[dev] Japan Earthquake: Kazunari Hirano needs our help
OpenOffice.org Community, our long term friend and OOo contributer Kazunari Hirano from Japan lives in Ichinoseki (http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/201103/18/84/a0005484_21312387.jpg), which has been heavily shaken by the earthquake on March 11th. Ichinoseki is also located in the direct back-country of the coast areas of Rikuzentakada and Ofunato which have been devastated by the tsunami. Hundred thousands of people lost their homes and are still in need of an appropriate shelter. Now, Kazunari wants to prepare his little school as an emergency accommodation for evacuees. For the details please read: http://openoffice.exblog.jp/12298764/ What Kazunari needs most is money to take care of the expenses for his generous venture. For this reason, we are collecting donations for Kazunari using the channels of Team OpenOffice.org e.V.. You can send money via PayPal, credit card, bank transfer or check. For details please refer: http://contributing.openoffice.org/donate.html Every donation, that indicates the intended purpose with Earthquake Japan or similar keywords will go directly to Kazunari. *Please help Kazunari to help others!* This is a great opportunity to make donations for Japanese earthquake victims, knowing where the money goes and as well avoiding loss due to administrative expenses as they occur in larger relief organizations. Best regards, Peter (OpenOffice.org Marketing Project) P.S.: Forwarding this call for donations is of course welcome. -- - To unsubscribe send email to dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands send email to sy...@openoffice.org with Subject: help

Re: [dev] Proposal of new project for UOF
Hi Li Heng, this is indeed good news. I'm sure, that will make OOo even more successful, especially in the Chinese market, of course. :-) Best regards, Peter LiHeng wrote: Hi ALL, UOF is a Chinese document format developed by Chinese government and all elements of UOF with Chinese tag-name and it is updated frequently in current period, a lots of new feature would be add into this standard. To launch a separate project of UOF may focus on special features of China and Chinese market, and all of office software provider who based on OpenOffice.org in China can maintain only one project of UOF interoperability for OpenOffice.org, and we can get the best interoperability of UOF in China. *There are 2 products, RedOffice CS2C, based OpenOffice.org have supported UOF format. *And IBM Symphony has supported UOF too. *Several universities are also focus on UOF, OOXML and ODF converters. Proposal of UOF Interoperability Project Summary UOF is a Chinese developed open standard for 'office' applications. It includes word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet modules, and is made up of GUI, API, and format specifications. The document format described uses XML contained in a compressed file container. This project improve the interoperability of UOF, include all features, GUI and API and solve the problems in Chinese office application system. UOF is not in same structure of ODF, some features(such as Media Object and Conditional format of Spreadsheet ) can not transform well only with XSLT, so we need to develop a set of extensions to transform them into a friendly structure first. For UOF API we must bind a bundle of interfaces and services on OpenOffice.org in order to OpenOffice.org can be integrated into office system with UOF API. The mission of this project is improving the interoperability of UOF.We're going in for transforming the format between UOF and ODF with XSLT.There's an UOF filter including an extension to solve some very important problems with Calc and OLE. Scope 1.To develop and maintain the filters for every UOF version. Include XSLT template and a set extensions. 2.To develop and maintain all IDL and services of UOF APIs 3.To Implement the Chinese special features of UOF in OpenOffice.org 4.To collect the suggestions on UOF from community and participate in editing of UOF We will open all XSLT and filter(now as a extension) source code we have done. And to work on new version of UOF with all contributors. Now we are working on transforming the format between UOF2.0 and ODF with XSLT stylesheet, and the new features about media object. UOF2.0 is multiple documents construction and will be a kind of compression format. Each document is a XML file using Chinese tags. We should convert all documents into a FlatXML which could present all tags of different documents, and then convert the FlatXML file into ODF with XSLT stylesheet. And in the other conversion direction ,firstly,ODF will be converted into multiple documents with XSLT stylesheet, and then the multiple documents will be packed into UOF2.0 format. Hi Kirill, thanks a lot for sending the proposal. It will surely get my vote. Unfortunately, it's unlikely, that you get feedback from the ODF TC there. There's is a policy, that OASIS comment lists are exclusively for public comments, but it's not intended to be used for discussions between a technical committee and the general public. To what I understand this has a legal background, because feedback you give is under an 'Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy'. http://www.oasis-open.org/who/intellectualproperty.php INAL, so please excuse me, that I'm not trying to explain it. ;-) (wanted to give an example, but found it rather clumsy than enlightening, hence deleted it again) Best regards, Peter Kirill Palagin wrote: Hello Peter, Mathias, everybody. [dev] Re: OOoCon 2008 - Please help the organizational team in the same way they are trying to help you
