I had already starred your messages in that thread :)

Figuring out the descriptions has been the hardest part so far.

Oh, and with the two default rules I was notified about a
comment/karma on one of my packages. I'll keep an eye on everything
for now and tweak things along the way.

Re: Proposal to reduce anti-bundling requirements

I'm putting up another pass at the proposal, as there were some
critical typographical errors in the last one that caused confusion
(there were a couple places where I wrote "bundled" and meant
"unbundled" and the reverse). This revised version should be clearer.

=== Mandatory ===
* The Fedora Base Working Group has been tasked with defining the base
platform of Fedora since its inception. As part of this proposal, we
set a deadline for them to provide (and maintain) a specific list of
critical path packages. The critical path set is not required to be
self-hosting.
* Working Groups for the separate Editions may voluntarily add
packages into the critical path atop the Base WG requirements.
* All packages in the critical path must obey the current strict
bundling rules. Packages in the critical path that require bundling
must continue to seek exceptions from the Fedora Packaging Committee.
* All packages not in the critical path whose upstreams allow them to
be build against system libraries must be built against system libraries
.
* All packages not in the critical path whose upstreams have no
mechanism to build against system libraries must be contacted publicly
about a path to supporting system libraries. If upstream refuses, this
must be recorded in the spec file using a persistent mechanism to be
clarified in the packaging guidelines.
* All packages not in the critical path whose upstreams have no
mechanism to build against system libraries may opt to carry bundled
libraries, but if they do, they must include Provides:
bundled() = in their RPM spec file.

=== Strongly Recommended ===
* Packages in the critical path should be re-reviewed every two years
(possibly as a Flock workshop) to avoid unintentional divergence from
the policies.

Note: the term "critical path" is reused from a retired Fedora
packaging concept, but it is *not* representing the same set of
packages. We may need to come up with a more distinct term, but I
can't think of a better choice at this moment. Please avoid repainting
this shed.

you can do enough: you can write a patch and send it here or ask for

Ahh yes, right you are. I totally misunderstood the question.

Martin (added you back to CC as you don't seem to be subscribed to the
devel list) -- if you want to avoid retiring vdr-live, epoch bumping
tntnet and cxxtools back to 2.2 sounds about right to me too, especially
given that they only appear to be used by vdr-live.

Bumping the Epoch tag to 1 in a spec file would make rpm consider 2.2
newer than 2.3rc1, so that you can submit the "newer" 1:2.2 as a F23
update that correctly replaces the "older" 0:2.3rc1 build.

The list of maintainers doesn't look right. I have no commit access to
this package for F23 (or Rawhide) [1]. I am being BCC'ed when I can't do
anything :(

[Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2015-10-05 Fedora QA Meeting

2015-10-05 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel Monday's QA meeting. I think
everything's pretty much on track - we have Final TC1 to test, might be
a TC2 coming this week, and there'll be Cinnamon Test Day on Thursday.
There'll be a blocker review meeting at 1600 UTC.

If anyone does have something they think could do with meeting
discussion, please do reply to this mail and we can get together ahead
of the blocker review meeting!

A flaw in the parsing of email address lists was found in perl-Email-Address:

Algorithmic complexity vulnerability in Address.pm in the Email-Address module
1.908 and earlier for Perl allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service
(CPU consumption) via a crafted string containing a list of e-mail addresses in
conjunction with parenthesis characters that can be associated with nested
comments. NOTE: the default configuration in 1.908 mitigates this vulnerability
but misparses certain realistic comments.

libpng just call ldconfig
texlive-base just remove one directory and return true
There is hardly something to fail.

I strongly suspect SELinux. It does not happen on my workstation (with SELinux
disabled) and it does not happen on
freshly installed F22 machine with SELinux on.

Do you have something in audit.log?

Upgrade path question

2015-10-05 Thread Sandro Mani

Hi

Quick upgrade path question: I intend to retire the tesseract-langpack
package, which provides many tesseract-langpack-$lang subpackages, and
instead have the main tesseract package to provide these, with the same
name. The version of the tesseract-langpack-$lang subpackages increases
in the process.

Is my understanding right that it is not necessary for the new
tesseract-lanpack-$lang packages to obsolete the old ones?

Thanks
Sandro

My machine has had selinux=permissive the entire time. No AVCs in audit.log
anyways.

Also another data point: qemu 'fedpkg mockbuild' reproduces this issue in a
fresh f23 VM install as well.

It's not... yet. ;)

Hopefully it will be someday soon. The bugzilla folks have (rightly,
IMHO) been concentrating on making things faster and more robust before
working on things like message bus integration.

[Bug 1268823] New: Rebuild perl-Devel-Cover against the latest perl in stable branches

2015-10-05 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1268823

Bug ID: 1268823
Summary: Rebuild perl-Devel-Cover against the latest perl in
stable branches
   Product: Fedora
   Version: 21
 Component: perl-Devel-Cover
  Assignee: tcall...@redhat.com
  Reporter: psab...@redhat.com
QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org,
tcall...@redhat.com

Description of problem:
Devel::Cover complains it was built against a different version of perl in both
f21 and f22. This is because both perls were updated to the latest revisions.

