Re: [Elecraft] K2 plus N1MM logger in CW
Hi all, Many thanks to all who replied. I updated N1MM logger to the most recent version, re-edited the macros in the manner described by K4MTX in his blog (who did it for the KX3) and it seems to work with the K2 as well. There seems to be enough space in the connectors of the "pseudo-serial" cable for the one-transistor keying circuit, so I will add it to the cable later and see how well this works - with the system sounds off. I hope, I have the date right - happy Thanksgving! [Elecraft] K2 plus N1MM logger in CW
Hi all, I was thinking about using my K2 with KIO2 interface together with an existing N1MM logger installation in the CQWW contest this weekend. My understanding is that N1MM does not directly support sending the KY command to the rig's control interface. However, I found some hints about directly keying a KX3 without any additional interface by wrapping the "KY" command in N1MM's CATA1ASC command inside a function key macro. I have not checked in detail but my feeling is that KX3 and K2 use the same command structure for CW keying with the KY command. Will this approach work with a K2 as well? Will the "special serial cable" work with a serial to USB adapter? Has anyone tried this already? [Elecraft] KX3 - dBV question
Hi, I have been playing around with the "dBV-Feature" of my KX3 for some time. I understood how to use it and that it measures a relative input level into the AF stage of the KX3, but my question is if there is any kind of "data processing" involved, in other words: the display is updated roughly once in a second, and my question is if is the input level to the AF stage just being sampled once a second, is the value being displayed something like the peak level that occured during this one second interval between two updates of the value or is something like the average of the signal level during this second being displayed? We have been discussing the "system advantage" of CW compared to SSB in the german QRP facebook group, I tried to measure my personal ability to copy weak SSB and CW signals by using this dBV display, but am not sure, if I can compare the values directly, since I do not know how the data is being generated and processed. Maybe someone on the list or at Elecraft can help me out. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 antenna tuner intermittent operation
Wayne, Thanks for the fast reply. I think I had this issue only two times (am not sure if both were the same band) perhaps during 3 hours or so, but what you are saying would explain why I couldn't reproduce it. If it were RFI, I would expect it to happen all the time which doesn't seem to be the case. Just one more question: are you saying the LC data is not loaded before I transmit in a "new" segment, just like e. g. the Smartuner? The ATU doesn't follow the VFO when I am only in rx mode? [Elecraft] KX3 antenna tuner intermittend operation
Hi, I received my KX3 one week ago and had some fun yesterday with it and an end-fed wire antenna roughly 20 mtrs long. The ATU worked great on getting the SWR down to 1:1 (not on 160) but there was an issue that concerns me: while transmitting, the ATU icon in the display went flashing and the SWR changed. I'm not sure if the relays clicked or not (have been using earphones) but I think so. At another instance, I saw the "HI CURR" warning in the display and heard a relay clicking (I was only running 4W and the power supply was a 25 A, 13.7 V linear). I think the tuner suddenly went into a kind of bypass mode at both instances. There is a video on youtube showing exactly what happened to me. Is anyone else here experiencing this? Is it related to antenna impedance or poor ground? Have been using the same wire with a K2 and its tuner and never noticed something like this.
