Actual behavior: When I attempt to copy either podcasts or music to the iPod using Rhythmbox, the file is moved to a subdirectory of /iPod_Control/Music as expected, but after ejecting the iPod, the onboard interface does not report that the file has been transferred. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641954] [NEW] Output switches from HDMI speakers to internal speakers on DPMS off
Probably logs would be best, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641954 Title: Output switches from HDMI speakers to internal speakers on DPMS off Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: PulseAudio 8.0 includes a well-known user-experience regression: Its new auto-routing algorithm tries to switch to another output, as soon as the active output gets disconnected. This leads to the following bad user experience: (1) Alice listens to music on her speakers, which are connected to the screen, which is connected through HDMI to the computer. (2) Alice leaves the computer, the screen gets suspended (DPMS off). (3) PulseAudio sees that the HDMI output got disconnected (although only for a short interval) and switches to internal speaker. (4) Alice returns to the computer but finds that the music is now playing through the internal speakers. (5) Alice can switch the output to the HDMI speakers manually, but the above user experience bug will reoccur when she leaves the computer again. This is a well-known upstream bug that was fixed in PulseAudio 9.0. Due to the fact that Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS uses PulseAudio 8.0, it is desirable to backport this fix to PulseAudio 8.0, so that all LTS users have better experience. Upstream said they would not do this and that I should report this to Ubuntu directly. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)
Well, for a start, could you please get a log from PulseAudio as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log? Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574324 Title: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Yakkety: Fix Released Bug description: Impact: A patch we carry for Ubuntu touch introduced a change that originally was required to make sure PulseAudio did not crash. This patch was ported to PulseAudio 8 in Xenial, but the patch author's bluetooth hardware that was to hand at the time worked so was assumed to be ok. However, the opposite is now happening, i.e PulseAudio is crashing with a subset of Bluetooth hardware. Regression potential: Very low to none. As can be read in this report, much debugging and testing has been done to find the problem, and the eventual fix. Moreover the change is the removal of a patch hunk that removed a line of code originally present in PulseAudio. Test case: NOTE that this test case applies to bluetooth hardware that is identified as not working in this bug report. 1. Install, or upgrade to Xenial or yakkety. 2. Pair your bluetooth device in the bluetooth settings in the relevant settings application for your desktop environment. 3. Once paired, you will notice that sound stops working, as pulseaudio has thrown an assertion error. 4. You do not have to remove your audio device from the paired device list, but it may be easier to do so for the next part of the testing. 5. Update to the version of PulseAudio in xenial-proposed which is 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.1, or in yakkety-proposed, which is 1:9.0-2ubuntu2.1. 6. Re-pair your device. Audio should continue to work, and you should be able to switch to your bluetooth device and use it. Original bug report: When I attempt to connect my Jaybird Bluebuds X to Ubuntu 16.04 pulseaudio crashes, this does *NOT* happen with a Jambox which leads me to believe it's an intermittent problem with some hardware. This did not happen on Ubuntu 15.10 (which was an upgrade of 15.04). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1645891] [NEW] After adding a second monitor, mouse pointer flickers and/or disappears in a zone near the top of first (notebook) monitor, while some apps show slow in ext disp
Public bug reported: It seems to be duplicate of both : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1641467 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1629300 . Possibly related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278223 A - flickering in first display. The zone starts just below the top panel and its height is about 1/7 of the screen. Flickering starts immediately entering the zone, even half of the pointer may be flickering. To the centre of the zone, flickering is more prevalent, up to completely disappearing. The flickering has a periodic pattern, which seems to be affected by the windows displaying in the second (external) monitor !! B - external monitor. Some applications show really slow there. Worse case is HipChat (Atlassian chat program), which shows fine as long as even a tiny fraction exists on the primary display. At the moment the whole window passes to the secondary, then even the scroll bar has a delay of a second a move. To check, I have played with the ~/.config/monitors.xml without success. It seems that each configuration is saved there, even duplicates, after adding the same external monitor and re-configuring it (absolute duplicate in monitors.xml) C. Side-effects and related phenomena. Some times the "Screen display" control freaks, when enabling the external monitor. It may freeze or insist to put them in mirroring. Most of the times it just forgets a setup (although in monitors.xml) after adding a different external monitor. For each workspace, there is a different background, done with Unit5y Tweak Tool. All updates have been done, without effect. I resent my Ubuntu One password, just to make sure I wasn't typing it wrong, and the error persists. