  Rythmbox many errors when importing to library

Bug description:
  - Install rhythmbox if you don't already have it.
  - Inside Rhythmbox, import a network (Samba/NFS tested) large folder with 
many different types of audio files (ogg, mp3, aac, etc). I'm importing a 
folder with approximately 4TB in an organized tree (artist/album/tracks).
  - During import, it will complain about not having proper codecs to play such 
fyletypes, present checkboxes with codecs options to be installed. If you tr to 
install any of them, you get broken deps.
  - You won't get a chance to install them anyway. Look at dmesg.

Bug description:
  The tablet in overall seems to work correctly, with all pressure-
  features working. But quite frequently, while drawing, GIMP seems to
  wrongly read the coordinates of the stylus (as zeros, or negative
  values?), resulting in frequent, random 'line-peaks' in the direction
  of the left and upper image edges. With this bug it is hard to even
  use the tablet, since these problems are very frequent (see the
  exemplary image attached).

  The tablet works with no problems in MyPaint. The bug is reproducible
  in both Unity-2d and Unity-3d.

  I also notice the CPU usage increasing dramatically during drawing
  with any brush.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Connect the Wacom Bamboo One tablet
  2. Open GIMP
  3. Start drawing longer strokes with any brush

  Expected result:
  The brush stroke as intended by moving the stylus

  Actual result:
  The brush stroke as intended with frequent, random line-strokes towards image 
edges

  If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right 
click and select "resize icon".
  This works fine.

  However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
  says "Restore Icon's Original Size" is greyed out - implying that it's
  not selectable, when, in reality, it is.

  The option should be greyed out when it hasn't been resized or is the
  original size, but it shouldn't be greyed out after the size has been
  changed.

This issue is reproducible with Intel DX58SO motherboard. It occurs when
when open sites which contains Rich AJAX or flash player. eg Yahoo
Chess. This problem is prominent on Ubuntu Versions greater than 10.04.
I reported this bug Bug 986773 with apport but they also regarded it as
"Incomplete". You can also check 971353. I only mentioned one
reproducible path but I am sure there are many and with my experience I
have faced it multiple times. Also in my case, it is worst , the whole
system restarts with the crash.

If this bug is not fixed, then I cannot upgrade from 10.04 or else I
will switch to another Linux OS.

  When the launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of
  screen" (the new default), then clicking on the left edge of a screen
  doesn't bring focus on a maxmised app.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Ensure launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of screen" and 
"Dodge windows" (not dodge active windows)
  2) Open Firefox, make sure its maximized.
  3) Open GNOME Terminal, make sure it isn't maximized, and move it near the 
right edge of the screen so that there's some space between the terminal and 
the left edge of screen. The launcher should be hidden now.
  4) Move the mouse pointer to the *extreme* left edge of screen and click.

  What should happen:
  Firefox should get selected.  e.g. if you click on the far left edge *before* 
the launcher appears the window you are clicking on should be brought into

  Under Unity if you press the alt key the global menu becomes focused
  and you can select menu items via alt+f (File), alt+e (Edit) and so
  on. This works with all applications, except when the desktop is
  focused. For consistency reasons and keyboard navigation nautilus
  desktop too needs an alt-key navigateable menu.

  Sometimes, the shortcuts do not work.

  Steps to reproduce problem :
  1. (on the upper left workspace) open gedit
  2. move the window to the right edge to make it take the right half of the 
screen
  3. go to the upper right workspace
  4. open nautilus (home folder)
  5. move the window to the right edge to make it take the right half of the 
screen
  6. press Super-G (where G is the number corresponding to the gedit 
application, 3 in my case)
  7. press Super-N (where N is the number corresponding to the nautilus 
application, 2 in my case)

  What I expect :
  at step 6, I expect the focus to go from the nautilus application to the 
gedit application and the screen should go from the upper-right workspace to 
the upper-left workspace,
  at step 7, I expect the reverse to happen : focus go from the gedit 
application to the nautilus application and the screen go to the upper-right 
workspace.

