Re: [EVDL] EV Brakes
Then again, the driver could be still hard braking. I have heard some people say that they frequently use the brakes to regen energy to extend range. Makes no sense whatsoever. Heavy regen is not free energy, it is exactly the opposite. Yes, it recovers maybe 55% of keinetic energy compared to an ICE car that throws away 100% of kinetic energy. But still you are wasting fully HALF of the battery energy used to get to speed. But if the car is not coming to a stop and the driver is only applying the brakes to slow down because she was otherwise going too fast for traffic and conditions, then that is no free energy, it is wasted energy. Sure it is less waste than an ICE, but it is still *very wasteful* compared to coasting to preserve ones kinetic energy instead. Just a possibility. This report claims 55% recovery during regen: http://proev.com/LLPgs/LLei0005.htm Again, any use of regen that is not for the purpose of coming to a required stop, is throwing away 50% of the car's kinetic energy, and is an indication that the car is tailgating or generally speeding above the average speed of vehicles in his lane (also wasting energy). Thanks Jerry, but I'd like to keep the lead-acid form factor and use the existing charger. [EVDL] EVLN: Tesla-X used as ‘rapid responder’ EV r:475km/295mi
https://electrek.co/2018/05/16/tesla-model-x-all-electric-first-responder-vehicle-ambulance-service/ Tesla Model X used as an all-electric ‘rapid responder’ vehicle for an ambulance service May. 16th 2018 Fred Lambert [image https://electrek.files.wordpress.com/2018/05/32659823_797251503818962_5951485677546766336_o1-e1526481762462.jpg?quality=82=1500#038;strip=all=1280 ] Tesla vehicles are surprisingly starting to invade all segments of emergency vehicles. After police and fire departments, now an ambulance service is using a Tesla Model X as an all-electric ‘rapid responder’ vehicle. Over the past few years, we have seen an impressive number of police and fire departments using electric vehicles. Tesla’s vehicles have surprisingly been especially popular despite their higher prices. But when it comes to first responder vehicles, performance is more important than price, which is why we are now seeing a Tesla Model X ambulance. At the Rettmobil 2018, an emergency mobility conference in German, UMCG Ambulancezorg, an ambulance service based in the Netherlands, unveiled a modified Tesla Model X all-electric SUV to use as a “rapid responder vehicle.” Tesla’s Model X has a range of up to 295 miles (475 km) and with 88 cu-ft of cargo stock, it can be modified with a significant amount of equipment in the back, but UMCG Ambulancezorg hasn’t released pictures of it yet (if you have any from Rettmobil 2018, please send them our way). The company said on Twitter about the unveiling of the vehicle: One of the important steps in sustainable Emergency services in the Netherlands. We take responsibility! As far as we know, it’s indeed a first for a Tesla vehicle. It could also help push for the electrification of full-size ambulance vehicles. While it’s a first for an ambulance service, we have previously seen Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles used as “emergency vehicles” by a fire department. Police departments have also started to use Tesla vehicles. Ontario Provincial Police got a Model X and Swiss Police replaced diesel cruisers with 7 Tesla Model X 100Ds. In the US, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Denver Police Department are both using Model S sedans as part of their fleets. In Europe, Scotland Yard says that it is considering the vehicle as a police cruiser and Luxembourg police just deployed two Tesla Model S vehicles into operation.
