[Bug 614224] [NEW] hangs forever scanning afs

2010-08-05 Thread pat.pannuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I have an afs mount on my machine, and baobab ambitiously
started trying to scan the entirety of the afs network. This
will obviously not work and baobab needs to ignore afs mounts.

This is similar to #585314, but is opened as a separate bug to
bring attention to the fact that afs must be considered as well.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2010-08-05 Thread Jacob Godserv
Hey guys,

This bug is linked to other "upstream" bug reports, which means Ubuntu
has (rightly) passed this onto the developers of Nautilus. Once it's
implemented upstream, Ubuntu will include it in a new release, and other
distributions will get this new feature in their new releases as well.

It's taking so long because (I'm guessing based on comments in the
upstream bug report) this feature request is a bit bigger than you guys
might immediately realize, and it's also not a very important fire to
put out. Nevertheless, there's been very little to say against the
feature, which is a good sign, so I would expect to see this in GNOME
some time in the future, even if not immediately.

I suggest you CC yourselves to the upstream bug reports if you want to
get more updates.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2010-08-05 Thread Nick
I can't believe this hasn't been implemented yet. Are we trying to keep
Linux as an Operating System for 'geeks' only?!

Changing permissions isn't exactly the most basic of Linux commands; and
going to the command prompt might be the first idea that comes to many
Linux users minds, but how about those new to Linux who don't know all
these commands.

PomCompot I very much dig your mockup there, and it's pretty much as I
had imagined the solution prior to seeing this lanchpad entry. It is
also in keeping with current design of root user access for GUI
applications.

[Bug 614188] [NEW] when attempting thru "view" to list details of files by "reverse (arange items)" order, no menu appears-as does when either icons or small icons is toggled-ergo an actual p-out reve

2010-08-05 Thread G. John Breckenridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This problem may have been addressed in the v10.xcurrently using
Ubuntu 9.04

also: 1. There is a tendency for cut paste using the copy f(x) to "not"
recognize the information...ergo cannot be pasted to an ODT document;
however, if a new html is opened thru file pulldown...this new file does
recognise the copied textwhich can then be back-pedaled (copied)
into the ODT document file (and the temp/solution file discarded). This
is a rather infrequent annoyance...but is probably driving some people
nuts (ones that haven't figured this "band-aid"solution out). Again,
this may have been addressed in 10.x

 2. A more serious issue is the tendency- when placing the laptop in
suspended mode and traveling any minor distance- for the GUI to become
dis-oriented and cannot be brought out of an "inactive" state; the only working
solution so far to this is a battery DC to reset the systemthis would be
considered a crash. It may be caused by a insufficiently designed laptop
suspend hardware issue, but perhaps a buffering timer (to eliminate false
indications that the laptop has been opened {by some jar or such}). Again, at
times this can be annoying because either temp. flash files or such have to be
created so as to not irrecoverably loose data or files.

   3. I'm rather a newbebut quite happy with Ubuntu!! Good job
guy/gals :~))

[Bug 614126] [NEW] gedit can't leave fullscreen when run from an xterm

2010-08-05 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I tried to run gedit from an xterm (not a regular console). After
selecting View => Fullscreen, the toolbar disappeared, but the window
did not go to full screen. Moreover, the Leave Fullscreen button in the
top-right corner of the screen did nothing. I finally had to shut down
the system from a regular console because, of course, the xterm was
covered by the gedit window.

2010-08-05 Thread Leo Arias
Report it to ubuntu and wait for somebody to classify it :)

In this case, I don't really know if the right package is gnome-media.
Perhaps a better idea would be to mark it as affecting Exaile, Totem and
Rhythmbox so they define a standard and consistent way to handle
hotkeys.

Perhaps somebody watching gnome-media bugs can guide us :D

hi, thanks for your reply.
unfortunately, in this case, it was pretty difficult for me to determine which
package is actually responsible - seeing as it probably isn't any of the
mentioned players' fault. The "FindRightPackage" page was not very helpful. I
actually went to great trouble reporting without a package (you guys did your
homework and made that really difficult).

what should i do if i encounter an "in-between" bug like this one in the
future?

focus out of parent windows so you can say where it comes from).