Dear OOo community, firstly, I want to thank you for your feedback. A lot of people have registered themselves this week. We also found out, that a lot of spam filters in Western countries seem to trash mails from Chinese mail servers by default. Flora is now using a gmail account to get in touch with you. HOWEVER, I still have to pressurize the business visa process. This autumn a lot of conferences are hosted in Beijing, hence the people doing the paperwork at the public administrations are quite busy. To really speed up, it would be desirable if we can bypass the registration. Hence, I would like to ask you to send the data, that we need for the business visa paperwork directly. These data are: Full Name of attendee Postal address Nationality Profession Passport Number Applying Visa from which country Entering China from which country Delivery address for the invitation letter (if not postal address) E-Mail address OOo user name (optional) Please send the data either to: Feng Bingbing aka Flora [EMAIL PROTECTED] or me [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you do not like to send these data by email, please get in touch with Flora. She will provide a fax number, telephone number or whatever you prefer to get your data to us. The most important thing is to start the paperwork for the invitation letters now, it doesn't matter if you really using it in the end. Best regards, Peter Peter Junge wrote: Dear OOo community, everyone who wants to attend the OOoCon in Beijing November 5th to 7th 2008, please read this completely and carefully. This years' OpenOffice.org Conference is a special challenge for the organizational team, because we have to help about 200 (maybe more) OOo contributors from all over the globe to enter China with an appropriate visa and care about their accommodation by booking affordable hotel rooms. For this reason we want to kindly remind you, that we cannot accomplish our mission successfully, if anyone comes at us last minute. Re: [dev] limit to the size of paste content in Spreadsheet
Hi, this will probably happen in every OOo version starting even before 1.0. This is AFAIK a design limit of the Calc core and known for years. Fixing it would mean several months of work. Oldest filed report seems to be issue 21243, see: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=21243 However, I am sure it was known before issue #1. ;-) Best regards, Peter Pei Feng Lin wrote: Hi Meiying, with what version and os does this issue happen? [dev] OOoCon 2008 organizational team needs your help (desperately)
Dear OOo Community, (especially those of you, who are potential attendees of the OOoCon 2008 in Beijing, November 5 to 7) please excuse to repeatedly bothering you with such messages and cross-posting it to quite a bunch of lists. Please follow up with any discussion at [EMAIL PROTECTED]. The organizational team in Beijing needs *your* *action* in order to quantify the number of people, who will attend the OOoCon in Beijing form November 5 to 7. We need this information for many reasons. Most important for you, we will base our negotiations on discounted flight tickets on it. We have been in touch with airlines so far, but talks always stall, because they want to know an estimated number of attendees and an overview on their origin before talking about special conditions. So, please help us and take our pre-registration survey at: http://surveytest.services.openoffice.org/surveys/index.php?sid=74227lang=en We would like to ask everyone, who is considering to visit the OOoCon in Beijing, to to join by answering the following questions: - What is your name? - What is your email address? - What is your nationality? - How likely is your attendance at the OOoCon in Beijing? [100% / 75% / 50% / 25%] We will generate some statistics from that. - What is your background of visiting the OOoCon? [Large business, e.g. Sun (1) / Small business (2) / Private Contributer with a special function at OOo, e.g. Project Lead (3) / Hobbyist (4)] - Last but not least, I would also like to know, if you are interested to attend some presentations about FOSS in China besides OOo. If an appropriate number of you is indeed curious, we will try to have some speakers available at Tuesday (Nov 4) before the main conference. Besides gathering information for negotiations of discounted flights, we also want to use the survey to approach the people, who completed it, directly and help them with their visa applications. This is surely another main benefit to take part in the survey. Best regards, Peter -- Peter Junge OpenOffice.org Annual Conference Beijing 2008 Organizational Team I want *YOU* to come to Beijing! [dev] Thank you for voting Beijing
Dear OpenOffice.org community, on the behalf of the proposing team, I would to like to thank you all for putting your trust in Beijing to host the 2008 OpenOffice.org Annual Conference. Having the OOoCon for the first time in Beijing means, that there will be a lot of attendees, who couldn't make it to Europe in the years before. We have big neighbor communities in Korea and Japan, that will be able to reach the OOoCon easily this. We also heard some great success stories over the last couple of weeks, especially from Vietnam and Cambodia, and I deeply hope, they will be told in-depth by the people who did it, in Beijing. Of course, this all means too, that now the original European community will now face the same issue of traveling to a remote location. Please be assured, that we will do everything we can to enable a very large number of people to come to Beijing. I hope to see you all of you at the OOoCon 2008 to celebrate both the community and the product. We will enter China trough the front door and make a lot of noise, so everybody can hear OpenOffice.org has arrived at a new shore. Please write your interest as precise as possible. If you also tell us something about yourself, for example your major, the experienced contributers might be able to help you to find the best choice for you. With the help of Nikolai we are now able to provide a proposal for a modified version of the child workspace policies on http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/CWS_Policies in the section 'Making the CWS Ready for QA, Approved by QA and Nominated for Integration', the role of the QA-representative is defined wrong.
