Re: [Finale] Fin2k6 whoes (GPO, Default File)

2005-08-07 Thread Johannes Gebauer
I haven't tried it in 2k6, but in earlier versions the default file
names used for the wizard were hardwired, and you could rename them.

I am pretty sure this is still the case.

However, this problem I solved. The problem was that my new file had a
hidden .mus suffix (as it should), while MM requires this file to not
have a suffix.

Here's how I made it work:

1) Put your default file in the 2006 Components File and name it
something other than a Finale name i.e. Perhaps JG Default.
2) Highlight the file name in this case JG Default and command-C copy
to clipboard.
3) Go to OptionsProgram OptionsNew and in the box next to Default
Document paste in the name of your default document(it's important
to use copy and paste)

4) Make sure the radio button selected is Default Document
5) You can set Startup Action: to anything you like. I have mine set
to No Action so that I can just type command-N to open up my custom
document.
6) While still in program options select folders from the list on the
left side and make sure that your components file setting is pointed to
the right file...

7) Quit and restart Finale.

Hope this helps,

Karen

Everytime I get to the last page of the wizard it tells me it cannot
find the Default file and creates a file without libraries. Can I not
use my own default file?

2) If I use the wizard with the GPO option, is it really true that I
have to use the GPO instruments as part names? I want my violins called
Violino I and Violino II, not Violino 1 and Violino 2.
This one seems to me to be completely stupid. If this is the case, I
have about had it with FinGPO.

That's why I suggest making a copy of it -- that way if your edited
version doesn't work (can't imagine why it wouldn't work) you can revert
to the original.

Re: [Finale] Fin2k6 whoes (GPO, Default File)

2005-08-06 Thread Johannes Gebauer

No 1) I solved myself.

The GPO issue is worse than I thought. If I create a string quartet, the
instruments are called Violino 1, Violino 2, Viola, Cello. They should
be called Violin I, Violino II, Viola, Violoncello.

That's three out of four wrong, by any European Standard. How do I
change this. It amazes me the the wizard needs me to set up a special
GPO thing to be able to use GPO. It should be smart enough to assign
instruments according to my choice of parts which I make with the
instrument.txt file (which I obviously change to use Italian names,
which MM still hasn't managed to do, even though I know of no European
style score of classical music that uses anything but Italian names,
certainly not English names)!

I cannot believe this at all. This is a huge step backwards.

Re: [Finale] Fin2k6 whoes (GPO, Default File)

2005-08-06 Thread dhbailey
I just looked in the instrument.txt file and the ensemble.txt and the
violins are all listed with roman numerals. The violoncello is listed
as simply cello but I suppose you could edit those files (probably
best to make copies first in case you need to revert) and edit that.

As to why they are appearing with arabic numerals instead of roman
numerals, only those at MakeMusic can answer. It is particularly
puzzling because in those two files, they are listed differently than
they appear onscreen.

There is a file called gpoinstrument.txt which you could make a copy of
and then edit to change those arabic numerals to roman numerals, and
change cello to violoncello.

It is indeed curious that this Garritan Personal Orchestra wouldn't
observe long-standing orchestral traditions.

But hopefully this can provide you with a way out of your dilemma.

Just be sure to have backup copies of the original files before you edit
them.
