[Dx4win] Custom awards

2017-10-21 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hello, dear DX4WIN users!

Can you help me to simplify entering data for custom award.
I need to enter a similar custom award ref for multiple calls, say UA3AGW AGX
AGY AGZ etc etc with a ref MA-01 for RDA-award!

The standard procedure I would use for this is as follows

- open the logbook window ( say UA3AGW Report: sorted by date)
- double click the needed callsign
- in a QSO main entry window ( say UA3AGW sorted by date) click
CUSTOM AWARD BOX and select the award name (say Russian District Award)
- then click CUSTOM AWARD VALUE BOX and select RDA ref name
- then eather select a value in the Custm box below ( S C I ) and press Enter -
or just press Enter to save the entered data if the latter is not needed.

Then repeat the procedure for the next callsign in the log.

So I am wondering how to automate this process for multiple entries with the
same Custom award value and avoid this time-consuming procedure.

Sorry I am not a programming type and I am not aware which are the DB files in
DX4WIN where the info with individual data ( awards, achievements, scores) is
being accumulated and stored !

Waiting for your replies guys, thanks so much in advanse !

Dima, UA3AGW

Re: [Dx4win] FO/JI1JKW is French Polynesia, not Austral Is. (December 2018)

2018-12-23 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN
Hi Guys !

Does anyone know if there is any way to change a view, columns order and
sorting method for DX4WIN generated award submission form similar to the one we
have for "Report editor". Tried to make a submission for custom award and
failed to change sorting in the second column by AwdCode. It provides sorting
by AwdValue which is of no-use

To overcome this problem I tried to use group filter for needed QSOs and then a
Report Generator with Report Ediitor which allowed me to place columns the way
I like, Ie combine Report Fields out of Available fields in the needed order.

However in this kind of report  Sort Index does not allow sorting by award code
or value - the options are Callsign, date, time, band etc etc !

I do understand I can Right Click on eather Submission or Report an save it as
CSV with further conversion to XLS and performing  a kind of sorting I need.

However I really don't want to prepare the application in XLS -  we're already
paying for DX4WIN to help us doing it.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated !

I am still using ver 8 !

73's and Merry Xmas and HNY 2019 to everyone here !

Hi Bert!

I agree with you as a very old user, at least since v4.

However I could never find there a very needed feature as calculating of unique
callsignes integrated in the count feature, same refers to separate band/mode
issues. Importing adif to another logging or contest sw is not interesting,
same refers to excel calculations.

I’ve been also looking for a possibility to automatically fill in US counties (
fixed) and states from QRZcom or any other ctydat kind of list or DB and failed
to do that. Can you imagine hw many Qs you have to analyse manualy to fill in
this data in the blanks/boxes of DX4WIN to prepare an application for awards
etc etc.

Maybe I had to dig deeper and all this stuff is available, however I’ve never
read abt it b4.

Please don’t hesitate to share your experiences guys !  If you consider this as
an of-topic issue for DX4WIN reflector, please write to me in-person to

yes it happens with U.S. domestic domains sometimes).

Re: [Dx4win] where is the window

2020-03-11 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Paul !

I have always had the same issue !
When you have a Packet Cluster running — clicking on «Х» will not close any of
those 2 ( DX Cluster and Spots) windows and it’s good! However when I click on
«—» in order to minimize any of them  if it’s not needed now  etc — I will
never see them again unless I exit and restart DX4WIN. Save /Close/Open log
would not help ! Can you please send a screenshot of that secret «Restore»
button above the task bar which I’ve never seen neither in Window7 8 or 10!

Tnx in advance!

Re: [Dx4win] How to extract my log for 2021 without risking the entire log

2021-12-23 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Andy!

Probably there is a shorter or easier way to do it — but this is the way I do.

1. Click FILTER --→ SELECTION in the main QSO entry window
2.Create Date Filter
3.Export ADIF-file of your filtered log
4.Open a new File in the main nenu.
5.Import your ADIF-file

If you have any problems — I have prepared a step-by-step instruction for you
in a personal message.

