Transaction logs
I have 30 some GB of transaction logs that are no longer used. (for what ever reasons).. I read this article that gave instructions on how to tell where the last log that was committed. The instructions are below. I want to run this by you'll before I do this. It is a valid thing to do? * How to manually (and safely) purge Exchange Server transaction logs To do this from a command line, go to the \Program Files\Exchsvr\bin directory on the server and run the following command: eseutil /mk C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\E00.chk (The quotes are important, as they delimit the full pathname for the file.) In the results returned you'll see these lines: LastFullBackupCheckpoint: (0x0,0,0) Checkpoint: (0x2,EC2,1C7) The first number in the Checkpoint entry -- 0x2 -- is a hexadecimal number that refers to the last checkpoint log. Therefore, any logs numbered E01.log or earlier could be removed. If the checkpoint was 0x14C8, then logs numbered E0014C7.log or earlier could be removed. Copy GAL to outlook contact folder
Is there a way (tool, script, util, program, etc.) that will allow someone to copy the GAL to the outlook contact folder? I am hoping to find a way to update the outlook contact folder with the GAL for our smart phones. Right now, since most of our users cannot do this themselves, I have to access each user's outlook and add the new GAL entry to their outlook contact folder. Our smart phones (windows mobile, and iphones) sync with our exchange server. And everyone loves the up to date contacts and the contacts are there for when they receive or make a call. I call it mandatory convenience, and I am responsible for making it all work, all the time, especially for the new people. Gene Giannamore Abide International Inc. Did I miss something here, doesn't Outlook automatically show your Exchange server address lists? You can have only one default GAL per person, but you can have other address lists that are published to Outlook and kept up to date automatically. I can see perhaps copying to local contacts for offline usage, but even then is it really worth the effort when you have Outlook Anywhere (RPC via HTTPS) ? Oops, Looks like I misread, yes WM 5 and up have GAL lookup so you don't need to sync the address book, choose company directory when you are looking up a contact and it will retrieve the info from the server. +1 with Don, static entries that require manual updating are a lousy way to go. -troy -Original Message- From: Don Andrews [mailto:don.andr...@safeway.com] Sent: Friday, February 20, 2009 2:30 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Copy GAL to outlook contact folder I'm lost - however I am a BB user not WM and we've got 60k+ GAL entries, but - doesn't WM allow GAL lookup? DOH! From outlook, open GAL, highlight, right click, add. Simple enough for my users. The iphone does not allow access to the GAL. Besides its nice to know if co-workers are calling. So if I copy/add the GAL to the outlook (mailbox's) contact folder, and the windows smartphone and the iphone sync to the mailbox's contact folder, then on the smartphone/iphone the contact list will have the GAL entries (as a copy).