  What happened :
  at step 6, the focus went correctly from the nautilus application to the 
gedit application, and the screen displayed the upper-left workspace
  but at step 7, the focus left the gedit application, but no application at 
all was focused.  No application was focused.

  Comments :
  it doesn't depend on gedit/home folder nautilus.  I can reproduce that bug 
with other applications as well.

  Start a Desktop using Compiz/Unity, go to an *empty* workspace.
  Create or add something on the desktop, *select it*, then try to remove it 
with "Shift + Del":
   a dialog with "are you sure you want to delete this.." pops up, as expected.
  Now re-do the same on a non-empty workspace (open something, anything, like a 
terminal or an editor).
  After "Shift + Del", nothing happens. Depending on the type of window on the 
workspace, you may see that that window received the action instead of nautilus.

  Worth mentioning, i use:
  s0_click_to_focus = false
  s0_raise_on_click = false
  s0_autoraise = false
  (hence the "select it" enhanced above)

  It's a regression compared to the Classic Desktop with Metacity.

  because it is not acceptable for clicking on a Launcher icon to do
  different things in Unity2d and Unity3d.

  

  What should happen:

  If an application has multiple windows, clicking once on the launcher
  icon should raise only the most recently focussed window (that is not
  currently minimised).

  If an application has multiple windows, selecting a Alt-Tab icon
  should raise only the most recently focussed window (that is not
  currently minimised).

  Excluding windows "that are not currently minimised" means that if a
  application (say 'Terminal') has two windows open (A and B), and the
  user minimises one window (window A) and then focuses a different
  application, if the user clicks on the 'Terminal' launcher icon (or
  selects the 'Terminal' icon in Alt-Tab), window B should be brought to
  the front of the Z stack and window A should remain minimised.

  
  This behaviour occurs on the latest build of 12.04 beta and unity 5.6.0.

  the alt + tab pressed quickly (without the switcher showing) seems to
  have some inconsistencies.

  First test case, which seems to have the right behavior:
  1. Have a chromium instance, and 2 thundebird windows (a composer window and 
the main window) on the same worspace
  2. I can quickly alt + tab between the 2 last windows like the main window 
and the composer
  -> this behavior seems right

  1. Now, same configuration, but the two last windows I want to switch between 
is the chromium window and the thunderbird composer (for some copy and paste, 
for instance).
  2. Make sure the thunderbird composer window is focused
  3. Then focus the chromium window
  4. press alt + tab quickly (so the switcher does not show)

  Current incorrect behaviour:
  - The thunderbird composer window gets the focus (correct) and the 
thunderbird main window is placed on top of the chromium window in the z order 
stack (incorrect)

  Correct desired behaviour:
  - The thunderbird composer window gets the focus
  - The z-order of all other windows is unaffected.

I think this is because libmtp9 that's available to us on Ubuntu 11.10
is an old version. I've found this forum post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=881293 which indicates that
upgrading libmtp to a newer version fixes the problem. I haven't been
able to found upgraded packages for libmtp3 nor have I been able to
build my own package from source. 'apt-get build-dep libmtp' does
apparently not satisfy all build-dependencies for the package. configure
does not detect anything wrong. Build just fails with

  After dragging several desktop file icons to the unity launcher trash
  icon, which failed (see Bug #816711).  The icons "flew" back to their
  desktop position after their drag and dropped failed.  However later
  while printing a test page and not having any desktop visible, the
  same icons started flying across my screen again (yes on top of all
  open applications).  This occurred after deleting the files with the
  "Move to trash" entry from the right click menu, and I have verified
  that the files are still in the trash.

  The icons flying across the screen, always moved from approximately
  where the unity launch trashcan icon is to what I would guess was
  their original position on the desktop.  It was not the same icon each
  time but seemed to cycle through the set of file icons I had tried to
  delete unsuccessfully earlier.

