Fred, i am not sure why the required 3D libs can't be included as dependencies. Do they require 3D acceleration as Desktop Effects (compiz) does, for example ? If no, they should be dependencies. If yes, I'd agree this could use the same mechanism as other non-free stuff uses when proposing to install missing pieces. [Bug 555899] [NEW] All appointments in Evolution Calender have advanced by 1 hour
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Beginning today, almost all appointments listed in my calender have been moved forward by 1 hour over the system time, causing all of my appointment listings, reminder messages, and most importantly my alarms, to be triggering at the incorrect time. The times are listed incorrectly both in the calender, and in the clock- applet. Restarting evolution does not help. This only began happening this week. Up until now, all appointments have been listed at the correct times, both in the past on the calender, and in the future on the calender. However, now that the appointments have shifted, all appointments, past and future, have shifted forward by 1 hour, except for those appointments within the date range of March 15 to April 4th. Those in that range still retain the correct times. The issue only appears to affect local calenders. External calender displays (such as google calender caldav) are not affected. This appears to be related to Daylight Savings Time, and the idiotic decision to change the start of DST in the US (Current timezone: America/Monterrey), as the 'old' DST used to begin on this past Sunday at 2AM. However, I did not check my appointments until today because I assumed they would be correct...and as a result, I missed a morning appointment because my alarm did not trigger appropriately. I attempted to reproduce the issue by running evolution from 'faketime' choosing arbitrary dates from several days ago, several weeks ago, and several months ago, and attempting to create appointments to see if they would shift. Any appointments that I created did not shift with the existing appointments. Appointments placed in future years also do not shift. As a result, I cannot reproduce this issue, however this is not the first time this has happened to me. This is simply the first time I've reported it. I also intend to test using Lucid, though considering my inability to reproduce the bug on my system, I am less than hopeful that the bug will appear. [Bug 293535] Re: CPU always 100% CPU
I am also seeing this on Karmic. I also think gconf should not allow another buggy program to use up the CPU. It really needs to throw a user-visible error stating what the problem is, and throttle the other buggy program. Ah, I believe metacity didn't come up as expected this boot, and I started it from the commandline, so I have two instances. Fighting over gconf? Yup, killing the older instance made the gconf cpu usage go away, and I could see my window manager get reloaded. [Bug 548891] Re: keyboard input broken due to invalid SKIP keyboard model
Thanks for checking. So the question is how this XKBMODEL=SKIP appeared in /etc/default/console-setup in the first place. The file is written by console-setup's postinst, and that has a special case for SKIP once, but not in the code which actually writes the default file. My guess would be that the question wasn't shown somehow in the installer, which leads to the debconf database having this SKIP value. On the date when it broke for you (3/26/2010) we did get a console-setup update, I guess this triggered the bug for you. ** Package changed: gdm (Ubuntu) = console-setup (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: console-setup (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: console-setup (Ubuntu) Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) = Canonical Foundations Team (canonical-foundations) ** Description changed: + Summary: /etc/default/console-setup has an invalid XKBMODEL=SKIP + Workaround for affected machines: sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup + + -- + Original bug report: + VMWare Player 3.0.1 build-227600 Host OS: Windows XP Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Beta, Kernel 2.6.32-17-generic After installing a slew of Ubuntu updates on 3/26/2010 keyboard input at the gnome login prompt no longer works. The mouse does work and I am able to use the 'on-screen keyboard' accessibility tool to input my password and gain entry. I suspected that after updating that possibly some of the vmware drivers may not be working correctly, so I ran vmware-config-tools.pl to recompile the tools, which didn't work. An existing example for the Windows - Outlook world would be the CodeTwo Outlook Export CodeTwo Outlook Export is an easy to use free tool for exporting data from Microsoft Outlook to CSV text files, which can later be imported into many different programs and systems. It is faster, easier to use and can export more data than the built-in export Outlook feature. