Re: [EVDL] video:Tesla motor hacked!
"Eldis" (diyelectriccar user name) did not reverse engineer the Tesla controller. He designed and built his own controller to replace the motor controller in any electric car inverter, hence the name UMC, universal motor controller. He is using it to run a Tesla motor, others working with him are using it to run Volt motors. He plans to make it available to others. It circumvents the need to work with the manufacturer's proprietary firmware. He is making it so it fits inside the existing inverter box. Just pull out the manufacturer's board, and install his. He is just using the Tesla hardware as a test mule for his UMC currently, so he doesn't require larger wires. To me this is the most exciting development in diy ev for a long time. In the true tradition of people modifying stock cars to use for their desired purpose. Collin (working under contract for Jack R.) took a different, much more narrow, approach and hacked the software of the Tesla controller. -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/video-Tesla-motor-hacked-tp4676720p4676740.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
[EVDL] 1.2k EVs for Portuguese-state-fleet sez Env.Minister Moreira da Silva
http://www.theportugalnews.com/news/electric-cars-hop-onto-government-agenda/35224 Electric cars hop onto government agenda by TPN/ Lusa · 02-07-2015 [image http://www.theportugalnews.com/uploads/news/page12_Elec_Cars.JPG (Moreira da Silva steping out of an EV) ] The Portuguese state vehicle fleet is to contain 1,200 electric powered vehicles by the end of the decade, returning substantial savings, following the approval of a sustainable mobility programme by the Portuguese cabinet. The Minister of the Environment Jorge Moreira da Silva told journalists afterwards that this was all about the state setting the example in terms of transportation, within the framework of cutting edge vehicle usage, CO2 emissions and energy consumption levels with the knock on effect of a boost to renewables production and lower bills. Moreira da Silva said that the programme aimed at ending the logic of one vehicle to one particular position or service and trying to bring about the sharing of transport within geographic areas. The electric vehicle acquisition programme would take place in accordance with “the replacement of fleets and returning guaranteed savings” with the minister putting forward the figure of €50 million in terms of savings through to the end of the decade. The same cabinet meeting also saw the approval of a ‘Strategic Framework for Climate Policy’ that is to see an inter-ministerial body set up to study issues ranging from coastal erosion to worsening hydric resources. Portugal has a set objective of reducing emissions by 30 to 40 percent by 2030 in relation to 2005 levels, with a 40 percent input from renewables into the final energy consumption mix, meaning that 80 percent of all electricity generated will have to come from such sources. [EVDL] EVLN: wickedjoe.com PV-charged Electric coffee-delivery vans
http://www.pressherald.com/2015/07/05/meet-bob-garver-owner-of-wicked-joe-coffee/ Meet Bob Garver, owner of Wicked Joe Coffee By Mary Pols [2015/07/05] From the company's solar-powered Topsham roastery to its electric vans, the Maine coffee business strives to be as sustainable as possible ... As we learned when we called him to ask questions such as, "What is bird-friendly coffee?" the roastery he and his wife, Carmen, run is jammed with features designed to make a greener cup of joe ... MACHINE MATTERS: Garver made the switch to a seriously expensive coffee roasting machine recently, the Loring Smart Roaster. The marketing for these machines included some sustainability-related promises that they'd use about 80 percent less fossil fuel and put out 80 percent fewer emissions, Garver said. "We believe it is a best practice to be as sustainable as we can be," he said. So far, the machine has been delivering on the sales job, he said ... BACK HOME: Wicked Joe moved from Brunswick to the old Navy base commissary in Topsham in 2013, which gave Garver a chance to bring energy efficiency to the business in a big way. They insulated the building with foam, added skylights to supply natural light, put a photovoltaic solar array on the roof to power the electricity and a solar wall to offset heating costs (their system runs on natural gas). Their vans, used for coffee delivery, including to Bard in Portland (which the couple also owns), are all electric. Even their forklift is electric. PLUGGED IN: They have a charging station for those electric vehicles, which they make available to any member of the public with a need to plug in their car. It's powered by the solar installation. "So my electric cars run on solar, at least some of the time." Because the sun doesn't always shine ... Steve Harper, of the Shado Design Consultancy of Paignton designed the Revolutionary Electric Car, and has now completed the first prototype of the new four-seat electric vehicle which will become part of a new range of electric vehicles which can be manufactured anywhere in the world. The cars feature inter-changable batteries and the first has been built for a business consortium based in Singapore. Shado, based at Trojan Industrial Estate, designs a range of products from cars, trucks, and hovercrafts to showrooms and offices. The company has had eight young students and graduates actively involved in the project. He said last year there were also a number of possible follow-on projects which include a replica Le Mans race car. Steve said: "The complete design and development has been carried out in the 'Design Resort' or Torbay where my SHADO Studio is based. In keeping with my own design heritage, the car plays homage to the simplistic design of the original Mini, the Smart, the 2CV and the original Fiat Panda. However it has a keen eye on safety as from my years at Volvo, low volume / Concept Car build experience from the Grinnall