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581713 Title: Ubuntu Software asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account to install/remove a snap Status in Ubuntu GNOME: Triaged Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in snapd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: If I try to uninstall a snap using Ubuntu Software, it asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)
The update did fix Bluebuds X for me on 16.04. Before pulseaudio was crashing and now it's been working for a week. @gofurygo perhaps start with "grep pulse /var/log/syslog*" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574324 Title: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Yakkety: Fix Released Bug description: Impact: A patch we carry for Ubuntu touch introduced a change that originally was required to make sure PulseAudio did not crash. 5. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)
Unfortunately, the update released recently is exactly what broke it for me :-( Before that, all was okay and my Philips headset connected fine, also A2DP was ok. But for about 1 week, it is completely broken. Now after the update, I can't even pair it anymore. When I start from scratch to pair, it pairs for 1 or 2 seconds, then disconnects immediately. When trying to "turn on" the pairing again via the settings/bluetooth gui, it won't even let me move from off to on. I am running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 LTS. Anybody got an idea how to fix it...? It really is annoying to use earphones with cable :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574324 Title: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638983] Re: Boot splash with luks password prompt broken after nvidia upgrade to 367
Installed 16.10. Without nvidia drivers the boot splash and password prompt are fine. With nvidia drivers, the boot splash appears (unlike in 16.04), but it's not interactive. Removing "splash" and "quiet" from the kernel command line again allows a normal text-only prompt and continued boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-367 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1638983 Title: Boot splash with luks password prompt broken after nvidia upgrade to 367 Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-367 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Just got the nvidia driver update from 361 to 367. Upon reboot, the boot splash (plymouth?) with the password prompt for the encrypted root is missing. The screen flashes dark purple and the switches to black with a blinking cursor echoing anything typed. Ctrl-alt-del reboots. Booting with kernel options "quiet splash" removed results in a text-mode boot process where the password prompt is present, proceeding normally. Wasn't sure if this was plymouth or nvidia issue, I'm guessing nvidia because that's what upgraded and broke functionality. Tried redoing update-grub and update-initramfs, didn't help. Found I had both nvidia-361 and nvidia-367 installed (why didn't -361 uninstall?), but manually removing -361 (and redoing initramfs just in case) didn't change anything. When selecting "Automatic" video output in VLC player, the playback malfunctions in several ways. 1. The video floats on top, covering drop-down menus and other windows in front. I tried to take a screenshot, but the video does not appear on the screenshot. 2. The aspect ratio is wrong: the image is squeezed from the sides. Trying to change the aspect ratio cuts a different rectangle from the image without changing the aspect ratio. (Note: I have a Full HD screen 1920x1080.) 3. The image cannot be stretched beyond its maximal resolution (as understood by VLC after miscalculating the aspect ratio). 4. When resizing the window, a blue background appears and blinks. Sometimes it stays, especially in fullscreen mode. These problems are fixed by selecting GLX video output instead of Automatic. I do not know if this might be relevant, but i suspect that for some reason i do not have accelerated graphics in my desktop environment: dragging windows around clearly is not accelerated enough. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641954] [NEW] Output switches from HDMI speakers to internal speakers on DPMS off