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Jd Evora: First of all I think you put too much weight behind Brainstorm as a tool to drive change inside Ubuntu. You actually shouldn't be at all surprised that Brainstorm popularity has very little influence over design decisions. It's never had influence in any technical decision making and no one in a position of authority inside Canonical or Ubuntu governance has ever claimed that it has. Canonical nor the external Ubuntu governance structures make it a policy to rely heavily or to even officially review highly popular ideas in Brainstorm on a regular basis or part of technical decision making or public governance discussion. Were highly popular Brainstorm ideas even discussed in an organized session during the UDS in the run up to 10.04? The track record of implemented ideas backs up my point. You look really closely at the ideas marked implemented in Brainstorm and they are at best mediocre in terms of Brainstorm popularity. None of the highly popular ideas in Brainstorm get implemented..or even discussed publicly as a matter of technical decision making or governance. Take for example the music store idea. It has a negative voting total and is marked implemented. It's wishful thinking to suggest that Brainstorm popularity plays an important role in decision making. It doesn't. At best brainstorm is a dumping ground for random ideas. There's no evidence that the voting process correlates with feature development or decision making at all. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 555546] Re: nome-nettool terminates when I click Ping
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 555558] [NEW] Swedish keyboard layout resets to english after shutdown/reboot
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I'm using the 'Lucid' beta and my swedish keyboard layout reverts back to english when I reboot/shutdown. I only have the swedish layout in the list over available layouts(removed the english one) and when I check after a reboot the swedish entry is still the one there, it just works as an english keyboard. I have to remove and re-select the swedish layout for it to work properly again. This causes some problems if you choose a password for login, for instance, where the assigned keys are switched around. This bug might be related to 349236 but I'm not quite sure. [Bug 552235] Re: rhythmbox auto quits when i control the volume
[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Well brainstorm might not be anything, but its yet another sign that the VAST majority of users oppose the idea. If you think the opposite is true, then plz, enlighten me :]. Its a good thing to allow the button positioning to be controlled through themes/skins. This provides options, which is always a good thing. However, making something the default behavior is a serious matter. Having mac style buttons on windows, while everything else (tabs,etc..) have those buttons on the right seems like a really really bad idea. Still, the ubuntu team has had some great ideas so far, so i am willing to run with it for the time being. I will probably even keep the default settings and try to see the merits... -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Brainstorm is just a technicality. The point is that - many users thought of Ubuntu's organization as a democracy without burocracy: when you have a nice mission (Linux for human beings), a nice codebase to start from (Debian), a nice group of people and a nice capital to start, who cares about the exact governing process?! There are several great examples of BDFL in Open Source. - instead the difference between Ubuntu and a(n ideal) democracy is not merely _technical_: they just _don't share the same goals and principles_ - in particular, Ubuntu has no commitment to do what is best for the community. - among the things that they do not share, is the way to communicate. That's why a very smart marketing campaign, with a nice and friendful logo, a name with deep meaning, a slogan that talks of humanity... all that may mislead people into having excessive expectations. OT And that's partly stupid, because in 2010 we should all know what marketing is. Probably a partial excuse is that in the Open Source world there is less abitude to those techniques. /OT But please don't point at _technical particulars_ of how Ubuntu is not a democracy, I think it's not the point. It just _is not_ a democracy, Mark himself stated it clearly, and we have no right to recriminate. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
@hills You should have added the next line showing your movement to the menu to open the next window or app, which would make the travel to the close button on the right a longer wasted path. With the close button on the left you don't have to go far to open the next application. Arguments can be made to prove either way is better or worse. If everyone had used their energies to motivate Mark and his team to add an easy way to adjust the window buttons in the Appearance Applet instead trying to debunk the actual placement of the buttons, then at least and easy GUI HowTo could be made for showing those who wish to put the buttons on the left an easy way to do it. Instead we have to now either give them a full terminal command to put the buttons to the right or a command to open gconf, then walk them through making the change.
