[Bug 394727] Re: Grub error message on first re-boot

2009-07-02 Thread jkohler2
I attempted a reboot, got more text error messages then the dialog box:

Warning: could not generate /etc/x11/xorg.conf.failsafe for vesa driver.

I clicked "ok"

The ubuntu graphic progress bar appeared, screen went blank, and
control went to the Bios, and another attempt at booting, again, and again.

Re: [Bug 394727] Re: Grub error message on first re-boot

2009-07-02 Thread jkohler2
Thank you for reassigning the bug to gdm. I did not know the difference.
Version of Ubuntu was 9.10 phase 2 with updates.
I am now running phase 2 without updates, and there is no problem.

To make the commands you suggest

-ls -ld /var/lib/gdm
-id gdm
-dpkg -l gdm

I will have to install the updates, and copy the information to paper,
reinstall
a stable ubuntu, and make up an email message with the information.

I will do that.

Is there a way to copy, cut, and paste from a text-based terminal window?
I am more familiar with the gui process than text