[Bug 580220] Re: GNOME media players stealing media keys from each other

2010-08-05 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at

bug as a bug in gnome-media.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the

[Bug 580220] [NEW] GNOME media players stealing media keys from each other

2010-08-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

ubuntu Lucid on i586, all latest + proposed updates, GNOME desktop.

it seems that only one media player can accept GNOME's keyboard shortcuts, even
though multiple players are running.
this happens with both Compiz and Metacity

to reproduce:

1. set up GNOME keyboard shortcuts for "Play/Pause" and friends. (i don't have
a media keyboard so i can't be sure whether this works with the default
shortcuts. i use win+space for play/pause)
2. start Exaile, set up a playlist and press the assigned shortcut to start
playback
3. start Totem and play a video
4. press Play/pause shortcut (to stop audio playback from Exaile)

expected result:
Exaile stops, video continues

reasonably expectable result:
both Exaile and Totem stop playback. (if one of them is paused, it resumes.
basically, command play/pause is delivered to all listening players)
this is what i'd consider a "right" solution, unless we want to get into media
player priorities

actual result:
Totem stops and Exaile continues.
this is precisely what i didn't want to happen - obviously, i wanted to pause
Exaile in order to view the video

when you shut down Totem, Exaile reacts to shortcuts again.
i tested Exaile+Totem, Exaile+Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox+Totem, Totem+Rhythmbox,
Exaile+Totem+Rhythmbox.
it appears that the application that was started the latest steals the shortcuts

[Bug 613413] Re: Missing icon for "not-junk" toolbar item

2010-08-05 Thread Marcel Stimberg
The humanity theme contains the icon (it is called mail-mark-notjunk).
The problem is that the patch in debian/patches/89_express.patch renames
the action to mail-mark-not-junk. This change had been done temporarily
in the evolution codebase but was reverted afterwards:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=616954

This renaming should be removed from the patch.

[Bug 613869] [NEW] Message with an option not clear when there is a low battery warning

2010-08-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There is a dialog box with this message:

"Laptop battery critically low
Computer will hibernate very soon unless it is plugged in.

CANCEL - OK"

Please see attached image.
The message says that the computer "will hibernate ... UNLESS it is plugged
in". So there is nothing that can be done to prevent hibernation (unless plug
in the computer) but I have two choices: CANCEL or OK. I wonder whats happends
if I press CANCEL. What I am cancelling if I press "Cancel"? Cancel option
should be given when you can cancel an ongoing process, but it seems here there
is nothing to cancel now.
There are two possible solutions to this:

1) Remove Cancel button in case it is useless.
2) If Cancel in fact cancel the hibernation, the message should be rephrased to
something like this "Computer will hibernate very soon unless it is plugged in
or canceled". It would also help to change the label from Cancel to "Cancel the
hibernation" (so it will be clear what you are cancelling to).

The problem is that when you launch Deluge, patched with the patch

like these when that happens: "nott kernel: [31724.397769]

[Bug 260492] Re: opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly

2010-08-05 Thread Lars Ola Liavåg
Actually, under right-click and "Open with Other Application", it
doesn't say "Nautilus" but rather "File browser" (or whatever it's
called in your system language). After doing this once and clicking
"remember this", my problem is still gone.

[Bug 544639] Re: evince doesn't remember the window size

I'm affected by this bug; I have to set the window size and deselect
"Continuous" for every new PDF.

Is this a regression?

[Bug 565441] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__gdk_window_set_geometry_hints()

2010-08-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

[Bug 505341] Re: Copy disc to ISO image always uses "brasero.iso" by default

2010-08-05 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
Looks like the wording of my original bug could have been better, sorry.
The appending of digits after the "brasero" file name was my idea of a
stop-gap solution so the program would still be usable. But my actual
request was to use the volume name of the disc as the file name as
nautilus-cd-burner did.

Without such functionality, making backups of multiple discs in a row is
very tedious. Would opening a new bug be the proper thing to do, or
should this bug be re-opened and my wording adjusted? I'm not of sure
the proper procedure.

[Bug 399974] Re: 'Keep Aligned' option always resets to 'true' after desktop reload

2010-08-05 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
Yep, still in Lucid. I can confirm that the previously mentioned
solution works with the Lucid version of nautilus, but it does (as
mentioned) require recompiling. I'd very much like to have this fixed
for Maverick... if nothing else, why not just make the fix listed above
the default until a better solution is created?

I think it's fair to say that having the keep aligned setting reset to
OFF after every login is much less annoying to people who use the keep
aligned feature than the current behavior is to those of us who don't.

Nautilus problem and not Firefox.

2010-08-05 Thread Alex Moldovan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After installing flash the file preview when uploading files is missing.
Letś say you want to upload some photos on you blog and you want to
select some of them using the preview. I have tried this on Lucid 32 and
64 versions (all kernels since the release date) and the result is the
same. I used Firefox 2.6.8 and Adobe Flash Player plug-in version
10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.3. See the screen-shots.
