it gets into the ibook HOWTO-pages, because right now the default keyboard is simply *broken* (you can access only the "ordinary" letters, no [, no { no @). And it looks like every non-US apple user has to pull his/her own keyboard layout. The major thing to be decided is weather the ibook/powerbook keyboard should match the OSX-layout or the PC layout. Since almost no extra mappings (like [, {) are printed on the keyboard, this is mostly a political question (a choice preferred, thought). If you need me to test new keyboard layouts when it is time, please contact me (but I only have a german ibook). Thanks for taking care Helge -- Helge Kreutzmann, Dipl.-Phys. Bug#121297: xlibs: German ibook-layout, please apply at least partially
Followup-For: Bug #121297 Package: xlibs Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 I also did not have a proper AltGr key, making typing things like [ difficult. So i copied /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh/de to /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh/de2 (attached) and corrected the keys. A few notes: a) I never used MacOS, hence I chose the symbols ordinarilly appearing in Linux via AltGr. Only the following keys have a printed "third" (AltGr) code: e with Euro sign L with at sign and hence I think it makes no sense b) In contrast to the other reporter, I have the following function key layout: c) I left the at sign at L, but doubled it to q where it "normally" is available. I use both Apple keys as AltGr, and did not try to use the ??? key (I have no idea what this key is supposed to do, i heard it is Mac OS 9-legacy, right now it produces an Enter). d) Some keys do not print anything, though I defined them, I marked them with // does not work e) On my x86 at work, the following additonal AltGr-combinations are defined. I could not find their name, hence I did not assing them in the attached file (and I never used them): AltGr-Rlooks like paragraph sign, instead registered is printed AltGr-Plooks like a p where the belly has sacked down a little AltGr-Aon my x86 box the ae-letter is printed, now aring is printed AltGr-Sß is printed, but I did not want to double it AltGr-Dlike an o, where a diagonal bar is place above it, which is crossed by another bar AltGr-Gx86 has nothing here, left alone from original definition AltGr-Hx86 has nothing here, left alone from original definition AltGr-Nx86 has nothing here, left alone from original definition If you need additional information (photo of keyboard?) please mail me, I can also try things out.
