Re: [Finale] OT Time Signatures in MS Word documents
sexy! well, not really difficult (insert menu: field: equation), but it would take a minute to get the spacing right: it applies to the entire paragraph, there is no way to have it affect only the line in which the time sig is found. and i haven't managed to make it work with maestro/engraver, even at line height of 0.5 (multiple) the spacing between the numbers is far too large. using exact line height doesn't work either. should be a comma, not semi-colon: EQ \A(3,2), i believe (worked for me) The hard way is the Equation feature in Word, which allows to align vertically two numbers, but you might have problem with vertical spacing. The following field will align the 3 and the 2 vertically: {EQ \A(3;2)} ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

RE: [Finale] OT Time Signatures in MS Word documents
I just tried it in Word and it come out like this: http://www.yatesguitar.com/misc/MusicMeter.pdf Use the settings in Format...Font. The 3 is superscript and larger than normal type, the 4 is subscript and larger than normal. Set character spacing to "condensed" and "by [the altered font size]". For other signatures you could just copy this pair and change the numbers. In a paragraph you may also have to alter the line spacing of that line. I can't guarantee anything, but it looks like it works. Re: [Finale] OT Time Signatures in MS Word documents
Michael, This is what I do for my theory handouts, exams, etc: Any "musical notation object" like a time signature that I can not port over to Word using one of the notation fonts becomes an image file in Finale. That image file is then inserted into Word (or PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) HTH McGowan -- From: "Michael Lawlor" Sent: Sunday, March 21, 2010 10:54 AM To: Subject: [Finale] OT Time Signatures in MS Word documents Does anyone have any suggestions on methods for typing/inserting time signatures in WORD documents, ideally so that the numbers are vertically in line? Re: [Finale] copying part layout to another linked part
Hi Ryan, There is a TG Tool to do this. Modify/Transfer Layout. Make sure Automatic Update Layout is turned on, or you will not see the layout change. Without this tool, linked parts can be more trouble than they are worth, and it seems to me that the tool ought to be included within Finale. I was struggling with this aspect of 2010, until Tobias caught up. Am I remembering incorrectly? I know about the Copy System Optimization, but that's within a part. I want to do it to another linked part in the same file. Anyhow, big orchestra piece and basically all the horns play at the same time, as do all the strings. I'd like to just set up the Horn 1 part, then just copy all the measure layout and system margin info and paste it into the Horn 2, Horn 3, and Horn 4 parts. Do the same with Violin 1, and copy to the rest of the string section. Is such a shortcut possible? Ryan ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale For System Margins, they should be the same by default for every part. If you want to change them for every part (or only some parts) go to the Page Layout tool, Page Layout Menu>Systems>Edit Margins. A window opens called Change System Margins. Click on the system whose characteristics you want and all the info will appear in the window. Uncheck any boxes you DON'T want copied (sometimes I don't want Distance Between Systems), and choose the range of systems you want (typically I don't want the first system changed, so my range is 2 to [blank] so it copies things until the end. Now comes the cool part. You can apply it just to this part by clicking the Apply button, or to EVERY PART that you want by clicking the Apply to Parts/Score button and choosing what parts you want to apply it to. I suspect, however, that what you really want in this case is for the system breaks (locks) you put in Horn 1 to be copied to Horn 2, etc. This is in TG Tools (pro version) Modify>Transfer>Layout. You can also transfer system margins here, if these are different from system to system, but as I said, I suspect that you want these to be the same for EVERY system in a part, so I typically only check "Locked measure groups" in this window. The only warning is that after pasting the layout into Horn 2, you have to manually update layout to see the results. I often have to respace the music, too. DON'T be in the Staff Tool for this, because if you hit 4 (meaning to apply note spacing) while in the Staff Tool you end up applying Tenor Sax transposition Staff Style instead! This seems to happen to me at least once per large chart, so I check the parts now for correct transposition.
