[DNG] Xfce4 task uninstalled on upgrade to ascii

2017-06-14 Thread Tom
I've been having issues upgrading a standard Devuan Jessie install to
Ascii. During upgrade, the task-xfce4-desktop package gets uninstalled and
can't be installed afterwards due to dependency problems.

Jessie has tasksel=3.33+devuan1.0 and Ascii has tasksel=3.33+devuan0.3
which is preventing task-xfce4-desktop from being installed in Ascii. This
is also causing a number of xfce4-* and other packages to be marked as not
required and removable with apt-get autoremove.

# apt-cache policy tasksel

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 task-xfce-desktop : Depends: tasksel (= 3.33+devuan0.3) but 3.33+devuan1.0
is to be installed
Depends: xfce4 but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: xfce4-mixer but it is not installable

Thanks everybody for your reports (I have received several more in
private). We are moving the new dbus packages to ascii now, and close
the relevant issues and bugs as soon as they are merged by
amprolla.

2017-06-14 Thread Ozi Traveller
Yes I agree it would be nice.

I don't go through all the outer pages though. Usually just google "debian
slim package" and go straight to the page

https://packages.debian.org/jessie/x11/slim

Hi Hendrik,

we are having a go at providing something similar to the neat web
interface you see on packages.debian.org. The main problem in using
Debian's stuff is that it is pretty much entangled with several
infrastructure pieces that we are currently missing (tracker, qa, ...)
and some other pieces that we have replaced (e.g., buildd where we are
using jenkins, alioth where we are using gitlab, and so on...).

We discussed it and it might be actually easier to have something
simple, built from scratch, which is tailored to our own needs. This
is the same strategy we have used so far for the BTS and for the
popularity contest: use what we can, simplify as much as we can, ditch
off bloats or redundant functionalities, and, overall, KISS.

Any help with that would be very much appreciated.

HND

Agreed. So I use it. But it doesn't tell me which packages belong to
the 1% that isn't the same or doesn't have the same dependencies in
Devuan.

And sometimes I do want to know what packages are in ascii or ceres
instead of the jessie that's specified in my sources.list file.

Is it difficult to convert the packages.debian.org software that Deban
uses? Or is it just a matter of too many things to do?

I booted today with the updated dbus (1.10.18-1+devuan2.2) and all is
working until now.

Desktop is MATE 1.16.2, no login manager as I still use startx.

I also made a (very quick) test on a VM with ASCII + Enlightenment
(e17), apparently no problem there, too.

All I said is referred to normal desktop usage (surfing the web, running
vlc, watching some video on raiplay.it and youtube, etc.). If there's
some more specific test to be done, please let me know :-)

Max.

Is there anything similar for devuan?

 https://www.devuan.org/distrib/packages [2] does not work.
 Nor does https://packages.devuan.org/ [3]

There's also https://files.devuan.org/devuan_jessie/
Each iso has a corresponding package list file.

The searchable web interface is nice. The one that Debian provides
conveniently also works for 99% of the packages in Devuan.

Upgrade works without problems here (ASCII, kde, lightdm) :)