  For the first time ever, I was not prompted for a password when I
  opened the lid of my laptop and resumed suspend. I have not been able
  to replicate it again since, but is sounds like a potentially serious
  security bug. I updated Ubuntu two days ago (I think) with the default
  suggested updates, and again today. So, I guess that either:

  NEW ITERATION:
  What is currently defective by design is the way unity is put on top of the 
background windows. It's a simple colored layer placed above stuff, with some 
nice blur to makes things more readable but it carries all the issues of 
washing out the resultant color of the dash, making it less crisp and vibrant.

  A nice trick is to play with the underlying background windows (the
  damage area/pixmap taken from Compiz), blend them with colors, and
  place the resultant below the dash.

  The steps are these:
  1) Take the underlying pixmap
  2) Blend this pixmap with a tweaked average color using OVERLAY operator
  3) Blur the pixmap (as we currently do)
  4) Put this new obtained pixmap below the dash
  5) At this point, the dash could be just a solid dark layer even with a lower 
opacity

  We might tweak the steps further, but the essential bits will remain
  the same because what will make the big difference is the blending
  described in step 2, that we are not doing now.

  ORIGINAL BUG (FIXED Cimi):
  The background of the BFB, Workspace Switcher, Lens, and Trash launcher icons 
tiles need to use a higher saturation of the average background colour of the 
wallpaper.

  Currently the colour is not as prominent as shown in the design,
  compare the attached image "unity_desktop_24_06_11_02.png" to the
  current implementation (when using the default wallpaper).   In the
  exact visual effect we are trying to achieve the colour takes on much
  more prominence.

  - Increase the colour saturation in the BFB, Workspace Switcher, Lens, and 
Trash launcher icons

  Please make network-manager smarter so that it checks if bind9 or
  dnsmasq are installed, so that it doesn't start the local resolver in
  that case.

  After upgrading my Ubuntu to Oneiric, I can't seem to rip CDs to FLAC
  any longer with rhythmbox.

  - The preferences don't list FLAC/Lossless any longer (there's an empty 
entry, and if I select that, the example file name above changes to .flac - but 
that's it).
  - When I try to rip a CD with the above setting to the empty entry, I get the 
following error:
  "This file cannot be transferred as it is not in a format supported by the 
target device and no suitable encoding profiles are available."

  The "target device" in question is still an SMB share, as it was under
  Natty. I suspect there's rather some library missing, but everything
  (flac, liblfac8, etc.) seems to be installed, and gst-inspect-0.10
  seems to find flac-related stuff, too.

  Any ideas what's missing?

Don't you think it's a bit reckless closing bugs and brushing them aside
like this, as if people reporting them are mere idiots.  This is a
really serious bug, and only two days ago I managed to waste a complete
48 hours because of the 100% CPU usage and unresponsiveness of the
system.

You say to obtain a back trace; how on earth are you supposed to do that
when the system is simply frozen and the bug affecting not a single
package, but every single package that one can use to copy files across
- take your pick, do a large copy of either a large contiguous file or a
large number of files, and bingo you have it.

One would have thought a team with brains the size of a planet would
surely have seen this, rather than hide behind political crap that
distinguished Micro$oft and it's pile of Windoze trash.  So how about
you get off of your hight horse, move those fat a***s, acknowledge the
bug and give a more meaningful answer to everyone's complaints?  Bah
Humbug !!

Just as a short reminder, there are more DNS-resolver/server available as 
packages out there than just bind and dnsmasq, i.e. djbdns and it's derivates. 
Until I removed the annoying dns=dnsmasq line in /e/N/Nconf, NM disconnected 
the WLAN after a couple of minutes, throwing an error about dnsmasq not able to 
bind to 127.0.0.1.
I'm  puzzled about the default inclusion of dnsmasq as a local resolver for 
standard users. If a connection is to be shared, it might be useful to bind 
dnsmasq to the shared iface to provide DHCP and DNS, like it's done with 
libvirt-bin.

i saved a new bookmark with CTRL+D into an directory 'daily'.

from there, i wanted to sort them new but that failed and the new
bookmark was shifted into the directory above (which is directly into
the bookmark menu)

now i tried to drag and drop it from there into the directory but every
time i get right from the arrow in the bookmarks list, the underneath
directory fades away and it is not possible to sort them with the drag
and drop methode!