Scorpion & MG Icon and aerodynamic touches from my work on the Escort RS Cosworth. "From inception to the production of a running prototype has taken the team here around 18 months, and other than some machining carried out at in Coventry, the assistance of a senior clay modeller and a well respected Alias CAD designer, the full work has been created in the local area, by myself, some local suppliers, a team of ex-Coventry university graduates and an Aston University intern." SHADO International Group Pte Ltd, a Singapore company founded by Mr. Stephen Harper with Singaporean and international partners, announced their newly designed vehicle, SHADO INSPIRATION, at the International “Destination Zero Carbon” Competition (“DZC”) in NUS UTown in Singapore Mr. Harper stated “SHADO has chosen to announce our electric vehicle at this year’s DZC competition because we believe education is one of the primary foundations of our future. DZC is creating a new way to teach science to students and SHADO is proud to be a sponsor of this event.” The SHADO INSPIRATION has been designed with simplistic and modern lines and specifically for use both in dense city living environments and where general road conditions are poor and extremely wet, as in many parts of Asia. This light weight and robust vehicle is also designed to be shipped in a box for local assembly anywhere in the world. Mr. Harper emphasized that “Our SHADO INSPIRATION has been designed to meet European Standards of comfort, safety & reliability. But, to accommodate these extreme conditions, we have designed our car to have a higher ground clearance to easily handle such surfaces and torrential rain falls“. As most prospective electric car buyers and fleet operators have expressed concerns about finding suitable charging bays, SHADO INSPIRATION is designed with “swappable Battery Packs”. These batteries can be charged in our centralized “Vertical Charging Stations” to reduce space and keep fleets operating 24 hours per day. “In addition, we have incorporated “Wireless Charging” capabilities, from Elix Wireless Canada (www.elixwireless.com), to avoid the need to plug the vehicle into a socket, this will make the charging process much simpler, thus addressing a constant complaint of many eV owners.” added Mr. Harper. Mr. Harper concluded “With many other unique features, such as separate power for air-conditioning, the driver has little worry about getting home when stuck in heavy traffic, We strongly believe that SHADO INSPIRATION is the best designed, multipurpose and cost-effective vehicle today for fleet operators, enthusiasts and general individual owners.” SHADO has partnered with se

The solar-powered aircraft sustained major damage to its batteries during the latest leg of its round-the-world voyage, according to a press release, and it will be two to three weeks before the aircraft flies again. Crews monitoring the aircraft during its flight from Nagoya to Hawaii noticed the overheating batteries during the plane's first ascent of the five-day journey. Unfortunately, the team was unable to reduce temperatures due to the cyclic nature of Solar Impulse's flights. Every day, the aircraft ascends to 28,000 feet and gathers energy before gliding back down towards Earth at night. The team believes that the overheating was due to excess insulation in the battery compartment. ""Damage to certain parts of the batteries is irreversible."" In a press release, the team says that "the damage to certain parts of the batteries is irreversible," adding that they'll need to obtain new parts and perform repairs that "will take several weeks to work through." Thankfully, alongside the repairs, engineers will be looking at how to better design the battery compartment to prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future during long flights. Solar Impulse co-founder and CEO André Borschberg piloted the plane on the record-breaking leg, but he won't be flying once the aircraft is back in action. His partner in this journey, Bertrand Piccard, will take the reins for the next flight, which is set to land in Phoenix, Arizona. After that, Solar Impulse will take a couple more stops in the US before hopping across the Atlantic and finally returning to Abu Dhabi, where this round-the-world trip first started in March. The Swiss adventurer is due to land at Kalaeloa, Hawaii, around 06:00 local time (1600 GMT; 17:00 BST) after an epic five-day trip from Japan. His Solar Impulse aeroplane has covered 8,000km this week, in what was always going to be the toughest leg in the quest to fly around the world. Wind conditions will determine the precise moment Borschberg puts down. His very lightweight vehicle, with its huge, 72m wingspan, needs calm air. And the pilot will be instructed to circle in front of Kalaeloa airport until meteorologists give him the all clear. There to meet Borschberg on the ground will be his partner on the Solar Impulse project, Bertrand Piccard. The pair have shared the flying duties in the single-seater plane's global effort, which began in Abu Dhabi, UAE, back in March. It is Piccard who will fly the next leg from Kalaeloa to Phoenix, Arizona. That is not quite as far as the current stint, but it still likely to take four days and nights. From Phoenix, Solar Impulse will head for New York and an Atlantic crossing that would eventually see the plane return to Abu Dhabi. But the Solar Impulse ground crew will need a few days first in Kalaeloa to check over the aircraft, before meteorologists once again take on the tricky task of finding a flight window. Getting from China to Hawaii proved more problematic than anyone could have imagined. The project was stuck in Nanjing for five weeks before the first attempt to cross the ocean was made. This had to be aborted because of a sudden deterioration in the weather, and the plane was diverted to Nagoya. One further attempt was then abandoned moments from take-off, before Solar Impulse finally got a clear run out of Jap
