[Bug 615235] [NEW] Totem changes system video hardware.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem A few people have encountered totem suddenly (after an upgrade) displaying weird colors or just a black window. This was caused by a "contrast" preference setting in totem changing to "0" after the upgrade (instead of the default "midscale"). The issue here is not that the contrast setting suddenly changed, but that totem seems to leave its contrast settings somewhere in the hardware resulting in other players like mplayer and vlc also displaying weird colors (with the open source driver) or a black window (with the proprietary video driver). My analysis is that totem sets up some sort of pixel-processing pipeline, that includes its contrast pipeline. You could accuse mplayer and vlc of not properly initializing that pipeline because they seem to use totem's. But I think they simply don't use that feature, so they may not know about it. I think that totem should leave the hardware as it found it, and properly set the pipeline back to its original state. This was a friends system. I think it has an NVIDIA video card (onboard, AMD X3 processor). ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Totem changes system video hardware. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615235 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 496681] Re: Rhythmbox does not save playlist on iPod
This is still broken in Rhythmbox 0.13. There is a new "Sync" feature, which allows you to select Rhythmbox playlists and sync them with the ipod, but it does not work. One time it worked with one playlist, in subsequent attempts it corrupted the ipod and it needed to be restored using itunes. Aside from the sync feature, there is still not a way to right click on the ipod, create a new playlist, and then copy songs into the playlist. -- Rhythmbox does not save playlist on iPod https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP
I fell over this thread when I was installing a 10.4 in a VM today. I had some other problems (network configuration), but when they were solved the XDMCP issue turned up. It took about 5 mins to solve that problem!!! In my /etc/gdm I have an xml schema called: gdm.schema. In the schema you will find a key called: enable/XDMCP. It is a boolan value and it was set to false. I changed it to true and rebooted my system. I'm now happily connecting to the server with Xming using XDMCP. -- No option to log in remotely via XDMCP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have the same issue on Maverick: I recently upgraded from lucid, and now the clock popup appears way too high (new screenshot attached). [Bug 615201] [NEW] in loading the ipod it will crash or loose work; will not load regular mp3 player all this once worked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox For sometime I have been able to load the ipods and play the music without issue even had a movie player open up for the films in the ipod now if it does load the music it wont play the films and eventually it wont have the files registered even-though the ipod is mounted. the regular mp3 player used to load automatically and now i would have to load all files manually every time. if i disconnect all the players and try to open rhythm-box it will close out of sight immediately. whenever it does work out of the box i can expect for all files to be considered missing even though the ipod is still mounted as far as the regular mp3 player ill have to reload the files as if it where coming from a regular computer music folder. That should be more >> clear. > Suggestions? > OK, I jump onto it... The main problem is that general actions, like "Add", "Edit", "Delete" are ambiguous, even in English. It is not clear to the user (and the translator) what is going to be added, edited or deleted. What's even worse is, if there are multiple buttons with the same description in different places of the GUI and each button triggers a different action: what happens in gettext is, these button descriptions get unified into a single string to translate. I.e. there is only one msgid "Add" to be translated, although it is used multiple times in different locations for different actions. And different actions are described with different translations in many languages, not only Chinese. To prevent this, the developer should add a message context, a short explanation to the translator how this message should be understood and translated. This needs to be in the source code and is usually a comment one line above the translatable string. In glade, you have a context field where you can put such information. This will have two advantages: 1. gettext won't unify the string anymore if the message context is different, so it would be actually possible for translators to translate two "Add" buttons differently, based on the action they call. 2. Translators will see this comment associated with the translatable string. So, even if they don't have the GUI in front of them, they know how to translate the string. This speeds up translation time and is a great help, since translators don't need to spend time any more to try out every single button in the GUI, which can potentially hose their system (depending on which action they call). So, my proposed solution: add message contexts for all buttons and for any message which *could* be