Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils I have an afs mount on my machine, and baobab ambitiously started trying to scan the entirety of the afs network. [Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode
Hey guys, This bug is linked to other "upstream" bug reports, which means Ubuntu has (rightly) passed this onto the developers of Nautilus. Once it's implemented upstream, Ubuntu will include it in a new release, and other distributions will get this new feature in their new releases as well. It's taking so long because (I'm guessing based on comments in the upstream bug report) this feature request is a bit bigger than you guys might immediately realize, and it's also not a very important fire to put out. Nevertheless, there's been very little to say against the feature, which is a good sign, so I would expect to see this in GNOME some time in the future, even if not immediately. I suggest you CC yourselves to the upstream bug reports if you want to get more updates. -- Nautilus should have a superuser mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode
I can't believe this hasn't been implemented yet. Are we trying to keep Linux as an Operating System for 'geeks' only?! Changing permissions isn't exactly the most basic of Linux commands; and going to the command prompt might be the first idea that comes to many Linux users minds, but how about those new to Linux who don't know all these commands. PomCompot I very much dig your mockup there, and it's pretty much as I had imagined the solution prior to seeing this lanchpad entry. It is also in keeping with current design of root user access for GUI applications. -- Nautilus should have a superuser mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 614188] [NEW] when attempting thru "view" to list details of files by "reverse (arange items)" order, no menu appears-as does when either icons or small icons is toggled-ergo an actual p-out reve
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus This problem may have been addressed in the v10.xcurrently using Ubuntu 9.04 also: 1. There is a tendency for cut paste using the copy f(x) to "not" recognize the information...ergo cannot be pasted to an ODT document; however, if a new html is opened thru file pulldown...this new file does recognise the copied textwhich can then be back-pedaled (copied) into the ODT document file (and the temp/solution file discarded). This is a rather infrequent annoyance...but is probably driving some people nuts (ones that haven't figured this "band-aid"solution out). Again, this may have been addressed in 10.x 2. A more serious issue is the tendency- when placing the laptop in suspended mode and traveling any minor distance- for the GUI to become dis-oriented and cannot be brought out of an "inactive" state; the only working solution so far to this is a battery DC to reset the systemthis would be considered a crash. It may be caused by a insufficiently designed laptop suspend hardware issue, but perhaps a buffering timer (to eliminate false indications that the laptop has been opened {by some jar or such}). Again, at times this can be annoying because either temp. flash files or such have to be created so as to not irrecoverably loose data or files. 3. I'm rather a newbebut quite happy with Ubuntu!! [Bug 580220] [NEW] GNOME media players stealing media keys from each other
You have been subscribed to a public bug: ubuntu Lucid on i586, all latest + proposed updates, GNOME desktop. it seems that only one media player can accept GNOME's keyboard shortcuts, even though multiple players are running. this happens with both Compiz and Metacity to reproduce: 1. set up GNOME keyboard shortcuts for "Play/Pause" and friends. (i don't have a media keyboard so i can't be sure whether this works with the default shortcuts. i use win+space for play/pause) 2. start Exaile, set up a playlist and press the assigned shortcut to start playback 3. start Totem and play a video 4. press Play/pause shortcut (to stop audio playback from Exaile) expected result: Exaile stops, video continues reasonably expectable result: both Exaile and Totem stop playback. (if one of them is paused, it resumes. basically, command play/pause is delivered to all listening players) this is what i'd consider a "right" solution, unless we want to get into media player priorities actual result: Totem stops and Exaile continues. this is precisely what i didn't want to happen - obviously, i wanted to pause Exaile in order to view the video when you shut down Totem, Exaile reacts to shortcuts again. i tested Exaile+Totem, Exaile+Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox+Totem, Totem+Rhythmbox, Exaile+Totem+Rhythmbox. it appears that the application that was started the latest steals the shortcuts ** Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- GNOME media players stealing media keys from each other https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/580220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Likewise. I still need to create a /usr/share/xsessions/xsession.desktop as below. This is not in the lucid-updates fix yet, and until it does, this bug isn't really resolved. [Bug 613869] [NEW] Message with an option not clear when there is a low battery warning
You have been subscribed to a public bug: There is a dialog box with this message: "Laptop battery critically low Computer will hibernate very soon unless it is plugged in. CANCEL - OK" Please see attached image. The message says that the computer "will hibernate ... UNLESS it is plugged in". So there is nothing that can be done to prevent hibernation (unless plug in the computer) but I have two choices: CANCEL or OK. I wonder whats happends if I press CANCEL. What I am cancelling if I press "Cancel"? Cancel option should be given when you can cancel an ongoing process, but it seems here there is nothing to cancel now. There are two possible solutions to this: 1) Remove Cancel button in case it is useless. 2) If Cancel in fact cancel the hibernation, the message should be rephrased to something like this "Computer will hibernate very soon unless it is plugged in or canceled". It would also help to change the label from Cancel to "Cancel the hibernation" (so it will be clear what you are cancelling to). ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: usability -- Message with an option not clear when there is a low battery warning https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/613869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 505341] Re: Copy disc to ISO image always uses "brasero.iso" by default
Looks like the wording of my original bug could have been better, sorry. The appending of digits after the "brasero" file name was my idea of a stop-gap solution so the program would still be usable. But my actual request was to use the volume name of the disc as the file name as nautilus-cd-burner did. Without such functionality, making backups of multiple discs in a row is very tedious. Would opening a new bug be the proper thing to do, or should this bug be re-opened and my wording adjusted? Yep, still in Lucid. I can confirm that the previously mentioned solution works with the Lucid version of nautilus, but it does (as mentioned) require recompiling.
