Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 Power Connector
If you are buying a crimper, look at Powerwerx. You can change out the dies, which you cannot do with the crimper from West Mountain. At least if other dies are available for the WM crimper, I have never found them. That's good to know. I knew the dies were removable on the West Mountain but I never could find the die set. Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 Power Connector
Greg and Dave, 14AWG? Isn't this going to be a 100W rig? Don't most 100W rigs draw 20-25 amps on peaks? Won't the wire heat up due to the resistance? I would consider 10 AWG. It will fit the 30A PowerPoles snug but it works great. Another thing, don't try to use the cheap crimpers, they cannot crimp the connection good enough. Either buy the purpose built type or solder them on(be sure to keep the flux off the contacts too). This will insure you have a good, low resistance connection between your PSU and your new Flex Rig. Here's a website to calculate the voltage drop of the wire (remember, you have to count the length of the positive and the negative path). http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm Another thing, be careful of some of the 10AWG wire being sold on EBay, Amazon and some other websites, it's more like 11 AWG. 73 from, Bill Dau, N9OE -Original Message- From: Flexedge [mailto:flexedge-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Greg Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2013 4:51 PM To: David Kjellquist Cc: flexe...@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 Power Connector Dave I would think it would come with an appropriate power cable. Bill, 10 AWG is not snug if you get PowerPole connectors with the 45 Amp contacts instead of the normal 30 Amp contacts.
