Re: [Elecraft] K3: CW characters sound very hard / short
Hi, thank you very much for the feedback. I will pass on the information to my friend. He will then have to see how he proceeds. 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] K3: CW characters sound very hard / short
Hi Andrew, Pete and Dave, thank you very much for your feedback. Yes, when searching the mailing list, it depends a lot on the search terms. So sometimes the search is a bit difficult. I will therefore continue to search with other terms. The issue occurs with the K3 internal keyer and is already audible even at speeds below 50 WPM. The use of an external keyer would be a solution, but since the effect does not occur with my K3, for example, the sound of the CW characters should actually be equally good with all K3's. Already experimented with different menu parameters. "TX DLY" is set to "008". But on the basic problem this had so far no influence. I have therefore rather the assumption that here somewhere a hardware problem is present with this special K3. 73, Wolfgang Dl2KI -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3: CW characters sound very hard / short
Hi, a friend tells me that the CW characters sound very hard / short on his K3 in the standard mode "CW QRQ = OFF". This makes the characters at higher speed ~50WPM vy hardly readable by the QSO partner. Experiments with "CW WGHT" do not lead to success. At higher speeds, my friend therefore switches to the mode "CW QRQ = On", where the effect does not occur. However, some functions (RIT, SPLIT) are unfortunately not available there. Therefore, this is not an ideal solution. So far I have not found any clues to help him solve the problem. Are there other setting possibilities to solve this issue, or can there also be a hardware problem here? 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Wetting current and CW paddles
Hi, i posted the article here for discussion, because I can't judge it myself. I think that Elecraft had a little idea to design the keyer electronics of the K3 as it is. Interesting is the difference to the K2, where the resistors R1 and R2 were changed in revision "B". Again I can't judge if this had anything to do with this topic. OK, I'll just leave it like this. Maybe somebody will have some experience with it after all. Hi, actually I expected a little discussion on a qualified professional level in this mailing list. Otherwise I would not ask here. [Elecraft] [K3] Wetting current and CW paddles
Hi, i found this very interesting article by Hjalmar, OZ1JHM With my Elecraft transceivers I have measured the following values: K3: 4.97 V, 0.105 mA -> 0.52 mW, 47.3 Ohm K2: 5.62 V, 0.670 mA -> 3.70 mW, 8.5 Ohm It seems that the effect described by Hjalmar would also apply to my K3. Does anyone have any insights into this? Is there already a modification for the K3 to increase the keyer current? Especially with fast CW speeds and the associated short contact times, the problem may already be known with some OM's. In any case, Hjalmar's article is very interesting and invites to observe the described effect. 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft K2 CW key shaping
Hi, thanks for the hints and information. I will listen to the signal once with my K3. That seems to be the best way to check the hint. But I will also have a look at the connector plugs and power supply cables in my portable configuration. 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Elecraft K2 CW key shaping
Hi, since someone told me that there is a small "chirp" in my K2-CW signal, I would like to check the signal visually. How can I display the CW Key envelope as shown in the document "Elecraft K2 Keying Modification Instructions", page 1. An oscilloscope "Tektronix 2465A" is at my disposal, but I have little experience with measuring instruments, since I only use them occasionally. Re: [Elecraft] K-1 4-band Availability/Status?
/There is no need for the KFL1 firmware to be open source, it is available from Elecraft as a spare part. Elecraft will continue to support existing KFL1-4 boards with parts (except for replacement trimmer capacitors) for a good long time into the future. / Hi Don, when you allow an existing project as "open source", the meaning lies in the fact, to promote the creation of something *new*. The retained the original firmware restricts this. The support of the "old" 4Band boards is independent of such a decision. Re: [Elecraft] Err AT3
Hi Gary, i had the same problem a few weeks ago. Peter (DL2KI) by the German Elecraft service said that it might be a contact problem. I then removed the KAT3 and cleaned the contacts with a glass fibre brush. Then everything was OK. It could also be a contact problem on the connectors between front panel module and main unit. The signals of the ATU are processed by the main processor on the FP module. 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Err-AT3-tp7594368p7594398.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 Eqalizer settings - another way
Hi, when working with the "DS response string", i found an easier and faster method to read the values from the equalizer. If you select an AF-band in the RX/TX EQ menu, the set value appears briefly in the VFO-B display area. This value can be read out with the "DB command" then. The "SWTxx;" command and the "DB;" command must be carried out in quick succession. In the 'Elecraft K3 utility", you can for example run a macro"SWT34; DB;" and then receive the related response string. This note for general information. 73, Wolfgang DL2KI -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-Eqalizer-settings-tp7593506p7593551.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
