Re: Tools for Trimming Manes
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks to all for the great advice on mane trimming! I'm sure both my hand and Molson will be grateful...especially if this makes the job quicker. I actually did resort to electric clippers last time, but I just don't have the finesse to do a good job with them yet. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Janet, I'm in the process of adding up the selenium content of the guys' various feeds. I think we'll be OK because the amount of selenium in their non-hay feeds is small. I use selenium-free mineral blocks. They get a small amount of Nutrena Safe Choice which does not list any selenium, and I'm considering using Omega Horseshine which has 0.72 ppm min. Does anyone know this supplement? Thank you for the tip about considering the cumulative amount of minerals in their feed. Re: Fiskars for mane trimming
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I use the Fiskars "Soft Touch" scissors/shears. They are light weight, have big, padded, comfortable, spring loaded grips, and nice sharp blades. I also recommend the Fiskars brand sharpener to go with them - best one I have found. You can see a photo of them on Amazon.com at the following address - _http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Softouch-Scissors/dp/B00061OFYK/ref=pd_bbs_6/102-33616 13-8697731?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1186852810&sr=8-6_ (http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Softouch-Scissors/dp/B00061OFYK/ref=pd_bbs_6/102-3361613-8697731?ie=UTF8&s=hp c&qid=1186852810&sr=8-6) If that link doesn't work, just search Amazon.com for "Fiskars Softouch Scissors". I have just recently gotten my second pair - first pair is still good but I've lost a spring - after using them for 9+ years on my Fjords. I usually find them at Walmart with no problem. Re: Tools for Trimming Manes
This message is from: wendee berman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Try a sewing or dressmaking supply website or store. You want shears rather than scissors because they are heavier. I got mine at Joanne's in the upholstery section. Don't remember the brand but they can be used for cutting heavy duty upholstery materials like tapestry and damask. then you'll want to keep your lighter weight scissors to make tiny little corrections. I like the idea of cutting when the mane is wet. Definitely going to try that. After all, beauticians always wet or dampen hair before cutting it. (Don't know about barbers.) NFHR Board of DIRECTORS Nominations Open
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Okay, it's early in the morning and I'm off to the Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Show with fellow Fjord owners, Curt Pierce, Marsha Korose and Sue Freivald.? I did run spell check on the text of my message, but only caught the typo in the heading when I hit send.? Arghh!? It really is the NFHR Board of Directors, a group that has "direction" and purpose in making the registry work well for us Fjord owners.? NFHR Board of Directions Nominations are Open
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is directed toward all the current NFHR members on the List.? The Herald is out, but hasn't reached some of us (myself included) so I wanted to remind everyone that nominations are being accepted for the NFHR Board.? You have until September 1 to indicate your interest in running in this year's election. We have a number of Evaluations this month at La Crosse, Moses Lake and Herndon.? This would be a great time to talk to current Board members and to Mike May about the work of the Board.? I will be the first to say that serving on the Board is a volunteer activity that takes a time commitment.? The NFHR is a small association and the Board does a good bit of the heavy lifting to accomplish the NFHR's work.? At the same time, it's work that?makes a difference.? If you have any questions about serving on the?NFHR Board, please feel free to contact me, any current Board member, or Mike May for more information.??? Margaret Bogie Ironwood?
