RE: RAM

2001-09-04 Thread Deen, Ron

Whatever you do: do not install PC compliant memory. I MUST be Sun Sparc
compliant. The SUN standards are a bit higher. PC memory just won't work
reliable and should not be used.
We buy RAM from Sun (it is Sun partnumbered and more expensive) because
customers do, sort of, rely on the Foxboro systems to work properly.

Since I'm not a lawyer (thank God!), I'll leave the contractual nuances and
obligations to you all to consider, but we've upgraded RAM in some of our
Sun workstations by buying them direct. Our boxes didn't self-destruct.

A reliable source (which was recommended here a while ago) is MemoryX. I
have no connection with it other than being a satisfied customer. For the
B-style boxes, check these pages out:

Memory for Sparc5:

Sun-manufactured memory:

For the D/E-style boxes, start here:

Hope this helps.

Speaking of RAM. We just got an estimate for how much Foxboro would charge
to upgrade our 4 WP's and 1 AW to 256 MB of RAM. It was on the order of
$20K plus. We all know materials is 1/20 of the total installed cost. My
question is since RAM is readily available what would Foxboro's stance be if
we upgraded ourselves? We have a service agreement with them. Would it be
all bets are off or would RAM problems be unsupported or would all future
problems be blamed on RAM? Maybe I shouldn't ask but I find this cost
ridiculous. It would be a tremendous performance boost but I can't justify
it as a stand alone upgrade. We are going to have to tie it to a software
upgrade to capitalize it.

Period-Phase

2001-09-04 Thread Allen Hansie

Hi All,

BPC of Our Modicon Gateway--MG is 1 sec.

   Now that in any block of that MG while I am setting Period as 4
,Detail display if particular block is showing period as 10 sec and while I
am setting Period as 5 detail display is showing Period as 30 sec.

  But Perid-Phase Parameter report using dbvu -s for that MG shows as
below

   Period
0   1   2   3   4   5   67
CP-sec  10  30
Gateway 4   8

As shown it is different for CP & MG. But in detail display it shows
according to CP.So what is the actual scan time?

   In CP It takes Period as 4 ad Phase from 0 to 9 but in MG it takes Period
as 4 and Phase from 0 to 3 only.Same for Period 5 also For CP It takes phase
upto 29 and for MG upto 7 only.

So I think what ever is seen in detail display og Block Of MG is wrong and
is according to CP Only.

Anybody is having the same condition?This create importance because we had
one trip and timimg of alarm s were not matching and we thought according
period of detail display.

What is to done to correct the same?

If you suspect a disk is full, first you need to determine which mount
point is full.

 From vt100 mode try the following

df -k /
df -k /usr
df -k /var
df -k /opt
df -k /tmp

If any of these are show 100% under the capacity, then that's the file
system with the problem. Start looking for the usual suspects like core
files, crash files, tar files, or log files that grow forever. Now start
drilling through the disk using the du command to find these really large
files, if they can safely be deleted, whack them.

Good luck,
David

RE: AW BOXES

2001-09-04 Thread Airhart, Chad M.

I don't think so. I thought the daughter boards are supposed to be 150 MHz.
single processors. I cannot find any documentation on it though. They were
installed as a test at our plant and became permanent since the 51E's we
were promised as replacements for the problematic 51C's were no longer an
option after the daughterboard development.

RE: Disabling Return Receipt Notification in lotus Notes

2001-09-04 Thread duc . do

Thanks, Jeremy. For those of you using Microsoft Outlook, follow these steps
to disable request of or reply to these notifications by default. They may
not be exactly like these steps (which are for Outlook 2000), but you get
the idea:

Tools | Options...
on the Preferences tab, pick "E-mail Options..." button
on the subsequent dialogue box, pick "Tracking Options..." and uncheck:
 Process requests and responses on arrival
 Process receipts on arrival
 Request a read receipt for all messages I send
 Request a delivery receipt for all messages I send

If you really want to request a receipt for your message, you can still
request it on a per-message basis. How to do this is left as an exercise to
the interested readers.

Subject: Disabling Return Receipt Notification in lotus Notes

I have found an easy way to disable the Return Receipt Notifications
that we seem to be having problems with. This works for Lotus Notes 5:

1. Open the Create menu and choose Agent
2. Change the Name to "Disable Return Receipt Notification"
3. Change when should it run to "After new mail has arrived"
4. Click the "Add Action" button near the bottom
5. Choose "@Function Formula" in the Action box
6. Paste the text below into the box

FIELD ReturnReceipt:= ReturnReceipt;
FIELD Subject:= Subject;
@If(@IsAvailable(ReturnReceipt);
@If(ReturnReceipt = "1";
@Do(
@SetField("ReturnReceipt"; "0");
@SetField("Subject"; "** INFO: DISABLED \"Return Receipt\" ** " +
Subject)); ""); "");
SELECT @All

7. Hit Escape and select Save

Now whenever an email is received that requests a return receipt, the
subject will be
changed to include "** INFO: DISABLED "Return Receipt" ** "
at the start, and the return receipt will not be sent.