Re: [Dx4win] Help in searching

2022-01-09 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

I think — what no one knows here — is how to calculate a number of unique QSOs
( different calls)  rather than different QSOs.

You may be recommended a contest program, justifying the fact that this is a
completely unnecessary option for DX-ing. However, everyone understands that
this is completely wrong, but just an excuse.

This is a very needed feature. And using export to Contest SW or EXcell tables
is an extra headache for the user of a linenses and not free logging SW.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but so far I don’t know how many different
Russian or US stations sit in my log hihi !

Re: [Dx4win] County Submission Of All Confirmed

2022-03-17 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Bill!

In the QSO entry window click Filter — Search and check County box at the
bottom depending on your preferences ( say Mixed) and select С (not S). Then
click Window-Logbook and when you’ll have a log opened rightclick on it and
select «Write to File» in the pop-up menu to save it with the assigned name in
scv format.

By the way — if you check S ( see above) —  you will have a list of Submitted
QSOs you had chosen before for manual submission when entering your newly
received CTYs and marking them as CFM. This is the way I use to do. Don’t mix
it with Automatic Submission you mentioned b4. In this mode the program will
find the very first confirmed Qso with each of the new CTYs from your log and
prepare an Application automatically.

Please respond if this helps, Bill !

Re: [Dx4win] County Submission Of All Confirmed

2022-03-17 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Luc !

Though I don’t have AL/Monroe cty in my log — I’ve just made a fake QSO entry
and it is shown in the report.
So I can only suggest that you delete and re-enter an existing QSO or try to
play with a fake one like me. The string containing this cty name is probably
corrupted in the source file  by some reason. If it doesn’t help — I would
reinstall the program or try another version and I’m sure that would solve the
problem, otherwise I would have noticed a similar «program behavior» since
we’re using the same Ver.

In case of custom awards — if there are any errors in the custawd.txt file for
certain award description —  it can be corrected or edited manually. However
basic awards ( WAS DXCC WAZ USACA) description is not acessable for user (
unless he’s a programming specialist or at least  a smart programming amateur)
and I assume —  it’s a DAT or another DB or dll file he would check to analyse
and identify the problem.

Unfortunately I am a wrong person and don’t even know the DX4WIN SW structure,
Luc ! But sure Jim, AD1C knows.

And probably a SW Developer Paul, KK4HD is reading this reflector and would
reccommend the best ever way to fix the problem.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your procedure.

When I follow the procedure the produced csv file includes all years from
1962 to 2016.
It covers the range of years from the beginning until the submission made
in 2016.

I need it to provide all from the beginning including all thru 2022.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: [Dx4win] County Submission Of All Confirmed

2022-03-17 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Luc!

It’s rather strange that this QSO does not show up in the generated report. I
do have a lot of problems with reports for custom awards — if you have more
than one, a report gives an unpredicted mix of them. Jim AD1C is aware of this
phenomena and being a real expert he would probably help to fix the issue when
he has some spare time.

However in case of basic awards I have never faced any problems my friend !

Maybe Jim could add something — I just gave you a standard procedure and
nothing else, Luc!

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-21 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi friends !

My LIfelong Dream for DX4WIN is — that SW automatically populates empty blanks
with counties ( or at least — new counties) that I didn't manually enter based
on the QSLs or QSOs made in State QSO Parties received which were not entered
by myself manually based on QSLs reveived or QSOs in the County Parties.
Because I woud never find the time to do it using QRZ.com and the Program will
lose a potential and very rare applicant from Russia probably having over 2000
wkd CTYs in the log. Was trying to analyze some of logging CH-tracking SW but
couldn't figure out if they were not only doing the current online work for me,
but also filling in an existing log with CTY values from any database.
For example, a Call History file for a certain contest would do a similar job
only after you enter a callsign manually or clicking on a band-map. But what’s
about already existing log? Is there any Import Feature capable of doing it
exist ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback.

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-25 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Dear Alan and Jim !

Thanks for your valuable feedback! Sure — it’s time for me to start entering
CTY info during every QSO — then these problems will disappear by themselves
hihi ! In any case — I will start using the way you’ve offered, Luc !

