Re: [VOTE] Drop support for Java 5 in Tapestry 5.4 (2nd attempt)
Right, that's the principle but not a strict requirement. I don't want us to get stuck with procedural issues. Voting is supposed to help us with coding, not prevent it. We don't vote on all code changes and in this case, we wanted to ask the community's opinion and it looks we have it. We can go by the lazy-consensus as well, I see that Thiago just copied the paragraph in his email. I guess lazy consensus apply here. If I'm correct, the answer is no, it won't fail. From http://www.apache.org/foundation/voting.html: "Votes on code modifications follow a different model. In this scenario, a negative vote constitutes a veto , which cannot be overridden. Again, this model may be modified by a lazy consensus declaration when the request for a vote is raised, but the full-stop nature of a negative vote is unchanged. Under normal (non-lazy consensus) conditions, the proposal requires three positive votes and no negative ones in order to pass; if it fails to garner the requisite amount of support, it doesn't -- and typically is either withdrawn, modified, or simply allowed to languish as an open issue until someone gets around to removing it." -- Thiago H. de Paula Figueiredo Tapestry, Java and Hibernate consultant and developer http://machina.com.br - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@tapestry.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@tapestry.apache.org

I thought that only PMC members can cast binding votes, so, if none of the others vote +1, the vote will eventually fail?
Re: [VOTE] Drop support for Java 5 in Tapestry 5.4 (2nd attempt)
To get on with this, Jochen please change your vote to binding and close the vote as successful. We don't want to be paralyzed by non-voting when there are no votes against. [VOTE] Drop support for Java 5 in Tapestry 5.4 (2nd attempt)
There have been discussions whether we want to keep compatibility with Java 5 for the upcoming 5.4 release. Java 5 is EOSL since October 2009. While requiring Java 6 would not bring us much benefits, there might be some libraries that we cannot use because they do not support Java 5. Also, we'd spare ourselves some efforts not having to support Java 5 anymore. The vote will run for 3 days and, if it succeeds, I will increase the minimum required Java version to 1.6.
