I was trying to find out what we have available now in terms of flyers.
Drew, are all your latest flyers somewhere on CWiki?

Finding them on Google Drive is complex and I'm not sure they are the
latest version, so it would be great if you could upload all of them to

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Marketing+Campaign+Material

(you now have permission to edit and remove attachments on CWiki).

Re: University Student Promotional Flyer ( was: Re: Yet another flyer)

2013-09-20 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

Wanted to update those file on confluence, apparently I'm unable with my
account, to delete attachments I've uploaded, (so I take it from reading
the Atlassian docs) which sorta makes sense I suppose, but I can update
them and with that.

Updated the three-up card piece at:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/34022580/ThreeUp_GI_rays2.pdf
[note I seem to have not copied the odt file to the thumbdrive, so that
update will need to wait till Monday]
This piece is constructed with 6 independent frames so that it would be
easy for someone to use it and generate a full page of any single card
design.

Also added this file, as a proposal for a general branding motif I would
like to use going forward with this small set of items:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/34022580/oRBS.pdf

ALSO - that would be my proposal for an NGO focused piece, if the text
seems familiar..it should as I borrowed from the WHY web pages.

The question was asked how this brochure would look in Grayscale (off a
copier I assume) so part of the change in graphics design was to
facilitate that and here is rough estimation of how that would look:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/34022580/oRBS.png

Finally, I added to possible web graphics using the ORB as motif:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/34022580/AOO-4_0_1-explore_blog.gif
and
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/34022580/AOO-4_0_1-explore.gif

Unfortunately they don't look so great after Google enhances them...arrgh,
so updates for both on Monday.

Thanks

//drew

This is a good approach. For the time being, Drew could also attach his

Well, hows about we get Google out of the middle.

Take a look at these pieces
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpageattachments.action?pageId=34022580

I've changed the fonts from M+ to, Bitstream Vera Sans for headers and
Times New Roman for body text, so that folks can actually open the odt file.

Yes, I've added a few new pieces, all with what is becoming a common theme
of sorts 'Explore Apache OpenOffice' - using a minimal branding (no wave,
no wire frame, no dots [yet ;])

I will put them all to a single wiki page in the next few days and point
folks to that.

For now, I've just grabbed the RC2 build and will give Base
w/(updated)MySQL_connector as good an exercise as I can tonight.

As for the things I've found already, they are all intermittent (though
with some they persist till one fixes the corrupted file) so not really
worth an update to the issue tracker yet, I suppose. Would still like to
know where the darn crash reports are on this Vista system, but I have

Howdy Rob,

Good stuff, all - I had in mind also too put up a template version of the
file, with the 5 columns other then 'why' as boilerplate, and perhaps the
section on ODF compliance, and an empty frame for the bullet items, the
persona points of interest.

Anyway - next week on that and I'll come back to this thread again, then.

Thanks much

We do have a marketing page:

http://www.openoffice.org/marketing/

But the same idea applies there. A file on the website, as a binary
attachment is still hard to find, compared to a website rich in
keywords that is indexed by search engines.

Why not a page "Marketing", directly on the website, for instance after

Another one for your collection, but in French. Its goal is to promote the
use of portable applications by Windows users. This is the basis of a
presentation (clearly announced as not official) of the AOO and Educoo
projets that I have to do next year. Only for info.

If you see some branding issue, please let me know, these questions are not
always easy to detect, I find.

The key is to extend your targeted persona-based approach (which is a
very smart approach) with a web page (or a wiki page) that is equally
targeted and rich in relevant keywords, so it is findable in
Google/Bing for someone looking for that kind of material. The
brochure could then be linked to from that page.

We would then have a "call to action" in the form of a blog post, that
we could further publicize via Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Re: University Student Promotional Flyer ( was: Re: Yet another flyer)

2013-09-09 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

No the problem was I forgot my password and reset it, then I couldn't get
past the cpatcha - today, I'm in...so it likely was fat fingers on my part.

As for where to put this stuff. I don't know, it doesn't do much good if
folks A) don't know it exists and B) don't actually hand them out.

I was thinking that as an example the university student flyer might be
worth a post to the social media sites something along the lines of:
Are you a university student? Do you use AOO? Would like to promote it? It
is as easy as taking this <> pdf file, printing a few copies and
distributing them on your campus, (school library, student union, etc).

That would be good for a one time push, then it's just a matter of having
this stuff reasonably easy to find for folks coming along later - but then
there lay the trick ;)

It's a very nice improvement over the existing leaflet. And a good idea
to have a few different types of leaflet (all as PDF and ODT) ready to
use for different targets.

I tried to put this on confluence BTW, but am having problems logging on

What kind of problems? If you used your old @openoffice.org account for
the cwiki, you must ask infrastruct...@apache.org to change your e-mail
address. Symptom: if you login, you cannot access content (not even read
the pages available to unauthenticated visitors, let alone edit them).

So - If someone wants to move it to the cwiki, please do

Can you suggest a specific page that your leaflets should be attached to?

  Andrea.

University Student Promotional Flyer ( was: Re: Yet another flyer)

2013-09-04 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

Alright, I wanted to focus on specific users or scenarios regarding this
printed promo material - the earlier flyer skewed towards large user count
scenarios, so went towards the other end of the spectrum.

Started with the persona of an individual student, decided that was too
broad also - College students, also thought this too broad - so, settled my
focus on an Individual university student / teaching aid / professor,
likely not in the CS field (not looking for developers here, it is for all
intent a sales/marketing piece), is at the point in the academic career
where the power features of the tools are being needed and I would think
they are (or want to believe they are) socially responsible.

Anyway, as you can see I'm in long winded mode - short of it
Here is the PDF of what I think is the first finished piece/ First Draft -
I tried to put this on confluence BTW, but am having problems logging on,
I'll try again later on that - for now here it is on google again:
 PDF
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx7ZNEXlmR0INm5IZzQwQXRodGM
ODT
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx7ZNEXlmR0IVmJ3QzVDNjQyaHc

So - If someone wants to move it to the cwiki, please do, hmmm Apache
license of couse [suppose I should add that in the properties, huh?]
otherwise I'll try reseting my password there again, later.

As for content - well, what do you think? I know you all can help make it
better.

Next up SME...