If i mark the bookmark and work with cut and paste it works...

  drag-and-drop in bookmarks not possible - copy/paste works

Bug description:
  i saved a new bookmark with CTRL+D into an directory 'daily'.

  from there, i wanted to sort them new but that failed and the new
  bookmark was shifted into the directory above (which is directly into
  the bookmark menu)

  now i tried to drag and drop it from there into the directory but
  every time i get right from the arrow in the bookmarks list, the
  underneath directory fades away and it is not possible to sort them
  with the drag and drop methode!

  If i mark the bookmark and work with cut and paste it works...

  (except think for about 0.5 seconds). Previously this caused the
  system to crash, but it no longer does.

  When the launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of
  screen" (the new default), then clicking on the left edge of a screen
  doesn't bring focus on a maxmised app.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Ensure launcher is set to "Show launcher with mouse on left of screen" and 
"Dodge windows" (not dodge active windows)
  2) Open Firefox, make sure its maximized.
  3) Open GNOME Terminal, make sure it isn't maximized, and move it near the 
right edge of the screen so that there's some space between the terminal and 
the left edge of screen. The launcher should be hidden now.
  4) Move the mouse pointer to the *extreme* left edge of screen and click.

  What should happen:
  Firefox should get selected.  e.g. if you click on the far left edge *before* 
the launcher appears the window you are clicking on should be brought into 
focus.  However as soon as the Launcher starts to slide out the focus should 
switche to the Launcher (as happens currently)

  What happens:
  Firefox doesn't get selected, and if the pointer isn't moved away, the 
launcher un-hides.

  4) Click some other settings panel (such as "Backup" or "Keyboard")
  5) The launcher item is still "Background" with a wallpaper icon, which no

Bug description:
  Description:  The right clicking on the Nautilus icon in the Launcher
  should open a quicklist that lists the bookmarks and locations
  displayed as Nautilus 'Places'.  These locations used to be displayed
  in the 'Places' menu bar menu, and are still displayed inside Nautilus
  in the left hand 'Places' sidebar.

  Desired resolution:
  The Nautilus Launcher quicklist should list all the bookmarks displayed 
inside Nautilus in the 'Places' sidebar.  This list needs to be dynamic, so 
that if user changes their bookmark, their new bookmarks are reflected in the 
quicklist.  In addition, a 'Open a new window' option should be added to the 
top of the quicklist.

  When using my laptop with an external monitor attached, Unity behaves
  in an unexpected manner. Below, is a basic outline of how I have my
  monitors set up using Gnome3's Display utility.

  I'm not sure what the proper name for the menu/indicator bar that runs
  across the top of the screen is. Here, I refer to it as the Unity menu
  bar.

  My problem is this - when using multiple monitors, with maximized
  applications, it is difficult to use the mouse to switch focus from
  one app to the other. In my mind, the Unity menu bar must act as both
  a menu bar and a traditional window title border when applications are
  maximized. In single screen mode, this works as I expect it to. For
  example, I can reach up to the Unity menu bar and drag down to de-
  maximize the window.