* f21 D::C was built against 5.18.2 but f21 ships 5.18.4 now
* f22 D::C was built against 5.20.2 but f22 ships 5.20.3 now

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
perl-Devel-Cover-1.03-5.fc21.x86_64
perl-Devel-Cover-1.17-1.fc22.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
Run `cover -test' on any module, e.g.:
1. fedpkg clone perl-File-Temp && cd perl-File-Temp
2. fedpkg prep && cd File-Temp-*
3. perl Makefile.PL && cover -test

Actual results:
t/00-report-prereqs.t ..
This version of Devel::Cover was built with Perl version 5.018002.
It is now being run with Perl version 5.018004.
Attempting to make adjustments, but you may find that some of your modules do
not have coverage data collected. You may need to alter the +-inc, +-ignore
and +-select options.

Expected results:
cover runs without any warnings and possible unexpected breakage.

Additional info:
Simple rebuilds should be sufficient.

[Bug 1268828] New: RFE: On 32 bit platforms, enable -Duse64bitint and maybe also -Duselongdouble

2015-10-05 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1268828

Bug ID: 1268828
Summary: RFE: On 32 bit platforms, enable -Duse64bitint and

   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide

Description of problem:

Perl on Fedora 32 bit platforms uses 32 bit ints, and on 64 bit
platforms uses 64 bit ints.

This causes some problems when we express size-in-bytes in some
programs -- it is easy for these kind of programs to work fine on
the common 64 bit platform, but to fail to work in bad ways (rounding
errors or overflows) on 32 bit. Since 32 bit is comparatively rare,
these bugs can go unnoticed. An example of a program that will fail
like this is: http://git.annexia.org/?p=import-to-ovirt.git;a=tree

Also, Debian (since Wheezy) has enabled this option, so by making
this change we would be consistent with Debian & Ubuntu.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=310995

Some pros and cons described here:

  http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.perl5.porters/2010/04/msg158984.html

There is also interaction with another option (-Duselongdouble).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

perl-5.22.0-350.fc24

I was kind of hoping a Perl developer might jump in there, but perhaps
because this thread quite old, and has a confusing subject line, no
one has. Anyway I filed this bug:

Of course this is an ABI break, so could only be done when we
are doing a Perl mass rebuild.

Yes; depending on your dependencies (...yeah!) this could be highly
problematic. As you say, it imposes the requirement that all of your
dependencies in Fedora never begin to use new syscalls, and never use
syscalls in unexpected ways, over the supported lifetime of a Fedora
release, or bundle their updates with corresponding chrony updates if
they do. Frankly it's a recipe for disaster, given that many
maintainers submit major version updates in flagrant disregard for our
current updates policy, and using seccomp would require tightening the
updates policy much more (since it makes minor version updates quite
risky -- but we still want to do those...), but the security benefits
of seccomp are huge so it's possibly worth working towards

Random example: when I was testing WebKit's experimental seccomp mode
in Fedora 21, the maintainers of libxshmfence submitted an update to
start using the new syscall memfd_create() rather than putting shared
memory in /var/tmp. That's an acceptable update under all of our
guidelines, since that's an implementation detail that ordinarily
wouldn't affect programs, but it caused WebKit to crash on start, and
would have broken pretty much anything else using libxshmfence and
seccomp, since programs aren't going to have whitelisted a syscall that
was not previously used (and in this case, didn't even exist when it
was written). With chrony using seccomp, its dependencies must never do
such a thing (except in rawhide).

(Also fun is to try making the same list of filters work across
distros.)

So chrony might work perfectly now, but who knows how broken it will be
after a couple months of updates Well, you'll find out after
testing it in rawhide. Hope seccomp works better for you than it did
for me. Of course, for programs with few dependencies, there's not
really much problem.

Actually strict=True is default DNF behavior. You should add
`--setopt=strict=False`
to your command line [1] if you wanna skip unavailable / broken packages.

Self Introduction: Dominique Martinet

2015-10-05 Thread Dominique Martinet
Hi,

I'm a developper/sysadmin at CEA, a French research institute, mainly
working on HPC clusters - both maintenance and designing new ones.

More specifically, I'm in the Storage team (tape/Lustre HSM we're proud
of), and have been working on Infiniband developments for a few years
now.
These developments include a RDMA helper lib, libmooshika[1], which
comes with a few utilities and is used by nfs-ganesha[2] for its 9P/RDMA
layer, and for which I've just submitted a package inclusion review
request:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1268010

I'm also doing a bit more packaging for our clusters so I might be able
to lend a hand either co-maintaining products we use or taking a few
packages once I get an idea of how much time is required (I guess it
greatly depends on the packages themselves though)

I meant to add a link to the discussion on devel list. You
may not have seen it because it had a subject line that was
nothing to do with Perl.

