Re: I need fo:retrieve-table-marker example or how to implement continued label in FOP-95?

2008-08-26 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I posed this issue to a fellow colleague and offered him a lunch to figure
it out. I am happy to say I now owe him a lunch. The solution was so simple.
Instead of putting a marker in the fo:table-header, put a marker on every
row. The first rows marker will be empty. The rest will have the "continued"
marker. We tested in 0.95 and works like a charm.

ErrorListener [0.95]

2008-08-28 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

Using FOP 0.95 embedded; is there a way to pipe the warnings/info messages
to an ErrorListener?

e.g.

TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
ErrorListener listener = new ErrorListener() {

public void warning(TransformerException exception) throws
TransformerException {
System.out.println("[error] " + exception);
}

public void error(TransformerException exception) throws
TransformerException {
System.out.println("[error] " + exception);
}

public void fatalError(TransformerException exception)
throws TransformerException {
System.out.println("[error] " + exception);
}
};

 factory.setErrorListener(listener);

Jeremias,

This is perfect I just finished running this in a sandbox swing app. This
allows control over what gets spit out by all events. Nice work.

In the sandbox, I just piped all the messages to an Arraylist, which can
either be sent to the app, out to a text file, or ignored for the end user.

Nice!

My pleasure. I've been playing with this all morning. This has a lot of
possibilities. The framework is very flexible. Since I am able to catch all
the messages rather then sending them to the gui app or std.out in real
time, the process speeds up.

Re: Page Numbering wooes (FOP to PDF)

2008-12-31 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

There are a number of ways that a blank page can be generated. So a lot
depends on how your fo:layout-master-set is designed for that page-master.
For example, I usually print out a blank page as follows:

In my fo:layout-master-set I have:

And I call it like follows:

Notice how my simple-page-master doesn't have a fo:region-after, therefore
no footer is created.

You will have to see how your blank page is being generated.

0.95 Trunk - Text not wrapping in cell - keep-together.within-column="always"

2009-01-06 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

In the below example, I am trying to create change bars along side a table
cell. I was able to do this in 0.20.5 with the example below. In the trunk
version, if I add the attribute padding-end="13pt" to the block of a cell,
the text does not wrap. If I remove it, the text wraps, but I loose my
"change bar".
I am not sure if this is a bug, or maybe there is a better way to accomplish
my original goal.

Example:

Re: table-rows spanning more than one page

2009-01-18 Thread bonekrusher

Thanks Jeremias,

I was able to get it working, however I come across a problem if the table
is nested inside a cell.
I've attached a working example. The nested table runs into the
region-after. I worked on this all day and can't seem to figure it out. Can
either you or Andreas take a look?

Thanks,

Phil

Ok,

If I found the source of the problem. If the table (the table wrapper) has a
parent fo:block, this causes the problem. When I remove it, it works fine.
Is this correct behavior?

Phil

I am trying to cut down the fo to see what maybe causing this (its a very

Error occurred during initialization of VM

2009-04-02 Thread bonekrusher

Hi All,

This question is probably Java issue, but I want to run by this list first.
I am running FOP 0.025 on 2 machines. Because the XML files are very large I
set the heap size to Xmx1056mb. On one machine it works and another I get
this error:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

Machine 1 (works) stats:
Intel Duel Core CPU @2.10GHz/2.07 GHz
2.99 GB Ram
Java 1.6.0_11
jdk 1.6.0_11

Machine 2 (doesnt work) Stats:
Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00 GHz
2.00 GHz, 3.24 GB of RAM
Java 1.6.0_11

As you can see I have enough memory in both machines. The only difference is
Machine 1 has the JDK. Could this be the issue or its a configuration issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Re: xslt and xslfo

2009-07-20 Thread bonekrusher

Hi Ming,

No, you can not build the fo file first and add the xsl piece later on. XSLT
does not work this way. The fo namespace is required to output fo
instructions to meet the xsl-fo specification which is read by FOP.

Altova's stylevision is good when you are just learning, but eventually you
will need to learn how to code xsl-fo.

Phil

fo:table breaks in fo:block-container

2009-09-04 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I have a table inside a fo:block-container. The block-container's
orientation is 90 degrees (see attached). When the table rows exceeds the
table width, the table does not break to the next page. I've attached a
working example. How do I get the the table to break to the next page?

fo:repeatable-page-master-alternatives - first only page blank condition

2010-03-26 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

How can I set up my repeatable-page-master-alternatives to detect a page
sequence that has only one page and the next page is blank?

My desired output is to have a recto-verso document, so the pages
end-on-even. If the last page is odd, an even blank page is printed. The odd
page will display in the region after "Page 1 / 2 Blank" to indicate the
next page is intentionally left blank. Everything works with the following
code, unless the page sequence is only a single odd page.

