FM 10 and font treatment
Hi-- My computer has Arial Black (True Type) in the Windows Font directory. When I open documents containing Arial Black I get the following message in the FrameMaker Console: "The Arial Black font is not available. Arial Black Heavy will be used in this session." I do not have Arial Black Heavy anywhere that I can see. Is there any reason why FrameMaker wants to substitute Arial Black Heavy when it is not on my computer? If I open the PDF, I see only Arial Black in the list of fonts. Upgrades to Acrobat 8 not working
Framers, When we install Acrobat on new or refurbished machines we do not have the ability to install Acrobat 8.1 through 8.1.7 without serious ramifications to Acrobat functionality. When this occurs, Acrobat does not allow us to enter values on the Initial View window on the File > Properties menu in Acrobat. It also does not allow us to save via the Advanced > PDF Optimizer window. Note that we are able to install up to version 8.0 with these Acrobat functions work properly, but we are concerned about the messages from Adobe describing security issues that require the additional upgrades. FW: Framemaker image problem
This post is from a colleague of mine. I have a growing problem with imported images into FrameMaker 7.2. I typically work off a network. A few months ago, I started getting an odd message when I'd try to save files with images that are imported objects. (These are files I've worked on for years.) Even if I didn't change the image but only, say, changed the footer information, I'd get the following message: "An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. " Our production manager looked at the files, copying them to her desktop, and had no problems. So I started working on those files on my desktop, and for a short time, the problem disappeared, only to come back worse than ever. Now, whenever I save a document into which I've inserted an image, I get this message. I've tried 'File>Import>File...Import by Reference,' File>Import>File...Copy into Document,' 'File>Import>Object...Create from File...Link,' and File>Import>Object...Create from File' (without a link). I've tried to import Canvas files (.cnv), Visio files (.vsd), plain .jpgs and plain .gifs, and always get the same result. Once this occurs, I have a file in the same path as my original file with a seemingly random 3-character extension after the .fm, such as 'CO4' or '357'. If I double-click the file and open with Frame, or if I delete the wonky extension, the file opens, but a grey box is displayed instead of the image. I'm on FrameMaker 7.2p158, with Window XP Professional Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236 : Service Pack 3). Our production manager found a previous post about Service Pack 3 of XP causing problems with imported images, but she is also on Service Pack 3 and is not having this problem. I am on digest. Please respond directly to the e-mail addresses so we may see your comments when you make them. Even if I didn't change the image but only, say, changed the footer information, I'd get the following message: "An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. Rick, Thanks for the discount. I forwarded your message to my manager. He was having some trouble getting the information he needed to make a decision so I am not sure how quick the response is going to be. I will keep you posted. URL does not work
Hi-- I created a hypertext marker from the command "Go to URL" in FrameMaker 7.2 p158 and created a PDF using Acrobat 8.1.1. When I click on the active area in the PDF in Acrobat 8.1.1, it went to the URL I selected. When I tried to click on the Active area with the PDF in Acrobat 7.0.9, Acrobat started to attempt to download something. Do you know why a hot link for a URL would behave differently in Acrobat 8.1.1 vs. 7.0.9 if I created it in A8.1.1?