ambiguous. -- the word "加入" in group managment should be "新增" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Some precisions: - if g-s-d still doesn't start after applying the modification I added, errors will be traced in ~/.xsession-errors file. - if g-s-d start after applying the modification I added, I think this is because the computation of log(s output take some time and 'slow down the startup of g-s-d. Maybe others will success in doing this. My idea is that there is a race condition between dbus and g-s-d that prevent g-s-d to start if dbus isn't totally ready, but I can't prove it, and I don't now how to log the startup of dbus and g-s-d. ** Patch added: "autostart gnome-settings-daemon.desktop" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/53294665/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop.diff -- randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588155 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: CD or DVD inserted into either builtin CD/DVD drive or USB drive is properly automounted. Even a 2GB HP flash stick gets properly automounted. I've tried to fix this by modifying the source code of gnome-panel (see attachment) : I commented out things in applets>notification-area>na- tray-child.c>na_tray_child_realize(GtkWidget *widget) in order to always use the default "alpha drawing mode" (it is said that "the icon will sit on top of an ugly gray box"). This worked for me, and for other people. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1427968&page=5 post #48 (I'm seb_42) for more information. However, in my configuration, this fix seems only to work for the default theme. So it's clearly not a clean solution, but I thought I had to post my "modifications" here, in case it can help. ** Attachment added: "commented source code (and binary for 10.04 32bits) that work for the default theme of Lucid" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/53286354/notification-area_fix.tar.gz -- Notification area icon wrongly rendered/uses bg_color as a background (multiple apps) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403135 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 614988] Re: Last.fm plugin can't get playing time from rhythmbox
Dear Darran, 1. I set up last.fm plugin from rhythmbox, plugins section (edit->plugins), I entered my username and password from the plugin configuration and I can connect to last.fm from plugin right now (I saw that status is OK). But when I listen an mp3, timeline slider doesn't move. It is like that a song doesn't play at the time I'm listening the song. 2. I expected that when I listen an mp3 from rhythmbox, last.fm plugin would scrobble my mp3 to my last.fm account. 3. But I encountered that when I listen any mp3 from rhythmbox, time slider doesn't move and also last.fm plugin doesn't scrobble that mp3 to my last.fm account. So I tried to debug the player and I saw that rhythmbox is acting like that the song has no playing time and it counts zero. Because of that last.fm can't get the scrobble. I'm attaching a screenshot from my player. At the time I was listening an mp3 but slider doesn't move. I hope I can detailed my situation. Thank you Bahar. ** Attachment added: "When I try to listen an mp3" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/53285750/Screenshot-1.png -- Last.fm plugin can't get playing time from rhythmbox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 615071] [NEW] gnome-power-manager crashes on resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Since about a week ago the gnome-power-manager has stopped displaying its regular "battery discharging" icon when my netbook is not connected to its power supply (I have configured gnome-power-manager to only display an icon when the battery is charging or discharging) but a pair of scissors that - as far as I know means that the said image isn't available. I have also configured gnome-power-manager to suspend my system when running from battery and the netbook is closed, which normally works like magic. Since gnome-power-manager no more displays the right icon suspending still works for the first time as does suspending the system by pressing the "suspend" key. But on resume the gnome-power-manager crashes, closing the netbook no more suspends it and pressing the suspend key results in the active program outputting a message like is undefined. starting gnome-power-manager by hand will make power management work until the next suspend (even if it will still not use the right icon) and results in loads of warnings that always repeat themselves. {{{ (gnome-power-manager:3923): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (gnome-power-manager:3923): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (gnome-power-manager:3923): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (gnome-power-manager:3923): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_image_get_storage_type: assertion `GTK_IS_IMAGE (image)' failed (gnome-power-manager:3923): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (gnome-power-manager:3923): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed }}} Upon resume gnome-power-manager dies then with the following message: {{{ (gnome-power-manager:3923): libupower-glib-DEBUG: DBUS timed out, but recovering Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-power-manager' received an X Window System error.