When I add another condition:

Like this:

every first page gets the condition applied (page-position="only"). How do I
set the condition for a page sequence for one-page-only-odd?

Thanks

Help embeding fonts

2010-04-15 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I am using the following in my fop.xconf to embed fonts. Everything works on
my PC, but when I run on a different machine, the fonts are not found:

fop.xconf

I have converted the font matrix with org.apache.fop.fonts.apps.TTFReader to
xml and placed them in a folder "file:///C:/Program Files
(x86)/fop-0.95/fonts"

FOP reports:

Apr 13, 2010 2:05:47 PM org.apache.fop.fonts.FontInfo notifyFontReplacement
WARNING: Font 'Arial,normal,700' not found. Substituting with
'any,normal,700'.

The file structure is the same on both machines...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

however on another machine (PC) only the first page shows up.

I am using all the exact files on both machines (via svn).

here is the fo code:

Any thoughts why this would work on one machine and not another?

Re: Created XSLT_FO by Altova StyleVision, not work on Apache FOP

2010-05-08 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

Your xml and xslt transform fine via FOP 0.95 command line. What version of
apache are you using?

I am confused about what you mean by export the .sps file and save as
xsl_fo. Do you mean you generate the xslt file from stylevision?

Are you using apache from the command line or through XMLSpy?

I would suggest breaking away from using stylevision. This is a cool tool to
make the WYSIWYG, but has a lot of limitations when writing FO.

Re: Created XSLT_FO by Altova StyleVision, not work on Apache FOP

2010-05-09 Thread bonekrusher

Happy to help. It looks like you are using the default xslt processor for fop
which uses Apache Xalan-J, a xslt 1.0 processor (http://xalan.apache.org/).
Your stylesheets is for a 2.0 processor. Export your stylevision sps project
to a xsl-fo 1.0 file.

Good luck.

fo:marker bleeding issue [fop 0.95 & FOP 1.0]

2010-08-25 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

In order to have "table headers continued" in my pdf output, I am using
markers. Everything works fine until there is more then one line on the 1st
marker and there is a second marker. If the 1st marker is more than one line
and I add a second marker, the marker bleeds into the table on the second
page (see attached pdf). One solution to to increase the @margin-top on the
region-body. The problem with that is there are many times when the markers
are not needed and there is a huge whitespace where the markers would go.
For example, if the margin-top="1.0in", there would be a one inch whitespace
if the markers are not called.

See attached example fo and pdf. Page 2 of the pdf is where the problem
occurs. I need the table to start below "Table 3. Table Title Marker -
Continued".

I am not sure how to resolve this.

Is there an XSL 1.1 schema or DTD to help validate xsl-fo at authoring

xsl:message for debuging

2008-02-27 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I use the following XSL-FO to output messages to the console (windows).

END template: match="warning"

I want it to display:

END template: match="warning"

But it displays this:

Feb 27, 2008 1:10:22 PM org.apache.fop.cli.InputHandler warning
WARNING: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: END template:
match="warning"

This is happening with any xsl:message. Is there a way to disable this?

Or am I doing soething wrong?

Thx

Proportionally size the image based on the graphics height and width

Hi,

I have an XSL-FO that allows users to add graphics dynamically. I need to be

Thanks for the help.

Create your own Extention

Hi,

I was wondering if there was any simple tutorials out there to create an
extension with XSLT and FOP. I am looking for a way to check to see if an

I know a little Java (enough to get me in trouble). I am able to write XSLT
extensions with .NET, but I would like to learn how to do it in Java.

Thanks for the help.

A few weeks back I posted a question in regards to the availability of a
XSL-FO DTD. I received a few good responses that pointed me
http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/fo.html#fo-validate.

I wanted to take it a step forward. Using LiveDTD I converted an unofficial
DTD to HTML for easy reading. I posted the page on my site and was wondering
if anyone on the list thinks its worth wild to post the link.

I thought I could do something to "give back" to the forum for all its help.

Look forward to your responses.

fo:marker - help with 2 different tables

2008-03-23 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I;ve been working on this for days and seem to keep going in circles. I am
trying to create a marker when a table breaks between pages. The marker will
be on the second thru last pages only.

The problem is when I have two tables back to back. The markers work as they
are suppose to on the first table, however when I have the second table, I
get an unexpected marker "- (O) PROCEDURE MIDDLE" on the first page of the
2nd table.

if the first table finishes at the end of a page, I do not want the next
page to say ""- (O) PROCEDURE MIDDLE" as this is the start of the second
table, if should be "BLANK".