As it was mentioned here — Jim has also written a useful utility that would
convert the ADIF county abbreviations to counties in DX4WIN log. I have not
tried it yet, but I suspect that ADIFs from Contesting SW may differ one from
another, causing a conversion problem.

For ex., in the case of QSO with KB9LLD from St.Luis in MOQP — an  ADIF
generated by N1MM SW will contain the following info for a State and CTY

MO
 STC

And every other Contest SW will have its own way of building an ADIF and the
common will be a Standard National 2-letter State and «MOQP Standard» 3- letter
CTY abbreviations.

So it seems to me that the Cabrillo format, being unique, would allow it to be
correctly converted to ADIF, and then to do the rest of the work to decode
abbreviations is the task of Jim’s utility.

I am not familiar with EQSLcc ways of obtaining CTY CFM for CH and submitting
them — maybe it also has an output file that could be used as a source to
automatically populate State/CTY fields in DX4WIN’s Log for Matching Callsigns
after import.

However, this partially works for LOTW. If a user has entered his State/CTY
info in TCert SW it will sit in his TQ8 file and you’ll easily get it from the
LOTW Report after download. But unfortunately, it will populate QSO Notes field
instead of the needed ones and the task will be to pull it out from there and
re-populate State/CTY fields instead. And of course, automatically, not
manually, and I think that for this, again, you will need to first convert the
ADIF file from LOTW Report to ADIF, understandable by DX4WIN for further
import.

But this does not mean the end of the game, hihi !
Since I have 5-10 K QSOs with missing CTY information and one in the USA would
definitely have much more - the only way to collect it automatically is to
import it from some active СH guy’s "history file" who would like to share it,
otherwise - extract it in some way from any existing open-source database
(QRZ,FCC etc.) in the appropriate format, and then somehow convert it to import
into the Logging Program SW log so that it automatically fills in the blanks
for State and CTY for any callsign in your log that matches DB, with missing
State/CTY detail. I guess it could be an XLS or ADIF comparison of 2 logs with
further filling in the missing values in case of a match and the necessary
conversion with import. In all cases, as a Result — you should get your log
with all the State/CITY fields populated as if you were doing it manually
during the QSO or retroactively.

Jim has already offered me his help and I am working on the issue.

Sorry to subscribers for taking your time reading this — but technically it’s
not an off-topic (as a CH-issue) because this could be a useful but missing
feature for DX4WIN even more important that unique callsigns calculator option
which is also much needed for our users/

2022-02-25 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Sure, Jim!

DX4WIN is not able to do it in the case of N1MM generated ADIF as I mentioned
before.

For my short "made in Russia" Contest logs, I entered CTYs manually in DX4WIN
after import. But for locals with a lot of Qs, your utility should definitely
be of great help. With all this, I myself have repeatedly thought about
replacing the CTY abbreviations with their decoded values and placing the new
CTY field in the correct ADIF position to make its modified file version
understandable to DX4WIN when importing!

I have tried to support either the software I use, or other common programs
like N1MM.  WriteLog is actually a real problem.  N1MM is easy.  If someone
can't convert their log and sends me the ADIF file, it's usually easy to fix.

The software only looks at the abbreviation.  It is up to the user to choose
the correct state from the drop-down menu.  I don't think the program looks at
the State field at all.

A great utility JIm!

I’ll definitely try it after the next State CTY QSO Party I participate in — no
matter if I have only 20 or 30 Qs in my log as it often happens from here!

I will send you a personal email about the missing CTY fields populating issue

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-25 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Luc!

Probably it will be a special but not a standard case! Since I have all of the
mobiles entered — the repetition of the call will add nothing for me and hence
will not cause any changes to the log. But if the one from your log containing
State/CTY info will match with mine (a unique one and with empty fields as I
mentioned earlier) — it would probably «paint it» with the wrong info in 50% of
cases. The same refers to newly re-issued or re-used callsigns. Or just in case
of the call owner’s move. But I’m sure a percentage of these calls would be
much less than a benefit from the populating of thousands of unknowns sitting
in your log with no time to populate them manually. So my guess — is both of us
should think of a special present to Jim if he helps us to solve the problem

No, I was not trying it, because I really thought DX4WIN should generate an

there any method within DX4WIN to make it instead of using 3rd party software,
guys?

