Re: [slim] Re: Web interface broken again in trunk

2005-06-13 Thread Charles Stanton
I don't see much in the Event Viewer and nothing that appears at the
times it breaks. I have seen this, which may be related:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 6/12/2005
Time: 8:59:19 PM
User: N/A
Computer: MUSICSRVR
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. The following information is part of the event: OpenService
failed: The specified service does not exist as an installed service
.
I also tried completly uninstalling SS and reinstalling the 6/12
nightly (since I had installed on top of 6.0.x). It seems a bit
better but bombed out last night at some unknown time. There was
nothing in the Event log during that period.

Any other suggestions? Thx.

Charles can you look in Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer and see
if there are some events related to SlimServer crashing? There
should be usefule information there.

I have been having more general problems with the nightlies from the
last week, all fairly consistent. Platform: W2K Pro. Running as a
service. SB2, wired. Last nightly used was 6/11

- Slimserver basically just dies. Under Services and from the Task
Manager it appears to be running - but the web interface can not reach
it and if I try starting it from application mode, it hangs. The SB2
shows the last played song, but it just stuck there and the remote can
not wake it. Have to pull the plug and then it hangs on looking for
SlimServer (it never finds it).

- This happens even -- or mostly -- when I am not even using
Slimserver, for instance when I come back from being out for some
hours

- In fact it never happens when using it.

- the computer is only running slimsever, and there is nothing wrong
with it, so I am confident it is not that.

- If I restart the service, it does come back. but this is a constant
chore, so from my perspective the last week's nightlies don't work.

I am not adept at the debugging, but would be happy to do so with some
guidance.

( on a positive not, the web interface, when working, is so much
quicker than 6.0.x).

Changing network.http.keep-alive to false "fixes" it. I'm not sure how
to tell/where to look to try and debug where the session is hanginging.
It does work fine in 6.0.x.

I was going to see if a different skin fixed it, but every time I
changed from default it crashed -- a 6.1 quirk?

Interesting.. haven't seen this one before.

In your Firefox, about:config, can you change network.http.keep-alive to false?

Thanks for the awesome turn around.

In IE, I get what appears to be the same output, but it doesn't hit
that stall spot like it does in FF.

Thanks again.

6.1, 6/11 nightly

I still have the problem: the web interface never stops loading, and
some images never get drawn in. It never stops working completely
though.

Edit: Should say this is with FF, and I'm running slimserver on linux.
The interface seems to work fine in IE.

Can you clear out your browser cache, and also run the server with --d_http ?

Thanks.

Did you try something different than MSIE?

I reported about this problem several times in different places, with
little reaction. See eg. the following:

I don't seem to be seeing this issue at all... What skin are you
using?

If you turn on d_http can you try reloading a few times and then look
at http://localhost:9000/log.txt (well, if that loads)?

Me too. I saw that behavior in 6.1 nightlies from 6/5 and 6/6.