RE: RAM

2001-09-04 Thread duc . do

Memory for Sparc5:
http://www.memoryx.net/sparc5.html

House-brand memory:

Sun-manufactured memory:

http://www.memoryx.net/5953346.html

Re: File system error massege

2001-09-04 Thread David Johnson

If you suspect a disk is full, first you need to determine which mount
point is full.

 From vt100 mode try the following

df -k /
df -k /usr
df -k /var
df -k /opt
df -k /tmp

If any of these are show 100% under the capacity, then that's the file
system with the problem. Start looking for the usual suspects like core
files, crash files, tar files, or log files that grow forever. Now start
drilling through the disk using the du command to find these really large
files, if they can safely be deleted, whack them.

Good luck,
David

RE: RAM

2001-09-04 Thread David Johnson

Chad,

I don't know Foxboro's official policy (if they have one), but, in my
experience, they have always been very reasonable on matters of things like
additional RAM, additional hard drives, etc. coming from a non-Foxboro
source. I wouldn't anticipate additional RAM causing any problems, but if
it does, you can take it out and be right back where you started.

Good Luck,
David

Re: File system error massege

2001-09-04 Thread Warren Brown

Hello

I guess the obvious answer is that the disk drive is full in one of
the partitions. Type df -kF ufs and see which is at 100%. My guess
would be the /var partition. If so, go to the /var/tmp directory
and see what is growing absurdly. Thats a start.

Disabling Return Receipt Notification in lotus Notes

2001-09-04 Thread Jeremy Milum

I have found an easy way to disable the Return Receipt Notifications
that we seem to be having problems with. This works for Lotus Notes 5:

1. Open the Create menu and choose Agent
2. Change the Name to "Disable Return Receipt Notification"
3. Change when should it run to "After new mail has arrived"
4. Click the "Add Action" button near the bottom
5. Choose "@Function Formula" in the Action box
6. Paste the text below into the box

FIELD ReturnReceipt:= ReturnReceipt;
FIELD Subject:= Subject;
@If(@IsAvailable(ReturnReceipt);
@If(ReturnReceipt = "1";
@Do(
@SetField("ReturnReceipt"; "0");
@SetField("Subject"; "** INFO: DISABLED \"Return Receipt\" ** " +
Subject)); ""); "");
SELECT @All

7. Hit Escape and select Save

Now whenever an email is received that requests a return receipt, the
subject will be
changed to include "** INFO: DISABLED "Return Receipt" ** "
at the start, and the return receipt will not be sent.

RE: RAM

2001-09-04 Thread Airhart, Chad M.

Re: RAM

The AW51B is a Sun SPARC 5. I am only aware of 32MB RAM (SIMMs or DIMMs
??) being available. You should consider 64MB to be the minimum, but 128MB
is recommended especially if you are running FoxView/FoxDraw.

RE: FoxView 99.2.1 trends

2001-09-04 Thread Lowell, Tim:

I did discover a way around the 5 step process of calling up an historical
trend that might be enlightening to someone, I'm not sure. I configured
buttons with the DM command "trend" on my existing trends. Trend lets you
draw a trend with many different attributes. The full command is:

trend [-g trendname] [-trdid n]
[-line # [-name c:b.p] [-descr "dd"] [-range r]
[-hist histname] [-gband g] [-minsp m]
[-name0 0] [-name1 1] [-delta d] [-eng e]
[-lcolor lc] [-marker m] [-dtype d]] [-scan "s u" | -dur "s u"]
[-start time | -stop time | -display "du su"]
[-banded | -merged] [-temp | -perm]
[-gcolor gc] [-bgcolor bc]
[-tstamp t] [-gvis gv] [-offnorm h,l]
[-offnrmcolor oc] [-numgrid nli] [-nummkrs nm]][-resol "t u"]

Which covers just about everything you can do with a trend. See B0193DF for
full details on this command.

We use mostly generic, re-useable trends, that get called up by clicking on
an AIN or PIDA value, which in turn passes the COMPOUND:BLOCK as DM shared
variables, such as $P3 and $P4. The dmcmd trend command can also use these
shared variables in the -name switch to draw a new trend line. So now when
the console guys call up our standard 1-hr trend, they have 4 buttons on the
bottom which can change the trend to 2, 4, 6, or 12 hour with one click.
Thanks, Foxboro, for getting me to look into this! Now it's much easier.
Of course, if the console guys want more choices than that, they have to go
through the whole 5 step procedure, or get me to make more buttons.

Some of our guys know about the left-click "Calendar" type interface, but
few use it because it is even more cumbersome than the existing 5 step
system. First of all, you have to Pause the trend to even get the
"Calendar", and it's kind of a mystery exactly where to click. This new
"button" system is nice because you can get a longer trend immediately, and
the buttons are very self-explanatory.

If anybody wants to see what I did, I'll post some files on Cassandra. I'm
not sure if dmcmd trend even works on DM though.

Tim

RE: Return Alarm

2001-09-04 Thread Grace, Kathy

First, no you cannot make the horn sound when an alarm returns to normal.

Second, when an unacknowledged alarm returns to normal it will show up on
the CAD as an unacknowledged RTN alarm. If you are using the default sort
of RAPT for your CAD, this alarm will show up below you unacknowledged,
active alarms. Once an alarm is both acknowledged and returns to normal it
is removed from the alarm database on the workstation and can no longer be
viewed on the CAD.