  But, this pattern/metaphor seems to break down when using multiple
  monitors. Let's say I have Firefox maximized on #1 and Thunderbird
  maximized #2. I start by using Firefox. Thus, Firefox is the
  application in focus. As long as  continue to interact with Firefox,
  everything behaves as I expect it to. The problem starts when I want
  to shift focus to Thunderbird running on #2. If I use Alt-Tab,
  everything works as expected because Unity properly understands that I
  have shifted focus to Thunderbird. But, if I use my mouse to switch
  focus, Unity's behavior is not logical. Let's say I drag my mouse from
  Firefox to Thunderbird and attempt to interact with the Thunderbird
  menu, which is in the top-left corner of #2. Because Firefox still has
  the focus, I can not immediately access Thunderbird's menus. The Unity
  menu bar stays blank. This is confusing, but not the end of the world.
  It gets worse when the user discovers that clicking on the Unity menu
  bar that is positioned above Thunderbird does not cause Thunderbird to
  obtain focus. In this situation, the idea that the Unity menu bar is a
  title bar and menu breaks down because I can not give Thunderbird
  focus using the maximized title bar. The only way to switch focus to
  Thunderbird involves selecting some non-functional chrome in the
  Thunderbird window. Once I have clicked on Thunderbird, it has the
  focus and the menus and title bar behave as expected.

  This is similar to bug #716177 but the recent fixes don't seem to have
  the desired affect.

  Metacity had the option to have focus follow the mouse. In most use
  cases, this is incredibly frustrating. But, when using maximized
  windows in dual monitor set ups, this is actually much more natural.
  Unity should have some way of detecting when it should switch gears
  and allow focus to follow mouse and when it should wait for a click to
  switch focus.

  I hope this all makes sense.

  Desired solution:

  - When a user has a maximised application open on a second monitor,
  and a different window is in focus, clicking on any empty area in the
  second monitor top bar should bring the non-focused application that
  is currently maximised on the second monitor in to focus.

  - When a user has a maximised application open on a second monitor,
  and a different window is in focus, the normal 'drag any empty area in
  the top bar downwards to shift window from maximised to restored
  state' behaviour should apply.  (see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net

  Currently there seems to be some very mild tinting, but it is not
  strong enough.  The colour needs to come through a lot clearer, again
  compare implementation with the visual design linked to above

  The need for this tinting is most apparent when light, bright and
  colourful wallpapers are chosen.  Wallpapers that are darker or more
  monochromatic, or have a dark strip on the right hand side are less
  susceptible.

  Desired resolution:
  The Nautilus Launcher quicklist should list all the bookmarks displayed 
inside Nautilus in the 'Places' sidebar.  This list needs to be dynamic, so 
that if user changes their bookmark, their new bookmarks are reflected in the 
quicklist.  In addition, a 'Open a new window' option should be added to the 
top of the quicklist.

Bug description:
  The SUPER+D shortcut to minimise all windows works on some computers
  but not on others, perhaps due to the upgrade process carrying over
  previous keyboard shortcut settings???  As part of the 12.04 upgrade
  process, SUPER+D should be mapped to 'minimise all windows' so that
  this shortcut works on both computers that are upgraded as well as on
  fresh installs.

  Desired solution:

  - Ensure that all of the keyboard shortcuts detailed in the following
  google doc work on all computers that are upgraded to 12.04 (in
  addition to working on fresh installs).  If a existing keyboard
  shortcut setting conflicts with one of the shortcuts detailed here,
  the existing keyboard shortcut should be overwritten.  However where
  there is no conflict between the existing keyboard shortcuts and the
  new shortcuts, the existing shortcuts should always be preserved.

Bug description:
  The eight icons displayed on the Dash Home screen before a search is
  performed need to be removed.  They no longer serve a relevant purpose
  with the Dash and Launcher performing all required launching
  functions.  Additionally user testing has shown that they are a cause
  of confusion and difficulty, as they launch programs but lack the
  other features inherent to the other icons that are present in the
  dash.

  Desired Solution:
  - Remove the 8 large icon links on the Dash Home

  Implement the following two options for user testing, with a means to
  toggle between the two options for user testing:

  - Option 1: Replace with a default view (as used by the other Lenses)
  showing the following category headers: "Recently Used Apps" (excludes
  apps currently in the Launcher), "Recent Files", and "Recent
  Downloads". The icons used for the category headers should be the same
  as used for the equivalent category headers in the Lenses (except, the
  music lens should collate Songs and Albums into one Music category).

