[Evolution] Evolution problem

I have a simple X application that traps ClientMessage events, checks
to see that they don't correspond to WM_DELETE_WINDOW or
WM_SAVE_YOURSELF messages if not, terminates the program with a query.

When evolution (2.4) starts  it seems to be broadcasting a
ClientMessage, which my program picks up and then exits.   The
theevent.xclient.data.l array is all zero.

This is easy to protect against, but I'm suprised that evolution (or
gnome) needs to do this broadcast.

 I have a typical problem in my office .We are using
Evolution 2.6as a mail client in our office. Frequently the users are
complaining that
the same mails are downloaded from the mail server repeatedly. I dont know
what problem this could be.. any suggestion would be of great help.

running in debug mode from the command line, since last week when I
changed from 64bit opensuse 10.3 to 32bit, evolution has been almost
like a real mail tool, I was quite happy.
This morning, I have been getting quite a few hangs, and "Lost
connections to backend Exchange process" errors. 
As I did 15 times a day in the 64bit OS I will exit the tool, sometimes
with the X in the application GUI or I have to kill with pkill -f
evolution, then restart the client. Well about the 5th time today that
it hung, upon restart it instantly has the following messages in my
terminal. And a constant no connection.

I am back to using my Outlook client in VMware at the moment. I have
tested the web interface and it connects and works just fine as well.
So, I don't think this is a server issue. 
I have a ton of email that I migrated into evolution and need to know if
there are some files I should remove to restore good working behavior.

I checked through the FAQ I don't see anything related to this to help,
I have been reading mail for the last month and have seen no similar
issues, so relying upon you folks to help me get back to a working state
in evolution.

I can not see images in emails
it worked before but the last 15 days the thumbnails are not visible and
if I click on a picture I can not view the website.
I need to copy paste the picture link in firefox to access the site.

[Evolution] Evolution Problem.

   I am using evolution mailclient in fedora11 .I didnt taken backup for
several months .I used option restore settings of one year before
backup(i.e,nothing but old backup) and after restoration my current
mails,settings all are gone.Please kindly do the needful.

[Evolution] Evolution problem - contacts

Hi,

I'm running Evolution 2.4.1 on Ubuntu Breezy (5.10)  Recently I lost the ability to add or update my contacts, (do not know why.)
When I try to do either one - it brings up the contact dialog box then gives me an error message of :

"Error Adding contact
contact not found"

and I have to close the error message and dialog box before I can do anything else.

This happens in all modes for adding or modifying contacts.

How can i fix this?

Just curious 

- Are filters being used ?
- Is a slow link being used with pop/imap account ?
- Was there a disconnection prior to duplicate mail issue ?

As a temporary workaround, try out evolution-remove-duplicates plugin
for evolution .  works like a charm for me .

Are you implying from your questions that having a slow connection would cause resends (and thus duplicates) if a partial message was received?  Is Evolution creating a duplicate instead of appending to or deleting the original message. This is plausible in our case and would explain a lot if it were true.

For starters, make sure your "Exchange Operations" plugin is enabled.
That bugger likes to disable itself from time to time, for reasons I've
yet to figure out.

It was already enabled, I unchecked it re-checked it restarted and still not 
working properly. I see new messages in the inbox but "Unable to retrieve 
message Lost connection to Evolution Exchange backend process"

There have been a number of bugs fixed in 2.12.1, FWIW.  However, a
number of known bugs remain.

When I get into a state like this I (a) shut down evo, (b) make sure all
evolution processes are gone (with kill or pkill or whatever), then (c)
remove all cached mail from my exchange account:

rm -rf ~/.evolution/exchange ~/.evolution/mail/exchange

if you have other types of accounts (POP or IMAP), as I do, be careful
to delete just the "exchange" directories.

After this Evo will be slow to start the first time as it recreates the
inbox cache, and the first delete will also be slow as it recreates the
deleted items folder cache.  But, it should solve all your connectivity
issues.

These days I have to do this every few days, mainly due to this bug:

Thanks much for the info, I booted my SLED box and evo 2.6 was connecting
fine so I figured there would be a good fix.
I brought the Mac to work today so I am using Entourage I will give that a
shot tonight when I get home.