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2015-October/thread.html#215324

Another program we used to have that was broken on 32 bit Perl was:

https://github.com/libguestfs/libguestfs/blob/stable-1.8/tools/virt-resize#L33

This program does a bunch of calculations involving partition sizes
in bytes, and float is no use because the calculations don't work
if the least significant bits get truncated.

I eventually rewrote it in a different programming language to get
around this.

Removing packages that have broken dependencies in F23 tree, v2

2015-10-05 Thread Kalev Lember
Hi all,

Here's another look at F23 broken dependencies. A number of packages
have been fixed last week, but there's also a new broken dependency,
CableSwig, due to gccxml retirement.

The goal is to ship Fedora releases with repos where all packages are
installable. On 2015-10-12, any packages that have remaining broken
dependencies are going to get automatically retired by Fedora release
engineering so that we can enter the Final Freeze with clean
repositories.

Based on today's Branched report [1], the following packages have
remaining broken dependencies (package maintainers BCC'd to this email):

I'm still unclear exactly what situations would count to suggest
examples, but it does look like the sort of thing that needs supporting
for HPC use.

Testing chrony seccomp support

2015-10-05 Thread Miroslav Lichvar
In chrony 2.2-pre1 was added support for system call filtering with
the kernel seccomp facility. In chrony it's mainly useful to reduce
the damage from attackers who can execute arbitrary code, e.g. prevent
gaining the root privileges through a kernel vulnerability.

The rawhide chrony package is now compiled with the seccomp support,
but the filtering is not enabled by default. The trouble is it has to
cover all system calls needed in all possible configurations of chrony
and all libraries it depends on, which is difficult and it may even
change over time as the libraries are updated.

I'm interested to know if this works in other configurations than what
I tried, especially non-default NSS configurations, and get an idea if
this could be enabled by default at some point.

If you would like to help with the testing:

1. echo 'OPTIONS="-F -1"' > /etc/sysconfig/chronyd
2. systemctl restart chronyd
3. occasionally check if chronyd is still running

If you see in the log that the process was killed with status=31/SYS,
it's a problem in the seccomp support. Please let me know it has
crashed for you. Unfortunately, abrt doesn't seem to catch these
crashes, even when /proc/sys/fs/suid_dumpable is set to 2.

For F22 and F23 there is a COPR repo with packages built from the
current development code:
https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/mlichvar/chrony/

Thanks,

You may want to read the last messages from me in this short thread:

  https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2015-August/thread.html#213311

To get more messages, touching the related filter "rules" may be
needed.

That's good to see for some of us.

In case you don't know, it's worth looking under
http://copr.fedoraproject.org/, as well as submitted reviews, for
existing packaging relevant to HPC. Unfortunately a search won't
necessarily find packages by name that are there, but we should avoid
duplicated work as much as possible.

[Bug 1268828] RFE: On 32 bit platforms, enable -Duse64bitint and maybe also -Duselongdouble

I don't know what your script does. It probably bails out when you pushes a
large file size into @virtual_sizes.

I have no problem with enabling use64bitint when upgrading to next perl 5.24 in
Fedora 25. (Although I'm not aware that i686 has SISD instructions for 64-bit
arithmetics. Isn't there a performance penalty with loading and storing
integers compounding of two registers?)

I do not want to enable uselongdouble. It has many issues and is often broken.

We will have to do some benchmarks.

For the mean time, you can use Big::Int or bigint, for occasional math.

F24 System Wide Change: NetworkManager 1.2

2015-10-05 Thread Jan Kurik
= Proposed System Wide Change: NetworkManager 1.2 =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/NetworkManager12

Change owner(s):
* Lubomir Rintel < lkundrak AT v3 DOT sk >

Update to NetworkManager to version 1.2

== Detailed Description ==
NetworkManager 1.2 will include significant changes and improvements:
* Port to GDBus
* New libnma library for GUIs
* New VPN services plugin API
* Support for multiple VPN connections with a single plugin
* VPN plugins ported to libnm & libnma
* CLI secret agent with support for VPN secrets
* Capability of editing VPN connections via the TUI interface
* Support for arbitrary software device (bond, bridge, vlan, team) hierarchy
* Support for managing container (LXC, Docker) connectivity
* RFC7217 stable privacy addressing
* CLI improvements, colors, significantly better command completion

== Scope ==
* Proposal owners: Update NetworkManager, connection editor and VPN
plugin packages.
* Other developers: We'll take care of porting the VPN property
plugins; the VPN plugin package maintainers should pull in the patches
or new upstream releases. The libnm-glib and libnm-gtk users (network
management tools in various desktop environments should port their
tools to libnm and libnma; but we're keeping the old libraries as
well.
* Release engineering: N/A (not needed for this Change)
* Policies and guidelines: N/A (not needed for this Change)
* Trademark approval: N/A (not needed for this Change)