  - Option 2: Do not replace the icons with anything, the Dash should
  vertically resize.

  IMPLEMENTATION STATUS:
  Everything mostly working. Except for the first item below we are about ready 
to merge-propose:

  - Add a few more tests cases to the rather complex HomeLens class

  - Music lens to collate results into one category (wip by mhr3)

  - Recent Apps doesn't filter out running apps that are not favorites
  (wip by mhr3)

  - Unity2d enablement (should be easy, by design of the HomeLens class)

  The options in the "filter results" section are the wrong size,
  aligned incorrectly, and the button outline width is incorrect.

  See file_lens_filters.png (attached to this bug)

  The issues are:
  - The "All" button is the wrong shape (botten w=48px h=30px incl. 1px 
line-width or 2px for selected state)
  - The spacing below the row which contains the 'category title' (e.g. "Last 
modified", "Type", etc...) and the "All" button, and the first row of filters 
is far too large. (distance all-button to first row of genre-button 12px)
  - There is not enough margin between the options on the right hand side of 
the filter options and the edge of the Dash (needs to be 15px)
  - The outline used for the buttons is too bright (ping chaotic or rosie on 
IRC for the value).  These lines should have some transparency and appear much 
fainter, see design above.
  - the separator line between categories is 2px high when it should be 1px 
high (use a generared texture with a 1px line to avoid this)
  - In the file lens there should not be a scroll bar to the right of the 
filters.  This is appearing because the vertical spacing is wrong (spacing 
between genre-buttons needs to be 12px vert. and 10px horiz).
  - The range selectors ('size' and 'decade') are both far too short (same 
height as the genre buttons, 30px incl. outline, some systems do have this 
working already... but why?)
  - a separator is displayed below at the very end of the filters, this needs 
to be removed (there should never be a separator at the end)
  - the highlight on active buttons is too opaque (ping chaotic or rosie on IRC 
for exact value)

Bug description:
  In the System Settings-Displays panel, Launcher placement can be set
  by dragging a vertical black bar representing the Launcher onto the
  chosen display. This sets the primary display, which in turn
  determines the placement of the Launcher (when only one is displayed).

  The horizontal black bars which represent the Menu bar, and have
  previously provided the way to specify the primary display, should now
  be removed. Menu bars are displayed on every display and hence the
  horizontal bars no longer have any utility in the arrangement widget.

  1. Make sure the Launcher is hidden
  2. Move the pointer to the bottom-left pixel of the screen (or a couple of

  Current incorrect behaviour:
  - Launcher does not reveal

  Desired behaviour:
  - The Launcher should reveal itself in response to the pointer being 
positioned *anywhere* on the far left of the screen.  This includes the bottom 
5 or so pixels on the far left.
  - Note that the area occupied by the 'close' window decoration should not 
reveal the launcher as this would conflict with bug

Bug description:
  The placement of the options 'Launcher placement' and 'Sticky edges' is 
misleading, as they are grouped with other *per-display* options such as 
Resolution and Rotation.
  As these options globally affect the entire display setup, they should be 
separated from the per-display options.

  The suggested solution is shown in the attached image
  'globalOptionsPlacement.png'

  Following the 'Rotation' drop-down list there is a vertical gap of 12px.
  There then follows a 2px wide rule, #B8B8B8 RGB(184, 184, 184) for the top 
colour and #FCFCFC RGB(252, 252, 252) for the bottom colour. If there is 
already a separator widget which provides this type of appearance, it can be 
used instead.
  Another vertical gap of 12px follows the rule, followed by the 'Launcher 
placement' drop-down list.

  occurred which shut down evolution. Now every time I try to launch
  evolution it starts to launch then just stops and exits.

  evolution it starts to launch then just stops and exits.

