Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't
Hmm, vexing isn't it. Worth a try though.. I downloaded the new version but it woudn't start. It said it was starting but it just never did. Maybe there is a clue in that or maybe there isn't I uninstalled it. Rebooted the old PC and reinstalled your currrent 6.5. For some reason it decided it didnt like where my music files were located and chose a directory that my music was not in. So.. I moved my music to that directory (as I hadn't tried that one yet) but it didn't work. Radio is fine. FLAC recorded files are fine. Old files just still wont play. Next and a prize for the wittiest. Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't
Hi Mark, Thanks again for responding. My 2 players have been hard booted, soft booted, cuddle booted and whispered to in to in tounges by sultry maidens (at great personal expence..) I've tried rebooting the PC then playing files or playing the files then rebooting the PC Still no luck. I think (though you can never be quite certain) that I've tried every combination of file / radio/ reboot / non boot / tickle stick play now. Any other ideas or boot file combinations? I'll send champagne or beer tokens whichever you prefer.. Hi, Sorry for the delay. I've been away / had no time. OK The problem still persists. Ive uninstalled AVG just in case. I have just installed Avast Home edition 4.7. Im not sure the AV software iusnt a red herring but this is a virtually clean insall now with hardly anything on this PC. Its just used as a music server running XP Pro. Just tried to play something. Here is the dubug code. Is this still looking the same. Im mystified. Your help is appreciated. Hi, Thanks, Im using none of those. I'm using (Grisoft)AVG Free edition. Which I was using before this happened. I haven't installed any other blockers though of course Win XP is using its firewall. As I said before though it may not be relevant to your point some files eg. new ones taken from CD using Flac are working. Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't
Hi, This problem is still with me. Radio is fine. New recordings are fine. All my music files recorded last year simply wont play. The fix of replacing the socketwrapper did work... for a while then the problem re-occured for no apparent reason. So I 'repaired-re-installed' my copy of XP and re-installed slimserver etc and that fixed it... and then it re-occured again nearly immediately. So I then re-stalled Win XP completely from scratch but the problem is still there on the new install. It's absolutely vexing. I've rolled back numerous full versions of slim server (and socketwrappers)and it makes no difference. I belive that its affecting all of the music files that were originally recorded using ITunes (whih is 210 out of 214 albums! Music Files that I recently added using FLAC / Winamp are fine as well as any radio streaming Any final suggestions as I really dont want to re-encode all my albums.. ? especially as a good many of them came off CD's that left with the ex I cant really ask to borrow them all again now can I. -T -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32902 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't
Hi, This is a bit weird and I'm sure its probably a Windows XP / OS fluck up but do any of you have any ideas please? All was fine Ive had no problems innearly a year and have two squeeseboxes. The other day I foolishly installed a new version Windows of Media Player on my PC. Anyway I coudn't get it to do what I wanted so I uninstalled it . Since that point Ive had no problems playing radio stations but if I try to play a music file slimserver says its playing it and the squeezbox shows its title and scrolls 'now playing, track title ect' Only it isn't actually playing? Its just holding it at the start of the track and doing nothing in silence. I have taken my PC back to an earlier restore point and just in case installed the new version of slimserver (6.5.1) and updated firmware on my slimservers. I've even done a special dance but no luck. Its really annoying. [slim] Re: More Radio Fun Alien BBC
Hi There, OK. I have two instances of slimserver. I don't run both at the same time. The first one is on the PC. I was intending to use just the PC for streaming originally. The reason for having the two setups now ive been having some network problems with drivers on the PC and so I am getting intermittant network dropouts whilst using it. My laptop suffers no such problems. Music files off either PC / Laptop are playing fine. Just to be really complicated I also have two squeesboxes that are synched. The problem is the same across both. To switch the squeesboxes to use either the PC or the laptop I tell it to use the different source stream under network settings / setup. I dont think thats an area of problem. Does that help? -T -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26931 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] More Radio Fun Alien BBC
Hi all, Sorry if this is just me being stupid. I have a laptop and also a PC as a dedicated music server both of which have slimserver installed with the correct version of Alien BBC as a plugin All has been fine listening to radio, music etc from either the server or the laptop. Both PC's are runing XP. Last night I got home and powered the lap top and went to listen to Radio 1 from Alien BBC and it woudn't work. The squeesbox said something like incorrect URL or stream and displayed the address for the stream but woudn't play. Hmm. I turned the laptop off and powered the other PC. I restarted the Squeesbox and connected to it and lo and behold Radio 1 (and the others) played. Nothing had been done to the laptop other than booting it up. It worked fine the day before and had been turned off normally.. I unistalled Slimserver on the laptop and loaded a fresh install. I re-installed Alien BBC and restarted it and tried again. It still wont play radio.. Thats any radio by the way not just Alien BBC channels. It does play if you test it on the laptop speakers. Eg is IS streaming the right address but the squeesbox isn't having it! This has happened once before for seemingly no reason and last time the reinstall sorted it. Any ideas? Will try it. Due to quality problems a plugin would be best though. I'm sure it will happen as it can't just be my thought.. can it? ;) Cheers -T -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26338 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

"SlimServer transmits audio over TCP/IP using the SlimProto protocol. Other programs don't know how to read this, and no plugins exist to record this" Does any one want a commision to write one? -T PS: Apologies if to do so would be a breach of licence. I'm not aware if it is or not. -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26338 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Well observed ;) The server is in the basement. My setups are some considerable distance away..and wireless. Hmmm And also it's a small dell propriety thang that I coudn't fit a decent sound card in. Hang on though I could string the sound out to the input on my laptop im typing this from coudn't I and then transfer the file to the server? Good work fella. its a start, but not neat and ideal. I shall try it. Aany more for anymore? Thanks -T PS: Now where's that audio cable? And what quality will I get... -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26338 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. I'm aware of legal issues and would not be using it for Pandora ect. The server I'm using to stream slimserver from has no audio capabilities Hence thee problem. I also have my squeezeboxes playing most of the time. I don't really want to be turning my server off just to listen to silence whilst recording things I can't hear. Any one else guys? Come on your're a clever lot ;) -- Tristan Tristan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26338 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Recording Radio Streams
Hi all, Does anyone know if there is a plugin or an additional program that will allow me to record radio that I'm listening to through a squeezbox on the PC which my slim server is running on. Or a work around. I would want to add the recorded file to my music folder for replaying through the squeezebox again later I downloaded a peice of software that said it would record any streams coming into my PC but it doesn't seem to like it when slimserver is running. I'd be very grateful for any ideas you may have.