[Dx4win] ADIF File problem

2023-10-16 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hello, group!

Can someone explain how to generate ADIF from the DX4WIN log sorted
alphabetically by a callsign ( using a report editor) so, that resulting ADIF
has the same order rather than sorted by date. This is needed for import to
several award programs requiring such kind of sorting. Unfortunately I could
not solve this problem  — while resulting csv file appears perfectly sorted in
the alphabetical order, but it’s a big headache to convert it back to ADIF
using a spreadsheet !

Re: [Dx4win] need help generating POTA listing worked report

2023-06-04 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Scott and the group!

I’ve never tried to generate a report for POTA, however  for any other Custom
Award except for those listed individually — a generated report contains a
mixture of all  previously entered contacts for awards marked when a QSO — RRA
CISA USIA etc etc ! In another words — when I want to see my results for
certain award by selecting it in the box — I will see all QSOs for all kinds of
custom awards instead ! At least — in my case it only works correct when you
have a single custom award selected and marked. I wrote about it several times
in the past but got no feedback at all !

I‘ve never tried to generate a report, in particular for POTA, however, for any
other "custom" awards selected from the pop-up menu, except for those listed
separately - the generated report contains a mixture of all previously entered
and selected contacts for awards entered logged during the QSO with the
corresponding mark — RRA CISA USIA, etc., etc. ! In other words — when I want
to see my results for a certain award by selecting it in the pop-up menu box -
instead I will see all valid QSOs for all kinds of Custom awards in one stack!
At least in my case, it only works correctly if you have selected and marked
one and only one Custom award. I've reported about this problem here several
times in the past, but haven't received any feedback at all!

Looks like nobody is using this S/W for this kind of submissions unlike
standard ones or just regular logging stuff !

And this is very bad, because 80% do not use the «artificial» E-qsl service.
Hopefully in the end we will see some progress, as in the case of WPX

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and QRZ.com

2023-06-28 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hello Guy and the group !

In the past I was asking several questions about DX4WIN but never received a
reply. It seems incredible that no one has the answer! Maybe there are just
almost no readers here?

Anyhow I will try to repeat it again and maybe I am lucky this time :-) !
* How to select and count unique callsigns based on selection criteria —
DXCC, State, WAZ etc., or just a total of uniques in the log?
* There is no field ( box) for the continent in any of menu’s. Does it mean
that we can’t see our stats by continent at all? For example, in the case of
the USA — we can use a filter to sort by States in the Report editor. But how
to get info for the whole NA/SA/EU etc. in one step? Sure a set of selections
by zones is not what I’m looking for!
Thank you for your feedback ! Please don’t keep silence !

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and QRZ.com

2023-06-28 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Thank you so much for your response, guys!

This is probably the first time I've received an answer in a group so quickly!

Maybe because non of this very useful and sometimes very much needed
options/features were ever implemented —  the DX4WIN team never ever made a
comment on the issue so far :-( !

And at the same time less significant issues like QRZ.com online lookup is
widely discussed hihi. Though XML subscription for another 35 USD/year is not
necessary at all for a serious DX’er using this proprietary DX4WIN Software

By the way — if anyone of you would like to use this logger for preparing an
application for any custom award except for those 8 listed in Report Generator
( ie DXCC WAZ WPX WAS Cty IOTA etc) — don’t be surprised to have a biggest
headache ! Unless you are chasing for a single award only from the long
«Custom» pop-up menu list — when opening a certain award and clicking
«Submission» — it will rather generate for you a weird Application form with a
mix of all your data for all of your custom awards ever checked. Try it your
self (ifyou don’t beleive me ) and have fun:-) !

Of course I have a workaround, but isn’t it very pity and even strange that the
best logging software in history, which most of us have been using since the
90s or even earlier, can't provide us with the aforementioned features that
would be available in almost every free contesting program!

Thanks again for your feedback !

73’s!

Re: [Dx4win] How to search

2023-05-12 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi Dave and group!

I have another question re. search and count.