  I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx updated. I do not have much

I figured out the problem. When I upgraded to precise, totem did not
upgrade properly and I was left with oneirc totem that was broken. After
uninstalling all totem packages and reinstalling precise totem,
everything works.

  This got spawned from bug 955147.
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter/LaunchingApplications decided
  to add newly installed applications to the launcher by default.

  This new concept essentially admits defeat that new users do not know
  about the dash. This started last cycle with moving the control-center
  icon into the launcher (thereby making it overflow on netbook
  screens), which already spawned a large discussion. Now this proposes
  to throw all limits over board and add tons of new icons to the
  launcher; NB that we make it very easy to install lots of new apps,
  and we go through great lengths to make it possible to create, find,
  and install third-party apps even post-release.

  Now, this approach works around a temporary 5 minute question ("where
  does that app go"?), not by giving a 5-minute answer (quick tutorial
  or hint application which opens up the first couple of times), but by
  essentially redefining what the launcher is: a place where all
  applications go. This has several problems:

   * Our launcher just isn't built for that -- it's efficient and useful
  for up to 10 to 20 icons, depending on your screen size. But after
  that it folds, and exponentially gets harder to use. It doesn't have
  text to describe the applications, does not have a stable order, and
  is just one-dimensional.

   * It does not have most of the applications that are installed by
  default -- how do people find that?

   * It teachs the wrong thing -- that the launcher is the place for all
  apps. It drives people further away from the dash, thereby aggravating
  the learning problem instead of solving it.

   * It optimizes a thing which represents 0.5% of the workload [1]
  at the expense of making the other 99.5% much worse.

  The spec itself points out that this "relies on heavy users removing
  unwanted launchers". Given how the launcher works, anyone who installs
  more than ~ 10 apps is a "heavy user", i. e. quite a large part of
  users.

  The flaw in that spec is the conclusion it draws from the fact that
  users are not able to figure out how the dash works: You rely on users
  being able to remove apps again, but then they would again need to use
  the dash to start these applications, a capability you just denied
  them.

  
  So in summary, this turns the launcher into something like the app launcher 
that e. g. Android has -- place for all application. But as it's not built for 
this and there are no improvements for at least mitigating the effects of this 
change.

  Making the launcher useful to hold an arbitrary number of apps
  requires it to become two-dimensional, sorted, searchable, and touch
  friendly. We already have that -- the dash. So if we want to go that
  direction, could we just not use the dash as we have it, and instead
  change how to invoke it?

  
  [1] Assuming a very pessimistic scenario: using Ubuntu for two hours a day 
for a year, and 50% not finding out how the dash works in 5 minutes.

  All the gtk open / save dilaogs (for example) doesn't support
  minimization, but when they're maximized in unity the minimize button
  is there and not disabled.

  To reproduce:
  1) Open gedit
  2) Do Ctrl+S or Ctrl+O to open a save/open dialog (as you can see in metacity 
it has no minimize button)
  3) Maximize it in unity
  4) Press the minimize button: nothing happens, so the button should be 
disabled.

  Wanted behavior:
   - The minimize button is shown, but is set as disabled.

  maximise, the launcher reveal is triggered.  The Launcher reveal
  should be blocked whenever the user is dragging windows. However the

  semi-maximise on the monitor edgees between two monitors in a multi-
  monitor environment.

  Using ctrl+alt+f1 to log into a console works. Doing sudo service
  lightdm stop followed by sudo service lightdm start just moves focus
  to the black screen with the boot messages, but lightdm does not
  start. I have to issue sudo reboot to restart the computer to be able
  to login.

Upgrades deal with this fine (by removing the old packages), and they
never worked right in the first place, so I see no point in release
noting that we're removing packages that no one could have previously
successfully used anyway.  As such, I'm marking the release-notes task
invalid, but leaving the bug open for later
investigation/porting/whatever.

Is there any chance gnome-keyring:i386 will be fixed before the final
release of 12.04 in a couple of days?  I can't use FL Studio with WINE
until this gets fixed.
