Premarin Info
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello, I asked one of our representatives, Marti Graham from PMUBabyTrek, the question on if this new information concerning Premarin would hurt the industry, and this was her response: Has the arcticle on Premarin hurt the industry? Yes. How much? I don't know yet. I would expect the Alberta farms to be the first to be affected as they are the furthest from the plant, which is in Manitoba. I think the drought could be affecting Alberta more, this would explain the unloading of young horses, yearlings and weanlings especially, since they would have one or two more years of feed for the mares for the first foaling. And the males would be the first to go, as you have to feed them to fat, and if the cost ratio of the feed to the price of slaughter is not good, then they would go earlier. Later, future, I expect the premarin industy to keep going down, and then the mares, etc. will be going to market So all of you know, The UEF has already organized a task force if you will, of four of us who will be calling every PMU farm throughout Canada. Luckily, most PMU farms would prefer to work with groups versus sending their horses and offspring to slaughter facilities, but this is a business to them, so advance arrangements are necessary. All PMU farms with Fjords or Fjord crossbreeds will be forwarded to me so I can attempt to make any arrangements for purchase through the UEF I am able to. First project for me right now, however, is dealing with this Alberta feedlot. Lynda C. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Why is this even an issue? Where is the ASPCA and all the other groups that jump all over such practices? Here in New York, an elderly man was arrested for trapping a rat that was eating his garbage and then killing it by conking it on the head. He had originally called the ASPCA or whatever to remove the live-captured rat and do with it as they saw fit. The case was tossed by the judge after the city populace poured ridicule on the agencies involved. Another man was arrested for throwing a rock at a flap-rat pigeon that had just soiled him. And yet these farms are allowed to continue doing this to horses. Could this be why they are all in Canada, do they have no animal or horse protection groups north of the border? Would they quickly be sued out of existence if they tried to operate in the US? I wonder... Merek PS. Lars is slowly regaining the lost weight. The care facility I sent him to found no real medical problems and just did a thorough tooth job and some hormones and a $1000 bill. I since found out that the stable manager may have been cutting the horses feed as he ran out of money in the last few months. That, and Lars normal tendancy to stop eating and lose some weight every Spring may have been the cause. There is new management now, and they are seeing to making sure he is properly maintained, and the results are slowly showing. I WILL have to watch this carefully in the future. Other than that, he is being killed by my Icelandic. He won't stop teasing Styggur, and he won't learn that he is slower to dodge than Styggur, so he has all the bite and kick marks. Merek

This message is from: Laura Grimwood [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi! I was watching a show on premarin on OLN and they were acting like Premain isn't bad, becuase the mares get lots of good food and a nice warm shelter. They said like about 30 seconds on how some foals went to the slaughterhouse, but didn't make a big deal of it. Well, it IS a big deal. Laura

This message is from: katy/liz/bill/cha/afa/eda [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi all- On the topic of Premarin (PREgnant MARe urINE), there were a bunch of foals from the mares that came down here from Canada to be adopted. My old riding instructor has one now -- I think the foal is doing well. It is such a horrible practice! I can't believe that anyone would want to take a drug made from horse urine anyway! Especially after mucking out stalls and smelling that ammonia UGH! Katy

I am taking Estradiol and Provera. This tactic works well if you are not allergic to Provera, which some people are, unfortunately. For us it's the Premarin - or it's less than consistent synthetic alternative - or nothing at all. Mary = Mary Thurman Raintree Farms [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! In general, synthetics are much more economical to produce, so I would think the drug companies would be pushing those more. Can you imagine the cost of production of having all these farms, collecting the urine, transporting it, and refining it. It would be much easier to just manufacture it in a factory. Would you rather have something injected into you that was made from horse pee, or from nice, clean chemicals? I assume they charge a whole lot more for the natural version, or possibly the sythetic is made by the competition. There's a research project for someone out there. Merek

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Merek, there is a synthetic substitiute that is just as good. The horses are suffering for Mr. Drugdealers's bottom line.