To prepare an application for some awards I need to submit QSOs with a certain
number or original ( unique) calls from some prefix or country. A search filter
will provide all calls based on the search critera ( say UA3*) will show all
UA3s in my log which I can count later using a built-in count feature. But
what’s about uniques like some contest programs can count?
An import to Excell with further using it’s functions is not a good solution I
think :-) !

Thanks and 73’s !

Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

2023-11-21 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Dear DX4WIN users and reflector subscribers!

I sincerely apologize to you for the repeated duplication of my post.
Unfortunately, each of my attempts was unsuccessful, and in response I received
only the message as follows .

Your mail to 'DX4WIN' with the subject

Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

Message body is too big: 59923 bytes with a limit of 40 KB
In fact, the size of my message was much smaller. Apparently there was a
software error, after correcting which the administrator did not delete my
subsequent unsuccessful attempts to send the post - and as a result you
received all the messages at once :-( !

Anyhow, m any thanks to the administrators for helping to fix this problem

Once again, my excuses to the group for this incovenience . But my main goal
was to convey to you my opinion about our favorite DX4WIN logging Software , to
the further fate of which we all cannot remain indifferent

Best 73's !

Dima, UA3AGW
28 year young DX4WIN-program user :-)

> Hi group !

I was a big fan of DX4WIN for many, many years until I tried using it to
prepare a custom award submission.
Unfortunately, I found so many problems there that it would take several pages
to describe them. Unfortunately, none of my questions to the support desk or to
the group were answered, with the exception of Jim, AD1C, but we have not
completed solving only one of these issues
. The absence of a continent in the main menu is very inconvenient for
calculating statistics.
Among other problems, it is very annoying not to be able to count the number of
unique call signs, both in general and by using a sorting criteria
. It is also impossible to get an ADIF export from an alphabetically sorted log
in the same sequence - this only works for CSV. To implement the above
functions, I have to import the ADIF log into other programs, even a freeware
ones, but which successfully cope with the tasks set. I’ll be ready to continue
using this nice product and pay for upgrades if I see a real support instead of
just adding of FT8 etc QSO modes and some minor changes in V.9 for $30 !

Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

2023-11-21 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi group !

I was a big fan of DX4WIN for many, many years until I tried using it to
prepare a custom award submission.
Unfortunately, I found so many problems there that it would take several pages
to describe them. Unfortunately, none of my questions to the support desk or to
the group were answered, with the exception of Jim, AD1C, but we have not
completed solving only one of these issues. The absence of a continent in the
main menu is very inconvenient for calculating statistics.

Re: [Dx4win] FT8 Integration

2024-06-18 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

C‘mon ! It must be a very «complicated and expensive» feature to implement — a
kind of WSJT or JTDX or MFSK engine like
we have MMTTY here for years!
Didn’t we have to pay 30USD just for FT-mode integration as a main logging
function? And there is no FT4 in the normal Mode box, so you have to put MFSK
from the pull-down menu and then add FT4 in the Submode box to enter the QSO.
However when you make and ADIF export in order to upload it to LOTW — you won’t
get a credit for your match ‘cause LOTW has no idea what it is. Thus you have
to edit your ADIF first and replace MFSK with FT4  — very nice, isn’t it ?

Unfortunately I’ve been facing problems with Custom Awards Submission feature
for many years and no-one was able to help. Looks like this SW is able to
process only one Custom award from the list. And if you add a 2nd or 3rd etc.—
you’ll have a real mess — a mixture of your submitted QSOs for all of the
Custom award programs you participate in. Fortunately there are no problems
with standard awards like DXCC, WAZ, IOTA etc. And also there is no way to
calculate a number of unique calls based on your sorting criteria. There is not
even a box for the Continent, so if you want to find out how many Qs you’ve got
in your log from EU — the best way is to put a filter for each of EU zones
followed by clicking «count» and then summarize them manually. Please forgive
me if I’m wrong — but I couldn’t find any solution even by using a «Multiple
QSO Operations» menu.

If there are any experts in the group reading this — please share your ideas,
maybe the problem is not that big that I’ve described and I’m sorry for that.

Best 73’s !
