Re: [slim] Slow SqueezeBox 3 power-up
I tried turning on debugging for d_client and d_startup but there didn't seem to be anything obvious in the logs. There is no dates or times in the logs either, so difficult to work out where a delay may be occuring. I just tried to fire up both SB3's after them being powered down all day. My server was idle, but was not in standby - I had just finished working on it. Both SB3's (wired and wireless) took 10secs to startup. MrD, I think you will likely find that the hiss you hear will not be present when the same file is played through your transporter. My APE files won't even play with APE-->FLAC or APE-->WAV. When I enable ONLY APE-->MP3 (LAME), there is a terrible hissing / "white noise" sound and hardly any music is audible. Thanks both for this. I should have been more specific. I ripped my CDs into Flac using EAC & by doing so, the Chinese characters are not converted into a readable format in SB3. Re: [slim] SB3 chokes on 24/96
This has been discussed to some degree in the audiophile thread (Linn Records now doing Flac) http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34985 Bascially, you can play "24/96" flac files on the SB3 if you recode them in real-time as compression-level-0 as they are streaming. See comment #10 in bug #4886. While this essentially works, I feel the performance is worse than the same material playing at "16/44.1" if using an SB3. I find the noise floor rises considerably as a result of the way the SB3 down-samples a 96kHz stream to 48 kHz. I would down-sample the file using Audacity to 48 kHz and stream that result to the SB3. -Ron -- Ron F. *Squeezebox setup:* wireless SB3 -> CI Audio VDA.2 DAC + VAC.1 PSU *Main rig:* NAD 7600 + NAD 2600A -> Phase Tech PC-6.5 speakers *Headphone rig:* Headroom Max -> Sennheiser 650s *Other stuff:* NAD C542 CDP, NAD 6300 Tape, Monster 5100 Power conditioner, Outlaw Audio cables Ron F.'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5616 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20512 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Shipping to United Kingdom
Agree with Deadkenny on Parcelforce. On one occasion they put a card through someone else's door and then sent the package back to Hawaii when I did not collect it. Needless to say they sent it back surface mail but it did arrive back with the maker, three months later. My UPS package (a Sutherland Ph.d phono stage) referred to earlier arrived today. UPS rang me on Friday and took customs payment via CC over the phone - 23% of price - ouch! Happily I have been able to find a Transporter in the UK - ordered Friday, here this morning. Perhaps simbo was referring to the exchange rate itself - obviously they never charge interbank rate, it seems to be interbank + 3.5%. -- Mark Lanctot 'Sean Adams' Response-O-Matic checklist, patent pending!' Re: [slim] SlimServer won't start on Windows Home Server - no MySQL?
FWIW, I performed a standard SlimServer installation on my WHS box and it just worked. And it utomatically retstarts whenever I reboot the server (which I only do as part of my WHS evaluation; the box hasn't actually required a reboot). -- byKnight Really, it was like that when I got here. byKnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7011 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35233 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Slow SqueezeBox 3 power-up

I rather presume your server either being slow or gone to power saving mode. Once the box is powered up, can you power off/up with no delay at all or is it always that slow? [slim] Slow SqueezeBox 3 power-up
Hi, I have noticed my SB3's (I have two, one wired and one wireless) are taking a long time (30-60secs) to startup when pressing the Power button on my remote - i.e. going from standby to ON. I got the latest 6.5.2 nightly build last week to make sure I had the latest code, but it is still a problem. It seems to be worse when starting up 'cold'. Once started, I can switch from standby and back again instantly. I *think* the slow down may coincide with the purchase of my second SB3 (the wireless one in my bedroom). Is this likely? Is this a known problem? Is there anything I can do to improve things, as it is very frustrating when you want to listen to some music and you have to wait up to a minute before anything responds. NOTE: the delay is the same on both wired and wireless devices. -- SumnerBoy SumnerBoy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8924 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35264 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SqueezeFox - Slimserver extension for Firefox
Hi, great idea and thank you for your effort. Maybe I get something wrong but is it possible to set the Slimserver ip , user and password to control a remote Slimserver (ie still on my LAN but not the PC where the extension runs).
