I was away last week so unable to come. The Broadway is fine for me,
location-wise.

I'd also be happy with the Moon. I already walk past it to catch the
bus to the Broadway.

2015-06-06 Thread Victor Churchill
Congratulations Natalie!

I'm kind of in the opposite situation - I suggested the Broadway back when
we were having trouble getting enough people toThe King's Arms or the Moon
In The Square, because it's good for buses and - just coincidentally - I
could walk back home up Broadway Lane ! :-)

Having been a home based telewoerker for many years I ended up having to
get a 'proper job' on the other side of Southampton last December , so I am
likely to be moving soon. Still should make the next meeting, and hopefully
some thereafter though.

Looking forward to seeing you next month!

In some ways, everyone's reason for a preferred location is selfish. I agree
with you on the parking and we can make it to The Broadway in around 20-30
minutes from the Corfe Mullen / Broadstone area, so I'm perfectly happy with
the venue.

The main reason for raising the point was to ensure that everyone else was!

Re: [Dorset] Meeting Tonight at the Broadway

2015-06-05 Thread Natalie Hooper
I have been scarce recently, due to having a job in London since September,
but I'm hoping to make it to the next meeting!

Indeed, I am currently on maternity leave so I am back living full time in
Bournemouth. I couldn't make it to this meeting as it was too close to the
birth (baby girl Zoe was born 25th May) and I'm recovering from a C
section, but I'm hoping to make it to the next meeting + all the ones until
early October included (going back to work mid October).

For me, in a pure selfish way, Broadway Tavern is a great location as I
live in Winton on the Charminster side, so I have direct buses and a taxi
back, if required, is only £5, but of course, this is an entirely
subjective reason to prefer this location. I do think, though, that the
location is also adequate for parking and allows non Bournemouth residents
to avoid town centre traffic?

Peter,

I misunderstood you when you mentioned these boards last night. What I've
ordered is a bit more expensive
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00P2E9W30?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=o
h_aui_detailpage_o00_s00[1]
but it would seem hasn't been flagged as being mis-labelled. Clearly this kit
is
pretty comprehensive, whereas the boards that you were referring to are just
that;
boards.

I can remember reading somewhere about mislabelling and I thought it was the
Sunfounder kit. I must have been confused.

2015-06-03 Thread Peter Merchant
These are the two Raspberry Pi breakout boards that I have. The first
one I have tried and not had any success with, perhaps due to (as Terry
says) the mislabelling of the pins.
http://proto-pic.co.uk/raspberry-pi-gpio-breakout-paddle-board/ [ Comes
with ribbon cable to I/O pins]

The other one I have not tried yet.
http://shop.ciseco.co.uk/k002-slice-of-pi-o/

Also it seems that some people have had HDMI - VGA converters working
on the R-Pi, but mine didn't the only time that I tried it. The R-pi is
sitting in a shoe box in my garage until I feel like playing with it again.

Conversation on our side of the table included Raspberry Pi peripheral kits,
Windows 10 for 'The Internet of Things' (eg the RPi), wireless hardware on
Linux and getting a domain name by the easiest/cheapest route.

Also the get-iplayer tool and the associated server that comes with it.

Is this just happenstance or do we need to consider a new venue again? The
last
venue change to The Broadway came about because there were one or two people
(Victor for example) who lived nearby and its location on a bus route meant
that
those without cars could make it.

Anyway; just a thought.

Conversation on our side of the table included Raspberry Pi peripheral kits,
Windows

We also discussed 'the good 'ole days' and I happened to pull up the 'Events'
pages
on the LUG Wiki:
http://dorset.lug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=events:install_day:2001[1]
http://dorset.lug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=events:install_day:2002[2]

I notice that the images on those pages only include the thumbnails. I'm sure
that
when these pictures first went up there was a proper 'gallery' and clicking on
a
thumbnail took you to the full-size picture. Anyone know what happened? I
appear
to have the 2002 originals (I took them), but I don't have anything from 2001.

The history shows no earlier versions.