The output switches to "Speakers / Build-in Audio" on DPMS off and does not get restored on DPMS on. Not sure how to progress here. Shall I send you a video reproducing the bug? To those of you who are concerned with this message '/etc/modprobe.d is not a file', note that this message does not reflect an error. So far I measured 11 minutes to open a 15,9Kb file. By copying the file to the local filesystem and clicking it opens instantly. I haven't tried other remote protocols. The remote server is running openSUSE 11.3 on a ADSL connection with 768Kbit/s upload speed. Tried with both ttf and otf files and makes no difference. I'm also seeing an abnormal amount of network traffic in system monitor that is much greater than the actual font file size. I've killed the gnome-font-viewer process because I got tired of waiting after it had downloaded 60MB from the said server when trying to open a 195KB font file. Steps to reproduce: 1. in nautilus open a remote connection to a SFTP server (preferably one with a slow connection so the problem is more evident) 2. click on a font file to open it Expected results: The font file opens in the time it would take to download and open it Actual results: It takes a very long time to open the file and there is an abnormal amount of network traffic not proportional to the file size System is Ubuntu 11.04 with all the latest updates and gnome-control- center 2.32.1 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: gnome-control-center 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu15 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Jun 26 00:14:15 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release i386 (20110427.1) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=pt:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=pt_PT.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-control-center UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-utils/+bug/802066/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 477565 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477565 "[Bug 748027] Re: gnome-system-log: cannot read when scrolled-back" Gablewatts doc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748027 Title: gnome-system-log: cannot read when scrolled-back Status in gnome-utils package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-utils I am trying to read earlier entries in the kern.log or the syslog so I use the scroll bar on the text view to attempt to scroll back but I am constantly thwarted by gnome-system-log scrolling to the tail of the file because a new line was added to the log. gnome-system-log does this even WHILE I am dragging the scroll elevator up attempting to view earlier entries in the log! I appreciate the value of automatically scrolling to the tail of the log when a new entry is added. But doing so when the user is attempting to scroll back to read earlier entries is thwarting the user's use of the scroll bar. I suggest that if the user has scrolled back to view earlier entries in the log, gnome-system-log should suspend it's "scroll to tail when new entries added" behavior until the user has scrolled to the end of the log again. "[Bug 549935] Re: gnome-screenshot ignores --area if called from shortcut" Anders Johansson doc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screenshot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549935 Title: gnome-screenshot ignores "--area" if called from shortcut Status in gnome-screenshot package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gnome-utils package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: By pressing "Print" a screenshot of the whole desktop gets taken. But I would prefer if I could always choose the area of the screenshot by hand. By calling "gnome-screenshot --area" from commandline you can select the area. So I went into System -> Shortcuts (? have a German layout) and deactivated the shortcut "print" for taking a screenshot. Now I added a new shortcut with the command: "gnome-screenshot --area" and assigned the "print" key to it. (Theoretically I am done at this point) But if I press the print key a screenshot of the whole screen gets taken. And there was NO area selection. If I change the command from " --area" to "--interactive", then by pressing the "print" key the property window pops up (if i select there the checkbox area-selection I can choose the area). Assigning "gnome-screenshot --area" to a different key/ or combination of keys has the same result - the area selection never shows up. (The interactive mode always works) Do I miss something or did I found a bug? And can anyone tell me if there is a fix? As a workaround I tried putting the command into a script and then calling the script per shortcut with the same result: the area selection never shows up, (the interactive mode does). I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with kernel 2.6.31-20-generic (without compiz or any desktop effects) loe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screenshot/+bug/549935/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

In Ubuntu 9.04 gnome-screenshot now black/blanks-out the top 210 pixels of any screenshot I take of an individual window (i.e. Alt- Printscreen) regardless of which monitor I take it on. The number of pixels blanked out seems dependent on the difference in the y-offset across the screens as configured in xorg.conf. Taking a screenshot of the whole desktop works properly. The problem did not occur at all in Ubuntu 8.10. Here's the relevant extract from my xorg.conf: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "ScreenCentre" 1280 0 Screen 1 "ScreenLeft" 0 210 Screen 2 "ScreenRight" 2880 210 Option "Xinerama" "On" EndSection Note that the left and right monitors are slightly lower on my desk than the centre monitor so I've set their y-offsets in xorg.conf to 210 pixels (from what otherwise should be 1200-1024=176 pixels) so that when I drag windows between monitors the widows appear at the same level. I'll attach a screenshot of the whole desktop to illustrate the xorg offsets, and screenshots of individual windows which illustrate the problem.