Here is my code xsl:

- For the sake of troubleshooting:

I use the following makers for the first table:

"BLANK" for 1st occurrence of the table
"- (M) PROCEDURE MIDDLE" - all tables that are not the first page and not
the last page
"- (M) PROCEDURE END" for the last occurrence of the table

I use the following markers for the 2nd table:

"BLANK" for 1st occurrence of the table
"- (O) PROCEDURE MIDDLE" - all tables that are not the first page and not
the last page
"- (O) PROCEDURE END" for the last occurrence of the table

My retrieve-markers are in the "xsl-region-before" :

Here are my tables is the "xsl-region-body"

- (M) PROCEDURE
MIDDLE

  (M) PROCEDURE

- (M) PROCEDURE
END

- (O) PROCEDURE
MIDDLE
BLANK

(O)
PROCEDURE

table-continue-label and FOP 0.94

2008-03-24 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

Reading the documentation on FOP extentions, the table-continue-label
extention has not been implemented in FOP 0.94. I was wonder how people are
handling the "table continues" when there is a dynamic title in the header.

For example:

TABLE 1: DEFINITIONS
TABLE 1: DEFINITIONS - CONTINUED

I have tried using markers, however a marker is placed staticly. In the
above example, if TABLE 2 has a header title TABLE 2:FOO AND BAR TOTALS, the
marker would overlap the header title.

Any advice on the matter would be a great help.

http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.93/extensions.html#table-continue-label

Thanks

Re: FOP 0.94 - Unkown Error

2008-03-25 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I wanted to follow up on this error. I have been swamped, so I have not been
able to test my FO under Trunk. Nevertheless I found what was partly
triggering the error.

If the border attribute is not defined, the error occurs, when I set the
border to:

Everything works.

I am still troubleshooting whats happening upstream, because not all my
tables have a border attribute and do not cause the error.

Hope this helps someone with the same error.

I will try to keep the list posted on any additional findings.

Regards

Bones

Re: fox:continued-label

2008-04-04 Thread bonekrusher

Thank you Kamal and Andreas,

I commend those that are working on the source code for the FOP project. I
am sure its no easy task. I would love to take this on, but my knowledge of
Java is limited at best. I've only been working with Java for a few months.

I might have a possible solution to table header markers, which I will try
out today. If it works, I will post the work-a-round solution.

As for Andreas comment "The element is already implemented in my local
sandbox," - Thats great news. I look foward to it in an up comming release.

Once again, Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Bones

Running FOP 0.94 from a server

2008-04-04 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I am running XML to PDF from a server. Everything works fine except when I
have a stylesheet that imports another. e.g.

I receive an error "can not compile stylesheet"

I suspect my problem is with the href path. Will the href path be relative
to the main stylesheet or the FOP.jar file?

Thanks

Hi Eric,

Thank you for the reply. I understand how works and how they

XML to PDF (embedded) images paths

2008-04-16 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

This might be a dumb question but I am trying to get an understanding of
best practices.

I have an XSLT that creates my PDF. My @src path is
always going to be a relative path. e.g. src="file:g0001.png". When
running XML - PDF I get "image not found".

When I use XML-FO-PDF, I know my paths need to be relative to the FO file.

This is my question. If doing XML-PDF where is my relative path?

Thanks,

Add blank page number citation to next page

2008-06-19 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I a have a specification that states:

"A blank page shall be assigned a number, but it will appear on the either
the page before or after."

For example:

If page 35 was blank, page 36 page number would be:

36 (Blank 35)

Is there a way to do this with XSLT and FO?

Thanks

Re: region-after set size to auto

2008-06-19 Thread bonekrusher

Andreas,

Thanks for the help.

I will stick to the calculation, it seems to work well. If it poses a
problem in the future, I will try your suggestion.

Thanks again.

FOP 0.20.5 Preserve Whitespace

2008-06-23 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

I am using FOP 0.20.5 - I am trying to preserve whitespace but it's not
working. I tried both examples below with no luck.

Thanks

2008-06-23 Thread bonekrusher

Hi Andreas,

As always, thank you for your help. I am stuck with 0.20.5 due to the fact
that 0.94 or 0.95 do not support either fo:table-continued or fox extension
"Continued-label".

do" list. As for my white space... I will keep working on it. :)

fo:list-item - Keep together

2008-07-03 Thread bonekrusher

Hi,

How do I keep a list-item's contents from splitting on a page break? I've
tried using keep-together="always", but it still splits the contents.

Thanks for the help. I am using FOP 0.20.5, which from what I read doesn't
work. So I am going to use hidden tables.

Thanks for the help.