I can barely go an hour without this happening to my inbox.  I basically
just leave it truncated all the time now unless there's some specific
reason I think I might need older email.

As I've said before, I have up-to-date SVN, debug-enabled, non-optimized
Evo running and I'm relatively handy with a debugger etc.  If anyone
wants to work with me on some directed bug tracking I'm happy to spend
the effort.

There's also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442098 which is
my other big pain-point in Evo these days.

Last time these came up there was some thought that maybe if we just
wait for the new MAPI interface they'll go away; is that still where
we're at?

As I've told you several times on IRC already: If you overwrote your
current data by restoring an old backup, your old data was lost.

I think you mean his "current" settings are lost (current before he
overwrote them of course).

And as an aside, Fedora 11 is out of date and no longer supported.

[Evolution] Evolution problem connecting

Evolution returns error: "cannot send message: service not connected".

I have tried everything. I can receive remote mail but not send any 
using Evolution.  Thunderbird connects just fine with all the same 
connection data.

I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and Evolution 3.28.5-Obuntu0.18.04.1.
What am I doing wrong?

I dont remember anyone reporting this bug in evolution 2.4.1.
Error popsup while creating contact in 'Personal' addressbook or
addressbook in server ? 
Raise a bug in http://bugzilla.gnome.org, launch evolution-data-server
from terminal and evolution from other terminal. Paste traces printed in
terminal to the bugzilla.

Hi,
I do not think you do anything wrong, though I miss some information in
your query above, like what is the account type you use for sending? Is
it SMTP or any other (like sendmail, or Exchange Web Service (EWS), or
...)? Say it's SMTP, when you open the account Properties, can you
"Check for supported types" in the Authentication Type section? It
tries to talk to the server. Is your Edit->Preferences->Composer
Preferences set to send through Outbox or not? When you run evolution

Hi,
Evolution uses glib's gio streams, which use gnutls in the background.
Evolution (or Camel from evolution-data-server, to be precise) used to
use NSS/NSPR for this (I'm always confused which is for what from these
two), but it's a long time ago. I sometimes also see odd behavior when
the connection is busy (not necessarily from my machine, just on my
local network), which I believe is due to the way the gio streams work
in some cases. Nonetheless, it's only my hypotheses, not anything I
could prove or even anything I investigated into the deepness.

The problem e-mail accounts for me are twc (Times Warner Communications) which

the latter would keep asking for my password (on the Evolution side) but is

connected.”

I am moving my mail off the latter account as fast as I can.  I don't have
problems with my accounts through Arvixe and GoDaddy (both use cPanel).  It
appears that in the USA, the e-mail providers aiming at the residential market
give the most problems with Evolution.

[Evolution] evolution problem: "error scan folders"

All,

Installed SLED10 with evolution-2.6.0-49.20. After configuring
exchange setup using "ximian-connector-setup-2.6", evolution was
churning on "scanning folder..." finally came back with a pop-up
window of "Error scan folders on exchange ".

The following are all evolution related packages installed on the
system, any patches are missing or this is a bug in the version?

[Evolution] [evolution] Problem importing ICS files

I have a problem making use of ICS files. I'm pretty sure that in Fedora
23, double clicking would open an import dialogue and everything went
smoothly. Now, the system tries to do something when I double click the
file, but fails. When I use the Evolution import tool, the filetype
selection is greyed out and 'stuck' on Outlook Express Personal Folder.
Anyone an idea what is going wrong?

I am using:

3.12.9~git20141130.241663-1+b1   amd64

HORDE 5.2

LinuxMint Debian Edition aka Jessie


Evolution ist working, mail and addressbook via Carddav is working 
flawlessly. I can also detect and subscribe to my calendar. But no dates 
will be synced. Even if I manually trigge a resync Evolution works for 
some seconds but syncs nothing


Known issue? Or is there any newer DEB build available?

Run Evolution from the command line to see what's happening when you do
the double click (it's a start, but I'm not actually sure it will say
anything!)

Select a .ics file and the filetype will change.  Seems opposite to
what happens with other applications where the file selection is
filtered according to the filetype selected, but there you go.

If I create a new calendar entry in Evolution and click to save it -->
It lasts for at least a minute to save and close. But the calendar entry
is made and could be seen in my Horde calendar with the Horde frontend
and other calendar apps like lightning.
