[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome]
I know you said no more comments, but I just have to add one more. I don't actually know what Ubuntu's 'mission' is, but I expect it would like to become a popular desktop operating system that can be used and maintained by anyone. Well until you fix your processes I just can't see that even coming close to being true. I'm not being ungrateful, I know and appreciate this amazing free and open software, but I'm trying to help you. You actually made this problem *worse* from one release to the next, the mere fact that you were able to do that doesn't bode well. But anyway, good luck, I hope you get the concentrate on getting basics right however boring that may be. -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
dsa42 I've got to agree with you. The result of triage showing that this problem has been classified as low shows the Ubuntu team do not really understand how they should proceed to get Linux on the desktop. There is no (or little) commercial pressure for new features, but there should be pressure to ensure that first time users have as little bother as possible with the *basics* like being able to easily position a mouse pointer over a window edge! One of the first things I noticed when using Ubuntu on my laptop was the thin window borders for manipulation with the mouse. Since I'm an experienced PC user I switched to a Vista style theme, which has the same sized borders as Vista, but the average user is not going to do this, they'll probably just get frustrated, tell other people about the experience, and switch back to Windows. By all accounts the latest version of Ubuntu makes this problem even *worse*? If you can't patch or configure the window manager to have 'virtual' borders of at *least* 5 pixels or even better some resolution independent size than you should use a theme that has physical borders of a decent size, and really that's all there is to it. -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness)
I agree this is a problem, especially with a laptop mousepad, I'm going to try to find as a theme with thicker left, right and bottom edges in the meantime :-( -- Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
